The Brunch looked good, but I was even more impressed by the Bakery. They have such a wide variety of bakery items that I have never tried, and I don't think I can find in Hawaii all in one place. They still use their signature Kings Hawaiian bread (round loaf) to make the french toast. That's the way I like em. After they moved their bakery to the mainland, the round loaf was getting harder to find in Hawaii probably due to logistics and would make it easier to find on the mainland if you like catch the plane. Either that or I was an hour late at the store.

Our family regularly used to eat at Kingʻs Bakery on King St. in Hawaiʻi since I was a child, and the bakery was the go-to place for cakes and pastries for parties or visiting friends and family. (I still remember the dobash cake!) My sister was friends with the owners, the Taira family, and she told us how the father and founder, Robert Taira, resisted changing to mass-produced sweet bread (the original round sweet bread in the tin made in the family bakery did taste even better), but in the late 1970s, the family restaurant/bakery was not doing well (Zippyʻs was big competition), so he finally gave in to his children, expanded the business with mass-production, and moved to Torrance where they built a huge bakery and became hugely successful with Kingʻs Hawaiian Rolls. He just passed away in 2023. You can tell the family kept the restaurant very true to their roots by all the "Local" Hawaiʻi types of food served there. I wish they would reopen a Kingʻs restaurant/bakery in Hawaiʻi and expand like Liliha Bakery. All the food at the Buffet would definitely do well in Hawaiʻi again, but I guess the children are too comfortable in Torrance with their highly successful business on the continent to risk opening a new restaurant in Hawaiʻi.

When I was going to college in Hawaii many moons ago, kings Hawaiian bread in the tin was all I could afford to eat. My father stole my college savings for food but I enjoyed the bread. Great product.

Looks amazing but I want to stay fit and I have no self restraint. I over ate once in Vegas and did not eat for four days I was that full. I had some sad apples and peanut butter for dinner while watching (tiss thecseason to diet)! I am going to drop in there next time I am by LAX. The coconut bread is something I need try. I un nightly so I can eat one carb every other day!
