I’ve loved this song since first hearing it many years ago. In fact, I chose it for the band to play it at my Daughter’s wedding 15 years ago. The Father-Daughter dance. Pure Bill Evans and Tony Bennett what a combination! Dan Radakovich

I also chose this song for the father-daughter dance at my daughter's wedding, back in 2009. We used a DJ instead of a band, and we had him play this Bill Evans/Tony Bennett rendition. A friend who also loves Bill Evans told me that I would cry if we used this song. I managed not to cry, but it was perfect for capturing how I felt on the day when I gave my daughter at the altar.

Whenever I hear this and think about my daughter, Olivia, (which I always do), I have to have a lie down and/or take a brisk walk to regain my composure. How did Gene Lees (the lyricist) know? …

What does "Vale to the incomparable..." mean?
@andyzxc Жыл бұрын
@@garymerken3837 ‘Vale’ is Latin for ‘farewell’. It’s a traditional usage in English when the person being farewelled has died (as opposed to popping out to the shops), and is intended to convey a somewhat formal and ceremonial sense.

@@andyzxc, thanks. When say traditional usage in English, do you mean English as spoken in England and Great Britain? I guess I'm not familiar with it in American English.

Love this. Learning to appreciate Como and jazz, more and more, the phrasing and dynamics, the emotional expression. Maybe it's my age. Any jazz keyboardists out there who'd like to team up to record something? My range is similar to Como's. Maybe a little more extended than his. It's a long shot, I know, but so what. I'm in the Portland, OR area but remote is easy these days.

Of course, you meant Tony Bennett (who sings on this record) and not Perry Como (who sounds like Bennett a bit, but was hardly the interpreter that was Tony Bennett)

BE didn’t write the lyrics. They were written by the well known jazz writer and critic Gene Lees.
