I feel the same as you do.....but don't count on the next generation of spoiled fucking brats to give a shit about anything of value. They couldn't get their faces out of the cell phone to avoid a bus running them down.

I listen to Puccini, Wagner, Vivaldi, Beethoven, et al. Then I listen to Dan. I love him and those hot licks. I cry as I listen to the heavenly beauty of opera, then I smile so hard my face almost cracks as I watch these magnificent performers fill my heart with the joy of life.

And what's the prize of musicians who know their instruments and play with both skill and intuition? It's prizeless... It's art! I'll forever love Dan Hicks, and always regard in high value of professionals who played with him. You've given me unforgettable travels in musical dimension of existance. Thank You.

True story. It was 1992. I was in my senior year in college. I went over to my old roommate's apartment in Boston. We were hanging out drinking, and just smoked a bong. He left the room, so I'm sitting there by myself. I was flipping channels on TV and saw Austin City Limits was on. I had never heard of Dan Hicks. This was on, so I started watching it. I was completely blown away. In all transparency, I was a huge Tom Waits fan, so this this type of quirky Americana was not totally new to me. However, I was transported to another time and another place. After 10 mins, my roommate came back and I said, "I just saw the most fucking amazing thing ever on TV..."

Dan Hicks and the coolest band ever, the Hot Licks, I loved this music and was destroyed when i learned he had left us. He had to be one of the coolest men in music. He will live on in his music, like so many others, we are so lucky to have quality recordings of their genius.

Saw him on Johnny Carson mid to late sixties…opened my eyes up to cool folky music…always imagined the girl serving up the ice cream, fell in love with her. I was about 10 or 12 then.

I went to Flagstaff Arizona when I was ateen to spend the summer with my sister in a hippy house they rented, and her roommate Gerbert always played this guy.And I thought him corny till I listened to him after drinking some peyote tea.

A class act. In the Charlatans in the late 60s but got real good when he formed this real cool retro sound. I saw him at small club in San Mateo in 1971. Intimate and great show
