Crazy to say but I feel Jokic is reaching yet another level this year. His confidence levels are sky high and I've never seen him this focused this early. It's an eye test thing but it's clear he now knows he's better than everybody else and can completely control games. He's utterly unbothered by anyone or anything. I've seen that kind of transformation a number of times in the past, most notably with Jordan around 1990. It's mastery of the game combined with mastery of the mind.

Stats are far more important than the eye test, because the shots and plays that are visually appealing are low percentage (for example, crazy step back 3s, like the one Jokic hit over AD during the playoffs). But Jokic's stats are better than ever.
@williamturner945011 ай бұрын
You know what's crazy-- Embiid has actually been better this year. I'm a die-hard Sixers fan, been following the team for years & stuck with them through the process and everything, and even for me it was hard to feel like Embiid deserved the MVP this past year. If anything, it felt like he shoulda gotten it the year before, but in the back of my head (and the minds of many other Sixers fans) it really did feel like he was kinda gifted the award. Anywho, fast forward to now, and for the start of the season, its been Embiid who's the best - not just by the eye test, but in terms of stats too. Nick Nurse's new system has him initiating a lot more plays (dare I say its almost a Jokic style of offense), and its unlocked a whole new level. He had already put up above-average assist numbers for a center (around 4-4.5), but this years he's averaging more than 6, which isn't far off of Jokic's 8 (league leading for a center). Additionally, Embiid's overall efficiency has gone up due to the new playstyle, and he's actually been significantly better than Jokic from range this year. When you factor in that he plays all-nba level defense (which Jokic doesn't), its clear that he's the #1 to start the season. It was a rough start in Milwaukee but since then he's been incredible. Even looking at PER (Player Efficiency Rating), which is the metric stat that's supposed to sum a players total skill into one number - Jokic supporters usually reference this because Nikola is usually number 1, but Embiid clears him this year. I say this because you said Jokic 'knows hes better than everybody else', so I figured I'd say that its maybe not quite everybody. Can't wait to see another match up between them, and a Nuggets v Sixers finals would be a dream to see these two generational bigs battle it out.
@drink_with_the_dead11 ай бұрын
@williamturner9450 Embiid doesn't touch Jokic. Not.close. in crunch time I'm the playoffs we know who will show up and who will crumble. We've seen Embiid collapse in so many ways when the heat is on. I don't want to hear anything about him until he shows out when it matters

I feel like a secret to Jokic's success is he doesn't really care. Gets dunked on. Doesn't care. Morale is unaffected. Misses a shot. Doesn't care. Turnover? Not worried. He wants to get better and do is job but if it works he doesn't really care how you feel about it. He just wants to get back to his wife and kids in his own country. Luka has also had better rookie numbers than Lebron in his rookie year. Luka also averaged 8 rebounds per game, which was amazing for a pointguard. Luka was also the main force and engine of the entire Dallas offense from the very beginning of his Nba career in his first year (and not only regarding his scoring responsibilities, but especialy regarding his playmaking responsibilities. Luka was basicaly setting up the ENTIRE offense for the WHOLE Dallas team already as a 19 year old teenager in his first Nba year in his big role as a MAIN pointguard and playmaker for his team in Dallas. I would argue, that there are 3 main categories in basketball: SCORING, DEFENSE and PLAYMAKING. And Luka has certainly been extremely masterful at TWO of the three mentioned, namely at SCORING and at PLAYMAKING. And this has been the case since the day ONE in his first year in the NBA. But think if they keep the roster together they could easily get a top 6 seed. Have had the strongest schedule in the NBA and are 4-4. And have beaten 3 teams that only have 2 losses on the season. While the schedule makers have dicked them over twice having them play a rested 76ers team who had 1 and 2 days rest where Toronto was having to play them on the 2nd night of a back to back with travel between both games. Lakers are just doomed to fall to attrition before the playoffs even start. Either play their stars into the ground or miss the playoffs. Rock and a hard place.

Embiid has a streak of that entitled diva in him. He’s obviously dominant, but does he have what it takes to really consistently carry his team to important wins? He’s yet to prove that and you still get the sense that he sulks when his team isn’t playing at their best. Meanwhile maxey has just elevated into the stratosphere with a tenth of the physical gifts that embiid has.

I dont get jokic fans giannis has more accolades than jokic and also he has a defensive player of the year which matters lol.Yes jokic is more skilled and is a better passer but giannis also is a great passer and scores more points and defends way better and has to carry his team more than jokic does.Jokic no doubt is an all time great player and the way he plays is amazing i just dont understand why alot of denver fans say hes a better overall player than giannis ,i just dont see it.Its normal tho i guess whn you have two all time greats like this there will always be knitpicking from both sides.For me giannis has been the best overall player in the nba offense and defence since 2020.

GSW are overrated, they could easily be 2-6 with the amount of close games they had, don't look good at all if Curry is not dropping 35+ nobody can score on that team and they are small.

Houston should flip Sengun ASAP as his value will never be higher. Sengun is a talented player but he's similar to Sabonis in a negative way. Both guys are talented but in order to maximize their value their teams need to play a specific way. Namely 90s style inside out which comes with a hard and fast ceiling. Flip Sengun and get a nice asset then get a big who can at least add some value defensively. Speaking of flipping guys I think Giddey could wind up getting moved sooner rather than later. Giddey and Shai the two primary ball handlers are both sub par 3 point shooters. That's an issue and there's no guarantee he'll improve. Presti is one of the smartest roster builders in the league and more likely to be proactive. I really like Giddey but he may add more value to a different kind of roster.

Good point but I think they are waiting to see if he can develop some type of jump shot because if he does teams will not be able to defend him like Sabonis. He will be great if he has a respectable shot form midrange

Rockets fan here. Call me crazy but Sengun is arguably better than Sabonis now. And he’s only 21. It’d be a crime against humanity to trade him so quickly.
@Bewbscueser11 ай бұрын
@@trumpetking11 Sengun is really good. My thought is more that his skill set requires a commitment to a kind of play style that might limit the Rockets overall ceiling. Since the Rockets are very much a work in progress your point is a good one. Maybe Sengun can build out his game to be more adaptable. Maybe he just continues to improve driving up his value. At this point there really isn't an impetus to figure out exactly how he fits into the overall picture. I do think at some point Houston will need to make a choice based on how he drives their ceiling. If I were part of making that choice I would definitely take into account both his play style and the kind of return he could bring.

There is an easy fix to make All Star game interesting. Make it USA vs Rest of the world. Or even USA vs Europe. It will make the players actually try hard in the game as you are now representing your country/continent and thus won't take the game that easy.

Honestly wouldn't be shocked if Toronto actually ends up as a top 6 team in the east at the end of the year. They have had the toughest schedule in the NBA. And 3 of their 4 wins have come against 3 of the top teams so far this season in the Wolves, Bucks and Mavs. Yea they also lost to Bulls and Blazers. But think that was just early season struggles of trying to learn a new system and also Darko not knowing who to play off of the bench. Since he's stopped playing McDaniels and has gotten Otto back the Raptors are 3-0 honestly 3-1 but the loss was the 2nd night of a back to back against the 76ers where they didn't want to risk playing Otto on back to back nights just coming back from his injuries.
