It’s gunna be a crazy off season. New CBA is a nightmare. Lots of teams think they are one player away so they will be aggressive. Teams going to have to develop rosters with true centres as Jokic, Embiid and now Wemby change the league. Bob Meyers has always been ahead of the curve and his move was to QUIT.

Got to wonder what stars who have already had their huge pay days will make a super team where they "only" take 35M a year. With this new hard cap...I mean, "second apron", there's _got_ to be three stars out there who would sacrifice a bit of money to win a title or two.
@greyklopstock7155
@greyklopstock7155 Жыл бұрын
As a warriors fan, I never thought of that in terms of the Myers situation. Honestly, thinking about it, that sounds like a phenomenal take. Bob knew he was in a zero sum game, and his answer was to cash out before he was forced to lose. He'd rather spend more time with his family than be forced to fuck up something he built just cause the new cba is making him. I think this new CBA might end up either screwing teams out of the talent they developed, or screwing players out of the money they've rightfully earned. Neither of those are good things. Guys are basically going to be forced to take pay cuts if they want to win, and if they want to get paid what they are worth, they'll have to go play for a perennial loser and be literally the only good player on the team to get the money.

Hawks for sure would be by underrated pick 1. Reduced number of assets/picks 2. DJ Murray invetably going to test free agency 3. Salary cap is eaten up basically by Trae / Capella / Collins / Hunter 4. Need to resign Okongwu and Bey to extensions in a couple years too 5. In a basically win now mode but really awful season by thei standards 6. Trae is allegedy a very difficult pesonality fo teammates / coach 7. I dont think the owner has ever paid the luxury tax - thats a big question to answer Luckily they got an elite coach but itll be intersting to see how they manuevere.

I'm not sure why the hesitation in the Mavs GM job being tough. No big names voluntarily want to play there for a set of reasons and the culture of the front office has not been fixed even after a few very public cases. They've also backed themselves into a hole by poor evaluation of Brunson and a bench thinning Kyrie trade.

I’m honestly much higher on the team than I was to start the year, the only thing you can do after a bad trade is to move on. Like you said KAT is a massive asset that they’ll be able to capitalize on, he gets a lot of grief for things he may not be great at but man he is still a very special player in my mind, one that somebody would certainly pay a nice price to obtain yet. Honestly I was hoping you would pick Golden State the entire time. You may think what the fuck are you talking about, they have Steph, Klay, Draymond, Wiggins, they fought a good series against the Lakers. But the wheels are coming off, slowly, but the screws are turning in the wrong direction. You are in salary cap hell with the Jordan Poole extension plus the ruined chemestry between at least two teammates. You just lost your priced GM who also had a special relationship with Draymond, who is on record saying it WILL impact his contract extension talks in a significant way who is not on the Steph Curry/Tim Duncan levels on keeping team chemestry afloat and staying silent the whole time. Did I mention the Poole extension? Yeah, good luck attaching draft picks just for trading this contract if he doesnt improve. You have an ageing core who is kinda injury prone, you are deep into the luxury tax with the new CBA rules kicking in, you have chemestry issues at least lingering and the owner talking about promoting his son to a significant role (when did that strategy ever fail?). Forgive the bad movie anology but this feels like the cliff in "Thelma and Louise" where Bob Myers got out of the car, seats you behind the wheel, gives you a pat on the back and tells you "the future is right ahead son, keep driving". Don´t ask why he had to put a cinder block on the gas pedal (JP 130 mio contract) though.

Such unbelievably lazy takes on the wolves. Simmons literally gives him one of many potential answers and ryen just defaults into why he doesn’t like kat. Great most of us don’t! But that’s one reason why you make a gobert deal. It’s staring them right in the face and they refuse to see it. Win now? Trade for dame. Jaylen want out? Send him to Boston. Want picks back? Oh...& Mack Jones is clearly the best qb in the nfl today-if not ever. And did you guys catch the Wolves run this spring to "play in immortality?" Musta missed it...so did the rest of us. And why are Minnesota sports fans so bitter,& act deprived or cursed-when they have the most impressive run in NBA history? Nevermind KAT has never won a playoff series....this is like 1950-when the NIT was a bigger deal to win than the Final 4 dont ya know. And pay no attention to the fact KAT has been bad in over half his career playoff games & his playoff "resume" makes Embied look like Bill Russel. Imagine-Jimmy said KAT was soft as charmin.

You wouldn't do Lamelo for Brown if you're the Celtics? And you don't see how scoot could work with Lamelo? What are we doing here I mean I get the charlotte hate given the team rep/ownership situation. But from a basketball perspective you have Lamelo, a top 1% reader of the game, with scoring upside(Fixable defense), and 21 years old. Vs. Brown who despite having a solid bag of tricks has a weak handle, an inability to go left, some off ball defense issues, and I don't see much if any playmaking upside. Not to mention if your Boston you gotta hand over 300 mil. I understand the issues with Lamelo's game but the organization has been a mess and these issues don't project as unfixable. Brown has been in a great organization with good coaching for 7 years! And he still has the weakest handle of a 20PPG guard I've seen in a long time! On the Scoot-Lamelo side of things, Lamelo has shown some creativity off ball, not to mention he's an unreal advantage playmaker. Scoot projects also as an advanced playmaker. I mean having both Scoot and Lamelo on the floor with rotating defenses is a recipe for great looks. Do we need defensive buy in everywhere sure. But the worst gm job out there? And you would easily trade Lamelo for Jaylen Brown. Did we all not just watch the nuggets win based on their ridiculous movement passing based offense and smart defensive coaching adjustments to hide weaknesses?

for me it would be either Memphis or Twolves. if a team is bad or coming up short, you can makes moves to do something about it. what do you do when the entire culture of the organization and players, especially your best players, are immature and soft but the players are also extremely young and talented? the thought of being the GM and having to think about trading Ja or KAT could be a career ending move for a young GM like MN and Memphis has.

Really surprised no one mentioned the hawks. In my opinion the hawks are in a much much worse spot than the pelicans. Also, as a knicks fan, I think we have to be in the consideration. I know we should be excited about the recent playoff run and having a guy like Brunson, but the team is really stuck in no mans land. What do you do with randle? Will rj barrett really take a huge jump, or continue to be a good, not great player? What about having a horrible owner? I get the appeal of having a good fanbase and being in New York, but the past few decades have shown that the supposed incentives of being in New York doesn’t really translate in landing stars in free agency/trades, except for melo. Yes Brunson is a great player, we have some decent young talent, but the roster is still pretty far from being able to realistically compete
@haydennyagah706
@haydennyagah706 Жыл бұрын
I think they missed two sleeper picks. I know they take more into account than just the roster but something about Philly and Milwaukee seems very volatile to me. For Philly, if Harden leaves, what do you do with Embiid? If no superstar becomes available, how do they replace Harden and get another star next to Embiid. Or do you just trade Embiid altogether and rebuild around Maxey? And then they have to figure out what to do with Tobias Harris as well as also pay Maxey, which isn't too bad, but it'll be a lot worse if they also resign Harden, they'll have little to no money left to reshape the roster. For Milwaukee, it's just simply the fact that they have the oldest roster in the league by far. They have good talent, but eventually age is going to catch up to guys like Lopez, Holiday, and Middleton, and then how do they retool the roster around Giannis to still compete? I wouldn't want to be put in either situation

Yeah they’re fine for right now but as a Pacers fan, they need Mathurin or the guy they draft this year to really turn into a GUY or they could end up in 7-8 seed purgatory every year. Haliburton alone raises the floor of the team but just to be competitive in the league now, you need at least 2 All Star/All NBA level guys or a bonafide top 5 player and good pieces around him.

It would be hard to replace the Harden asset for Philly. That hollow, scared, please-don't-make-me-shoot-it face is hard to find. Who else can turn the ball over in the playoffs like he doesn't care AND not play any defense? Shrinkage like that is premium. George Costanza maybe?

The Bulls are such a dumpster fire right now. No picks, a couple of guys who would be just fine as a number 3 or number 4 guy on your team, but can't be THE guy, and of course the cement shoes that really sink us to the bottom of Lake Michigan - that miser Reinsdorf. At this point, he's perfectly content to put a mediocre product on the floor year-in and year-out, compete for the play-in spots and do just enough for this team to be good enough to keep a few butts in the seats. Luck has been in short supply (see the Lonzo injury madness and bad lottery luck), but you can't blame it all on that.

I think the Miami Heat is an underrated horrible GM job... I know the owner cares about winning and competing every year, so that's great. But when I think about the top talent on that team, their assets, it's really underwhelming (if I'm thinking about next year). Jimmy will decline. Lowry has already declined. Herro seems over paid. Their undrafted diamonds in the rough have played well enough to get bigger contracts in the future (but will likely all be over paid). They'll have a bunch of Duncan Robinson contract-type problems. And I know Duncan is playing well now - but it feels like a team built around a bunch of mid level talent. And Bam as their top young talent seems to have hit his ceiling. He's very good, but clearly not a number 1 guy. I'm not saying I don't like the team - I root for these guys. But I think it's an enormously challenging GM problem waiting to happen. I think there's a thin line between them and what the Bulls are now (old top talent - no young prospects who you feel comfortable paying a max contract).
@gators9570
@gators9570 Жыл бұрын
Bam arguably has 2-3 seasons of offensive growth still. Herro is an alright piece with trade value if something comes available. Butler is under contract for a few more seasons so they just have to hope he can maintain all star form. Gabe will be retained and molded into the starting point guard. Duncan is more likely to continue on as a good shooter than not, so he’s at least playable, which is huge. Martin is actually on a steal of a contract for 2 more seasons, so that helps them tread water. Lowrys final year is a huge help with them being able to add a decent role player. And they have Jovic in the back pocket for next season. I think next season they’ll have a better regular season and finish top 4 seeds, though they might not make the conference finals. However, this run they went on has done huge things for the front office. Free agents that would have laughed at joining the heat might be swayed now being able to play under Spo and with Jimmy

We had 4 1sts in ‘21, 3 1sts in ‘22 and have 2 1sts this year. And while OKC has the rights to our ‘24 and ‘26 1sts (top 4 protected) and swap rights on our ‘25 1st (top 10 protected), we do at least have BKN’s ‘24 and ‘26 1sts unprotected. Even if we end up sending our 1sts to OKC, at the very least we should be a playoff team by ‘26. We have the most cap space in the league and after adding one of Scoot, Miller or Amen at #4 a very solid core of Sengun, Green, #4, Tari, Bari. New coach, tons of cap space, young core. That’s far from a bad place to be as a team

@@ahsahm3996 you lost me at getting Miller or Scoot at #4, that’s 100% not happening. Ur stuck with Amen and a bad Harden contract without being able to keep your own 1st next year or in 26 without lottery luck (thanks Westbrook)
@ahsahm3996
@ahsahm3996 Жыл бұрын
@Fret Collector Amen at 4 is definitely the most likely scenario but there’s a world where Miller goes 4 after Scoot goes 2 and Amen 3. Especially if the Blazers move Dame this summer, which based on every time he opens his mouth about wanting to contend or “he wouldn’t be against a trade” type of comments, the team could definitely just decide to pull the trigger on Dame since 1) he’s clearly not happy in Portland and 2) they probably realize the roster around him isn’t good enough to win a championship. If they bite the bullet and decide to rebuild, Amen who thoroughly impressed the Blazers at his workout, probably goes 3 and Miller 4. You’re right about Scoot not falling to 4, that would legitimately take a miracle. My point was really just whichever guy in that tier is left at 4 is still a great addition to the young core. As far as stuck w/ Amen, a top percentile athlete (elite burst, ~44 inch vert.), w/ defensive potential, +size, rim pressure and the chance to the best playmaker from the class, sign me up. He needs to improve his shot but Ben Sullivan who the Rockets recently hired to Ime’s staff, should help him there. Bad Harden contract, that’s yet to happen lol. Reportedly he wants a max and that doesn’t appear to be his market rn. And it was interesting that Stone was recently asked about players that the team might target and he basically said they have to match what Ime’s vision for the team is. Don’t get me wrong, we could give Harden a bad contract but I think it’s just as likely that he either re-ups in Philly or we get him on maybe a high AAV 2 + TO. And yeah the WB trade was shit, but we’ll be a playoff team by ‘26 and hopefully at least pushing for a play-in spot next year. And if not, the rebuild failed. But from a talent acquisition perspective the team is certainly getting more talented. They finally have a competent coach after 3 years of Silas and have the cap flexibility to add Reaves/Cam, Plumlee/Reid, a shooter like Seth Curry for the bench and Beverly as a culture guy, to supplement this young team.
