I forgot that "Armageddon It" was that big of a hit here in the US. Also, Boy Meets Girl tried to get the late Whitney Houston (Clive Davis nixed that idea) and Belinda Carlisle to record the song to no avail, so duo did it itself and did it very well.

Phases of the 80s in music: 1979-1980 (70s finale/80s prelude) First seeds of the 80s start to sprout in music. 1981 (70s/80s transition year) 1982-1983 (Early 80s) When the 80s trends started to become mainstream and noticeable. 1984-1985 (Core 80s) The peak of the 80s, everything about this time screams 80s. 1986 (80s midlife crisis year) When the trends of the previous years started to slow down and lose traction, giving way to new trends. 1987-1988 (Modern 80s) When the 80s sounds started to get experimental to get keep up with the changing zeitgeist. First signs of the 90s show up around this time. 1989-1990 (Late 80s) The last gasp of the 80s when pop music became processed to the extreme and years of excess finally came to pay off. More noticeable 90s trends make their first appearance. 1991 (80/90s transition year) P.S. There were even 80s trends in music as late as 1992/1993.

I am often surprised by how quickly Paula disappeared as her Spellbound album songs were quite successful in 1991, then she never made the top 10 again in 1992.

I often felt that "Look Away" was a lousy pick to be the #1 song of 1989 as it was never in the top 5 in 1989. Billboard does the year end charts from Thanksgiving to Thanksgiving and not New Years Day to New Years Day.

I know they needed to do that so their double issue year end edition could be compiled and delivered before the new year ended. But I couldn't agree more, while personally like the song, , "Look Away" has gone on to be one of the LEAST memorable and least worthy #1 songs of the year...maybe ever.

paula abdul about to become the first female with 5 no. 1's from debut album. i (my team) won a trivia contest with that answer.

"Forever Your Girl" album only had 4 #1s. Straight Up, Forever Your Girl, Cold Hearted & Opposites Attract. The Way That You Love Me only peaked at #3. Mariah Carey was the first person to go to #1 with her first 5 singles, but her 5th single "Emotions" was on her second album.

@@MrShortWhiteGuy either way pa was the first with 4 straight no. 1's from debut album doing it a year before carey did. katy perry had 5 no.1's but it wasn't debut album. hush hush first single from second pa album went to no. 1 as well. 5 out of first 6 went to no. 1. madonna, janet, whitney didn't do that.
