I’m the type of person who is super vulnerable to music, songs would make me cry when I was a toddler and they still do today. The line “How much I wanted you” being in the past tense sent me to that place and I’ll be damned, I understand why this song spoke to so many people. Songs at the time didn’t reference ‘ending it all’; The validation of the lyrics being synonymous with their painful experiences must have been powerful. Suicides are set to music all the time, this just happened to be one of the first widely known cases.
