Coronation chicken was invented for Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1952. We still had rationing there, so this was about the most exotic thing that could be made with the ingredients available - chicken, mayo (eggs), curry powder and sultanas. We had so much curry powder that we began airlifting it to West Berlin during the blockade. The Germans invented a new dish using it - Currywurst (A sausage with curry sauce sprinkled with curry powder).

So fun! My Mum was a Brit and since she’s been gone, all of us, girls in the family, go to a yearly tea near Mother’s Day. This one looked amazing, and I would love all of the shops. When we were little, our mom would bring us all the cute tins of candies and cookies from there when she would visit. And Lisa, your necklace is so pretty!

OMG! This is such a timely video. We're planning a trip to Europe next spring, and Harrods tea room is on the agenda, thanks to your video. You had us at "vegsn tea"!. Now we'll have to drop into F&M too. Our friend is expecting a baby a couple of months before we arrive and that Sparkling Tea sounds like just the right kind of bubbly for a new Mama. I love F&M! We bought the jar of honey with a piece of honeycomb in it as a souvenir b/c my husband loves honey. He enjoyed it! Apparently their honey is gathered from the bee hives on top of the Piccadilly store! I love to check out the discounted items (same at Harrods where one time I bought bags of chocolate for friends). Hello from S. Cal (Torrance Beach is my favorite beach btw). =)

Fortnum & Mason used to provide a lot of food for the Queen. They were her favourite brand for a lot of her food/tea. If you can, try the Ritz for the ultimate afternoon tea. It’s fabulous. But there is a strict dress code.

Bill and Lisa - we love love, love, love your videos and as we are in Orange County we get to try your foodie recommendations. We just got back from a week in London ourselves (also went on Virgin Atlantic) and went to Fortnum and Mason but just to shop for tea and cookies. I did buy jam but I had to leave it behind as it was not TSA-compliant for our carry-on. Wish I had seen this video before we went. LOL.

fortnums --- was the queens grocery store oddly /// never saw her in person - with a handbag and trolley but BP do get food supplies there.... guess its the kings grocers store now -- even not shopping worth a visit not cheap but its the fun experience .... my fav the cheesy organic oat biscuits for cheese and wine ... soft tasty buttery melt in your mouth with some wine and cheese yummy ... William Fortnum was a footman in the household of Queen Anne. The royal family's insistence on having new candles every night resulted in large amounts of half-used wax, which Fortnum promptly resold. Fortnum also had a side business as a grocer. He convinced his landlord, Hugh Mason, to be his associate, and they founded the first Fortnum & Mason store in Mason's small shop at St James's Market in 1707. In 1761 - st james has various royal residences - close to BP and fortnums .. William Fortnum's grandson Charles went into the service of Queen Charlotte, and the connection with the royal court led to an increase in business. Fortnum & Mason claims to have invented the Scotch egg, in 1738.[5][6] The store began to stock speciality items, namely ready-to-eat luxury meals such as poultry or game served in aspic jelly.[7] nice vid ---- well done ... /// seem like a nice couple unpretentious good for them .....

I really enjoyed this! I've been watching a few Afternoon Teas on you tube and came across yours. Well done - you offered a lot more in your review than others in terms of how you describe taste of products. Reviews of the F&M afternoon tea by others were good but you really described the experience and I like your camera angles! I don't know if it was luck for the time you were there, but the background noise during your stay was great, in videos made by others it is noisy. Usually videos have a lot of distracting background noises in all London locations because it is always a full house and there is chatting and live music. Your table didn't seem cramped by other tables either. I've just subscribed and will check out your others, especially the Harrods one you mention.
