Oxtail soup is a very popular, Hawaiian/Japanese dish. It is a specialty served at the California Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. The Cal is popular with Hawaiians because Sam Boyd would always run specials for Hawaiian residents to come over to his hotel. Also, it is Napa cabbage in the soup. I haven't been to this restaurant since the 90's, but the popular dish used to be the Saimin. Forgot to mention that you shouldn't expect a whole lot of seasoning in Hawaiian and Japanese food because they are not into spicy flavors like cajun or thai (southeast Asian country) dishes. It would be the equivalent of eating sushi (sashimi or nigiri) with just fish and rice. Real sushi chefs will get mad at you if you use soy sause and wassabi because they want you to taste the flavor of the fish.
