Oh you're gonna have a good fucking time next week, Katy Perry released a new song with Migos called Bon Appetite, and it is by far the worst song she's ever made, and Fall Out Boy released a horrendous new Dubstep-themed single that samples fucking Britney Spears lyrics called Young and Menace, and BY FUCKING GOD is this the worst song I've heard this year so far, AND I LIKE FALL OUT BOY! Also DJ Khaled's new song with Bieber, Wayne, Chance, and Quavo called I'm The One is getting MASSIVE KZbin, streaming, and radioplay, I can easily see this debuting in the Top 5, maybe even #2 or #1, who knows, it's not a bad song either.

Dang, when I heard that bass groove from that clip of Charlie Puth's song, I got real bummed a better performer didn't have that track... Also, I adore Paramore's newest song. I enjoyed the disconnect between the lyrics and musical atmosphere. It most certainly showed there's something not quite right in someone's head, but was also kinda hopeful. Without stating it in the lyrics the almost feels hopeful with its happy tone. Like, "Hey, there's some hard times, but you can just dance right through em."

*Best of the week: Shawn Mendez* My first thought: "BUTTER CANDY CAN"
@claystripe65147 жыл бұрын
My Ranking: Hard Times- Best of the Week, it's a cognitively dissonant bop from one of my favorite bands There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back- Honorable Mention, easily the best song the kid's ever put out Attention- wtf *was* this week with decent songs from terrible artists, the groove on this is great My Girl- it's cute Lust For Life- Dishonorable Mention, Lana's detachment rarely works for me, and both artists just sound bored do re mi- Worst of the Week, just whiny white boy rap Glad that Bruno got that number one, even if it looks like Bieber's gonna take it from him with either Despacito or I'm the One. So happy that Location, Slide, Redbone, and Castle on the Hill are doing well. The Night We Met, too, even if it is only because the fifth episode of 13 Reasons Why is basically a commercial for the track (to its credit, it does add a ton to an already pretty emotional song, I can see why people are downloading the crap out of it). Really, it was a pretty positive week. Only real disappointment is that Machine Gun Kelly looks to be getting another boring-sounding hit- also, really wish Hailee Steinfeld was as compelling a singer as she is an actress. It's kind of sad to see the two biggest pop stars of my adolescence, Gaga and Katy, flounder so visibly, though it would be a lot sadder if their singles were, you know, good. Finally, I know everybody in the comments has already said it, but holy crap I can't wait for next week. I mean, it'll be painful, but the new Fall Out Boy and Katy Perry tracks are some of the worst things ever forced upon my ears, and I can't wait to see them eviscerated (and hopefully flop so that Fall Out Boy at least can maybe course correct in the half a year before that album is supposed to come out).

Island did reissue Illuminate in April (both the standard and deluxe edition), Spotify says both versions came out in 2017, and I remember seeing There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back in the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify in late April. My List: BOTW: Attention There's Nothin' Holding Me Back Hard Times My Girl Lust For Life WOTW: do re mi
@impulseburst23677 жыл бұрын
I will say this about Attention: for some reason it just clicks for me. Yes, Puth's frail high notes are a bit cringy, but for some reason the song still works for me. Considering that I've hated everything else I've heard from that guy before, I'm surprised this turned out as well as it did. I think the groovy production and some of the vocal effects used to mask the occasional voice cracks in the pre-chorus is a big part of that.
@thejustinoshow79087 жыл бұрын
For Me Hard Times (Best of the Week) There's Nothing Holding Me Back Lust for Life Attention My Girl (Dishonorable Mention) do re mi (worst of the week, even though I do like the beat) Aside from Hard Times, I'm really meh on all of these. I'm hoping Redbone finally gets to the top 40, XO Tour Llif3 keeps climbing, because I love the shit out of it, Slide peaks in time to compete with "I'm the One" for the song of the summer, and Kendrick's "DNA." and "LOVE." find a way to have crossover appeal. I'm still waiting on hearing HUMBLE. on the radio though, probably because the only station that played rap more than once an hour has changed its entire playlist entirely. Next week, I'm hoping for some Gorillaz, Chris Stapleton, "I'm the One" to debut high and stick around, Harry's new single hopefully hitting the charts (even though that could be next week, he just dropped it today) and "Bon Apetit" to be a flop in every way possible.
@ShanesSquirrelShack7 жыл бұрын
I think another reason Kendrick is falling along with other rappers is that summer is on the way which means country is making a comeback. I'm not a pro at predicting the charts but those are my two cents.

Well, I wasn't surprised that this week happened. However, it'll be a more interesting week next week. I'm The One, I predict, would debut in the top 10. Maybe a bit optimistic, but I can see it at number one because of gaining radio, leading sales and both KZbin and streaming is going to blast it to the top. It may have some competition from Despacito, but I wouldn't bet that nothing would touch I'm The One. Also, it sounds like a summer-y song, which is perfect for it. For the new songs I care about, Hard Times and There's Nothing Holding Me Back are great songs. Paramore fan here, and I found Hard Times super enjoyable. Shame it won't be big. For Mendes' song, I see some problems that you do talk about. The acoustics kinda irritate me and it feels too long. The bridge really annoys me because half of it would suffice in the song. Anyways, good week. The top 10 looks solid and gives me hopes that 2017 may continue the trend of odd numbered years are ones I like better. And I expect some huge shifts next week.
@aronpuma59627 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting trend that I have noticed as well, that odd numbered years are better than even, though for my money 2012 kind of broke the trend and was better than both 2011 and 2013 (though both of those years were better than 2010 and 2014).
@SPTofumon7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can definitely agree with that. 2012 had songs that I would even give 10s to (Lights, for example). 2013 had many songs that had quality, but not to that standard of 2012.
@aronpuma59627 жыл бұрын
I'd say the bigger problem for 2013 was that there were just more bad songs than 2012, although I may be remembering the year wrong. And all that said, I think that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's "Can't Hold Us," at least for me, is tied with "Humble" as the best number one hit of the past 10 years.
@SPTofumon7 жыл бұрын
I can't really talk for anything past 2010. Hell, I can barely talk about 2010/2011. I have a bad habit of only listening to songs that I enjoy on the year end list. However, I would agree that 2013 had more bad songs. I mean, Harlem Shake in top 5 of the year end? How bad can it get down there to have it in the top 5? And I can definitely see Can't Hold Us as rivaling Humble. For me there are many other quality songs that hit number one like Uptown Funk.
@aronpuma59627 жыл бұрын
Oh yes Uptown Funk! That is certainly an excellent song, although I don't think it is better than Can't Hold Us or Humble, just because as much retro class as it has, I feel the bridge could have been more ambitious than just "Uptown funk you up" repeated several times (not to say it didn't work, but something else could have worked better). Perhaps it would be most accurate to say that Can't Hold Us is the most ambitious number 1 of the past 10 years without, too much debate I don't think. It just tried to do more, that's why I rate it so high. It was not content to be a song within itself. Macklemore may not be the rapper that Kendrick is, but Mike-Will Made it, even at his best with Humble, is no Ryan Lewis. It's weird to think of how much good music we've had in pop.

Best of the Week: Lust for Life (I love Lana & Abel's collaborations. I'm actually looking forward to a Lana album for once) Honorable Mention: Attention (Fuck Charlie Puth. Why is this song tolerable tho?) Worst of the Week: There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back (Shawn Mendes needs to cut his vocal cords. I'm sick of this rat.) Dishonorable Mention: Do Re Mi (The chorus and production is disastrous.)
@aronpuma59627 жыл бұрын
I think Attention is tolerable because, like Cake by the Ocean, it is a song that has a pretty groovy bass line, a prettty solid, though underused guitar, and is one of the closest things to rock we really are going to get. And both of them are let down by there singers and there lyrics. For my money, Attention has a better groove and instrumentation, but Charlie Puth's singing is by far worse than Joe Jonas, whose sleaziness at least fit the song.
