I'm going on a limb to say that Bill Simmons' next stop of employment will not be the NFL network.

Putting on my Conspiracy Bill hat... Skipper asked Dan Patrick to get him on the air to talk about the Wells Report knowing full well that Bill would say something to sleight Roger Goodell giving him the perfect out to not renew his contract.
@222333aaaaaa9 жыл бұрын
Why would Dan do anything for Skipper and ESPN. Moreover, why would ESPN trust DP w something like that?
@SteaksauceandRob9 жыл бұрын
Classic ESPN. It's a PC paradise. If you go after the NFL or LeBron James, they will either suspend you or fire you. They have become as full of shit as any other network. I watched an episode of Sportscenter for the first time in a while the other night, they showed maybe 10 minutes of highlights. The entire show was promoting Madden. It was ridiculous.
@michaelchiorello1479 жыл бұрын
You think Sage Steele is excited Bill Simmons is no longer at ESPN? If she tried to write a book about basketball similar to Simmons' encyclopedia, hers would probably turn in to a children's picture book. Simmons was getting too big for ESPN, which is more interested in hiring people more in tune with gossip and meaningless twitter sh@t talk than they are about sports and sports history. Good luck wherever you may land, BS.

If this innocuous interview was "the last straw" that got him fired, it's for the best that Simmons will be moving on to a place that isn't ESPN.

Not for him. No way he makes anywhere close to 5 mil next yr, and he pbly just lost all his best writers at Grantland

And so that's why ESPN fired Bill Simmons. And by "fired", I mean continued to employ through his current contract. And by "why", I don't at all mean why, because this interview had nothing to do with it, and was instead based on difficult negotiations and likely greatly increasing demands on Simmons' part to make up for ESPN's actions toward him last year.

Bill Simmons is insufferable. It is painful how he says Brady won him the SB, as if he is on the team. Suspend Brady 1/2 the season and be done with it. The text messages imply he was involved with something shady.
@turtle423879 жыл бұрын
Ali Hasan So you are saying that taking a little air out of a football is worse than taking steroids and beating a wife?
@turtle423879 жыл бұрын
Ali Hasan And I read the text messages, don't see anything wrong with it. I know a guy who is the equipment guy for the Ravens. He told me a couple years ago that the players give him money/tips and memorabilia all the time to sell because the team pays him about $10 a day. And the "deflator" text, that was back in May of last year, so I don't understand how the text messages imply he was involved.
@ruscopcoltrain9 жыл бұрын
Ali Hasan I'm not even a Patriots fan, but you do realize the punishment for using PEDs is 4 games right? You're saying deflating some balls is worth a harsher punishment than juicing?
@JoshS249 жыл бұрын
ruscopcoltrain definition of an uninformed, emotional response. Like they said, its how the NFL is reacting to these things. The more uninformed and emotional people are, the greater the punishment can be without justification.

Funny how Bill Simmons never got mad at Godell for destroying spygate evidence or asked what was the need for destroying it. He was happy to buy the company line when it suited his team. You happily benefited from this so Godell isnt the only Hypocrite.

@TheBigwheels119 жыл бұрын
The only thing more dumb than Simmins not getting his contract renewed by espn is the whole "deflateglate" in general. Im a Dolphins fan, and i still sm amazed in why this is a story. I still say that if footballs were inflated to 12.5 psi and LeGarrett Blount fell on them a few times, some air is bound to come out. Some of the footballs were 1 and 2% below spec. 1 football was in range. If they were all deflated, then why wasnt that one? Such a crazy punishment for a nothing 'crime". Lastly, Simmons, who i dont always agree with, is 100% right.....Goodell waited to hear public opinion before he handed ouy ridiculous penalties. Teams have circumvented the salary cap and got less. The same Indinapolis Colts pumped in fake crowd noise in 2006 AFC championship game (In which they came back to beat NE).,..what is worse? This is a.sham....there must be something we havent been told,

The point is, if it's not a big deal - then why does Brady (or his crew) do it, then? Because Brady feels it's an advantage. When all is said and done, Brady played better with the normal pressured balls - so, Brady is the moronic one here -- not the media. The cover up/lying was worse than the crime itself... and that's what got Brady in the most trouble. You (especially being the face of the NFL) do NOT do something that is shady and not suffer any consequence. I think many black NFL players would have caused an uproar if Brady/Patriots did not get punished -- that too played in the decision; Goodell probably felt he had no choice but to suspend him.

@turtle423879 жыл бұрын
hassan74ish Of course he is a homer, and he admits it. You are a homer for your team as well, as I am a homer for my team. I am a Steelers fan and Big Ben got suspended I was pissed bc he wasn't charged. Now do I think he did something, of course, but nobody could prove it. That is why I am in Brady's camp, at the end of the report it says, "we don't have clear or definitive proof anybody did anything." And read up on how the lawyers used all were the same lawyers that represented the NFL in the concussion lawsuit and lied, and the company used Exponent has come up with other conclusions as "smoking doesn't cause cancer," "dumping toxins into the amazon isn't bad."
@constipatedlecher9 жыл бұрын
Simmons, I'm disappointed in you. In all likelihood, Brady did nothing wrong. Read the damn report, people.
@dougmaclennan86549 жыл бұрын
Wow. Simmons couldn't be more verifiably and painfully wrong about everything. There was no sting. The Wells Report took so long to come out because the Pats lawyered-up to the hilt and the NFL wanted to wait til after the Draft to avoid draft pick penalty issues in 2015. A "needle" was mentioned repeatedly in the texts so Simmons suggestion that the Pats did other things to deflate the balls a little is absurd. Also, Adam Silver gets cheered for one simple reason -- he piled on Donald Sterling.
