honestly i think it's such a testament to sabrina's writing that you were able to get all of that from "because i liked a boy" without knowing that it's (partially) a response to "drivers license" and that backlash

As someone who has loved Sabrina and followed her career since forever, I honestly think shes just versatile as an artist! I don’t even think it’s necessarily that she’s still finding her sound, but instead she has multiple different vibes to most of her songs. She has a lot of songs that are more r&b inspired, a LOTT of pop, and some singer/songwriter. That’s why I feel like the different sounds didn’t throw me off with this album because i’ve grown to expect it with her lol!! love how you break down the lyrics to her songs & really pay attention, great reaction!!

Summary of the drama in case anyone cares🤡: Olivia changed her lyric "brunette girl" to "blonde girl" in drivers licence, and Sabrina had a tiktok with Joshua on Halloween so people realised that they were dating. People hated on Sabrina for dating Joshua, and blamed her for his break up with Olivia, and sent Sabrina death threaths and all🤡. She released her song "skin" as a response mostly to the haters. People thought she released it to hate on Olivia and they started hating on Sabrina even more. Meanwhile Joshua republished his song "lie lie lie" or wtv, and people also kept dissecting the meanings behind that, but I never listened to him so idk his part of the drama. Then Olivia released the rest of her album which in some tracks people took as her side of the story, and then Sabrina released hers, which again is like her side of the story. Loved your reaction btw! And the Chicago moment>>> You should also react to some of her older stuff like Thumbs, Exhale, In My Bed and Sue Me.

I think Joshua said Lie Lie Lie was about a friend and not about the drama. But he put out 3 songs-- Crisis, Secret, and Set Me Free on an EP. Crisis & Secret definitely have to do with Olivia, and I think Set Me Free started out as being related to her but then he said in an interview (I think?) that he found a deeper/larger meaning to it as well related to some past traumas he dealt with.

in because i like a boy she is actually singing about when olivia rodrigo did drivers license and a lot of people hated on sabrina, the boy that sabrina dated was olivia's ex (Joshua Bassett) i actually super recomend the ep "sad songs in a hotel room" by joshua, i was sooo addictive when came out

Nonsense almost didn't make the album, but definitely did end up being a big hit for her. It for sure feels Ariana-influenced (Sabrina also opened for her on one of her tours years back). I think she said they hit a writer's block so just started throwing out fun "nonsense-ish" lines to try to break through. I always take it as when you first start seeing someone/have a crush on them and you're kind of giddy or feel like you can't speak properly around them because you like them.

I usually agree with your responses to albums but I kind of feel like you needed a little context as to who she's been as an artist and her growth. I think this particular album was Sabrina's sound because of the writing style. Her particular brand of lyricism is sort of what defines the cohesion of this body of work. And maybe I'm wrong and this will age poorly over the next few years as we get more work from her, but I don't think you'd experienced enough of her work before this

because I liked a boy is about the drama she was dragged into for nothing cause sabrina dated joshua bassett who also dated olivia but him and olivia broke up in 2019 and him and sabrina dated in 2020 and when olivia released drivers license her fans started attacking sabrina sending her death threats and slut shaming her for liking a boy then she released skin about the hate she was receiving then olivia’s fans was accusing her of rubbing the chorus in olivia’s face which was not even towards olivia it was towards her fans joshua hurt both of these women but people wants to go after the person who is innocent instead of going after the person that hurt both women it’s giving misogyny
