Sabrina with two songs in the Top 3 is absolutely fantastic, and she’s currently on course for her first #1 hit with ‘Please Please Please’ next week. Never would’ve expected this at the beginning of the year! ❤

GURLL..... If yall had told me at the beginning of this year that the #1s consisted of songs from Hozier, Teddy Swims, a song where the most popular rapper of our generation gets called out for being a nonce, and a song from SABRINA CARPENTER, I would have called you crazy, but I'm certainly not gonna complain in the slightest bit!

Hopefully, but it's going to be really hard. The radio now loves Morgan Wallen considering how big Last Night was last year. They also always need to be playing a Post Malone song, and Fortnight is starting to fall off along with the rest of Taylor's songs.

Really big Post Malone radio hits since the late 2010s: 2017 Congratulations, Rockstar 2018 Psycho, Better Now 2019 Wow, Too Good at Goodbyes 2020 Circles 2021 no major hits despite Motley Crew getting a little bit of airplay when it came out (might be wrong on this one) 2022 I Like You 2023 Chemical 2024 Fortnight, I've Had Some Help

@@alex_flamer tbh I didn't hear Chemical very much last year even on pop radio. About this time last year, I thought Post Malone was in danger of fading away since his more recent solo singles weren't doing very well. Like Todd in the Shadows mentioned in his 2022 worst list, it seems like Post Malone is holding on just fine by using more active hitmakers like Doja Cat, Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen.

This week's activity seemed to be all over the place but I might agree with the results for all of it. I'm not really pleased that "the boy is mine" is being pushed as the next single when there was better on the album like "supernatural", and with the remix that features the artists that popularized that title, it gives me the feeling her team was hoping for the video to boost streaming more than it did. Next week is uncertain on whether we give album bomb traction from Don Toliver, Luke Combs, or $uicideboy$, depending on if streaming is stable, but we also will get that Moneybagg Yo collab with Morgan Wallen from his recent album to likely chart pretty high, especially since the Apple Music streaming is doing really well and it's gaining on Spotify.

One more thing I wanna say about Sabrina Carpenter is that the 2010s albums you heard don't define her anymore. She's changed, she's grown up, and she found her sound. I think we should look at her with a fresh start instead of the mismanaged material she had years ago. It's just not a fair critique
@TheBlackPanther056 ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly.
@vicstonek96 ай бұрын
Even so, her sound is so light and uninteresting to me. The ways artists change and form their sounds and images are very much rooted via their pasts, what they learn from their past works, and how they can form and grow into a more acute and comfortable sound to them. All and all, Sabrina's work and sound is so lightweight, husky, and passable radio filler to me personally, harsh to say but it's just my feelings imo. It's not bad, but again, at most, passable. Alot of her songs sound like lesser versions of already existing modern day tracks or shaky attempts that may not be bad but aren't elevating anything.
@jchmusic75876 ай бұрын
@vicstonek9 That's actually a really fair point. I think Mark's points on why her music doesn't work for him are also fair. I just feel like it's unnecessary to bring up the albums that are far removed from what she's doing today every time. I think your reason is really good

Beautiful As You's chorus isn't good either, but at least it doesn't repeat the song's title over and over again. WOTW: All My Life - First off, that failed Southern accent from Ronnie Radke made me laugh my ass off. Second, why is Jelly Roll here? You're better than this! It seems like every year of the 2020s so far has had at least one pop star absolutely dominate and assert their A-list status! 2020: The Year of Dua Lipa/The Weeknd 2021: The Year of Olivia Rodrigo (in her DEBUT mind you)/Doja Cat 2022: The Year of Harry Styles/Bad Bunny 2023: The Year of SZA/(sigh) Morgan Wallen *2024: The Year of Sabrina Carpenter!*

Does High Road remind anyone else of Dirt Road Anthem by Jason Aldean? It's like an unholy Frankenstein mutant rehash of that abomination from more than a decade ago, with a similar sound that's somehow more stale for the first minute or so before it becomes pure poison as a duet. Worst song I've heard on the charts in months, and I'm not even kidding about that; part of me hopes it sticks around because this year has been so devoid of downright atrocities that punching bags like this one are not exactly a dime a dozen.
@alex_flamer6 ай бұрын
I don't really understand how Dirt Road Anthem is a bad song. I can see how his rapping would cause people to cringe, but I really dig the rest of the song (despite him putting out Try That In A Small Town.)
@beatoriche73016 ай бұрын
@@alex_flamer I don't wanna take away from your enjoyment of the song, but it's arguably the most baffling bro country song of all time for me; it sounds joyless and downright turgid despite supposedly going for a more celebratory attitude reveling in the simple things in life, Aldean's persona is as unlikable as always, and his rapping doesn't help matters either. I would attribute more subversive undertones to the text of the song, except we know that Aldean in particular is exactly the kind of person who would engage in this kind of hollow pandering with a straight face while also paradoxically pioneering the borrowing of hip-hop cliches in a display of real cultural insecurity. I really don't like Dirt Road Anthem.

Album Thoughts: Honeymind-Ben Platt Placing your weakest song on your album next to your best song sure are moments for albums to have. This one had one with placing Before I Knew You and Cherry on Top next to each other. I think Before I Knew You might be up there with Bobby Sox as one of the worst songs that featured in something I gave an Album Thoughts™ to. Something about it is a chore to listen to. Outside of that, this album is pretty good. Along with Cherry on Top, another highlight is Boy Who Hung The Moon. Something about the verse about going to the movies during Home of the Terrified got a smile out of me. Happy pride month everyone. Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna try to figure out if Adam Grahn's house or Ben Platt's treehouse is cooler.

Music-Related Movie Trailer Thoughts: Smile 2 (Wait, what?) Ok, so this was not a film I was expecting to talk about here during the beginning of the year. But when I was looking at Cinema Con announcements, I saw that apparently this movie is about a pop star or something. Oh, so it's one of those Die Hard/Gremlins type of music-releated movies. Guess I have to talk about it. Not only I haven't seen the original Smile, but I don't even think I've seen any advertisements for it. The fact that while Smile made more money than Nope worldwide, Nope made more dometistically is proof that sometimes, Americans can be more competent than other countries even it's not often. The premise for this sequel sounds like a shitpost. I remember seeing somewhere it was gonna be called "Smile Deluxe." But instead, it's called "Smile 2." Booooooooo! Lame! Go back to the original title you cowards. By the way, in this new exciting episode of "Interesting Things My Town's Two Screen Theater Did," apparently this was one of the rare movies they made a post about a new trailer release for them. They didn't even make those type of posts until Inside Out 2. Then they started making those posts more often with Transformers One, Deadpool and Wolverine, Despicable Me 4, Twisters, and now this. Remember last week when I said I hope they show Piece by Piece. If they don't, it'll sting more when they show this thing. Have I ever mentioned they showed Oppenheimer for one week, but showed fucking Sound of Freedom for three? They also never showed an A24 movie until this year. I didn't actually watch this trailer.

Sabrina is a great actress, she was always able to play this cheeky girl vibes so well, but something is her music is refusing to click with me, its like she cant pick a lane, all the other pop girls got their niche but its like Sabrina lives by what the labels want her to do and then all of a sudden she remembers she need to bring her personality out so it comes out in like one or two lines that stick out like a sore thumb she can and should play the bratty girl, she is the Bratz to Taylor Swifts Barbie, but she gotta pick up some more tempo in those songs to compliment this brattyness cause those low/mid tempo songs do no service for her

You know, I feel like 90% of the hate for Falling in Reverse is just because of Ronnie. I'm in no way a fan of Radke or his brand of mediocre hard rock, but that doesn't have to come at the actual music's expense. Or Jelly Roll's, for that matter! Furthermore, I don't like Sabrina Carpenter's music at all. I also find Chappell Roan's music underwhelming. Why exactly are we comparing these artists again? Also what is up with Sabrina's MVs always featuring people getting hurt or gruesomely killed? Yikes.
