my Dad after 7 DUIs 35 years ago went to 30 days rehab and AA. Because of AA he is 35 years no alcohol. he is loved by family and friends. He got a letter last week congratulating him on getting an 850 on his credit score. ha ha. but so awesome God is the way. I was a heavy drinker since 16 and at 42 after multiple DUIs and alcohol contribution to 9 of the 10 worst days of my life I was facing a dead end. This was 10 years ago I had an experience of the nature Bill W speaks. At that moment when I was at the end of my road, the very end, I asked Jesus for help. In the next moments was shown a view of God's grace. Where everything made sense. I was released. From that moment I have had zero temptation to drink alcohol. Seek your Lord your Creator. He exists.

AA offers a 12 step programme as Blue print for recovery, no one is forced to stay, pray or pay in AA, go, get recovery and make your own choices.. It saved my life, my life is a life of experience and some mistakes (as some might judge) and hopefully there's more to come. I drank myself into a coma pre AA. I haven't drank since starting regular meetings 4 years ago. My experience is AA WORKS. Good luck, good experience, hope and strength to all seeking recovery.

Why does everyone insult AA so bad? You take what you want and leave the rest! Thats important! If Bill, Bob, and Silkworth didn't even shed light on the plight of alcoholism and trying to get better, then who would? They had the balls to try to help themselves and everyone else. You don't have to like everything they say but they honestly and truly did want to help others and that should be admired.

man how old are you just curious, there are people that drink everyday or don't your not that special that you don't drink. Also people there have a lot of mental issues. When you have people with mental issues telling people what to do thats not good, they go no credentials to be doing so, thats cult like behavior. Yea its a great program but a lot of shit to work on in that group for sure, human being anonymous based soully on humans working to have a better life would be a much more meaningful program, for the world.

Yep, Bill W. was a deeply flawed individual. Some would call him a sex addict. He also suffered from clinical depression. However, he and others founded a worldwide fellowship that depends on alcoholics helping each other. The program works because of the Big Book and the instructions it contains. In the early days, AA people genuinely "carried the message", and worked closely to help others recover from alcoholism

There are people whom are cultish, that unfortunately is human nature, not an AA exception or rule. As I stated previously, you either will or you won't continue to drink. Wasting your time arguing about the AA/cult thing is no matter to me. You either want to drink yourself to an early grave or you want to live out your life and function like a "normal" human being. It is a clear choice to me and for me. Since I stopped drinking, worked the steps and reached out and work(ed) with other alcoholics, my life has improved tremendously. My family, including my parish life and work life are the best it has ever been. So, either you want to live or you you want to die early. I take the former of the two. Peace and this Gorgeous Easter Morning to all of you.

Yeah but what about when it's being forced down your throat when you've made it abundantly clear it's not for you? And also, just because people don't like it doesn't mean they will relapse without it. I haven't been to a meeting in years and there's beer in the outside fridge all the time and i never even think about it. How is that powerless. Wilson also wanted lsd incorporated into the program for the worst of the worst. Now if that was the first step maybe the success rate would be better cause now their starting to use mushrooms and ecstasy for PTSD and depression.

At the end of the day, Andrew, you do or do not want to stay sober. Whatever works. I am secretary of a group and anyone is welcome to come and stay or share if they wish. They do not have to put money in the basket and they are free to leave. So, what is the problem?
@TheHappys9 жыл бұрын
rick p the problem is that the program is unrealistic its leads people to guilt and shame and weird beliefs themselves a specific group of people it teaches people that if you have one drink that your doomed leading people to indulge in drinking way more or feeling overwhelming guilt driving people insane, and bad people can be part of it or people spewing information that isn't true, and leading people that might not be alcoholics into worst places.

I am re-engaged with my beautiful wife and daughter and volunteering each month at the detox ward of the local hospital. My point is I put my selfishness aside and because of the program, a program of attraction and not forced on me in any way but offered as a choice, I have become a better man and a more productive citizen. I am going on three years 1 day at a time. I hope all is well, Nick.
