The first time I heard this song was in the film Forever Young when Mel Gibson & Jamie Leigh Curtis dance cheek to cheek. I was about 12. I’m 40 soon and have been a devoted fan of Billie Holiday ever since. Such a beautiful song x

I agree. My husband recently transitioned on November 30th 2021. Still "recently" in my mind. Because daily I'm reminded he's not coming back. It's heart breaking indeed 💔. I listened to Billie every waking hour. My soul and heart are torn. We were to celebrate our 21st year today being together and our 15th wedding anniversary on March 22nd. My birthday/chapter 46 on March 2nd and his on March 17th. It stinks. The comfort is slow 🐌 coming but it is there.

I also pray that she is as pain free as possible during her final journey. Please pray for my mother's passing to be peaceful, filled with faith, and for her not to be scared, as is humanly possible. Prayers from a musically inclined community mean especially a lot.

Billie's voice is perfection! One quality the greats often display in their singing voices is that peculiar timbre and texture, where it starts to resemble an instrument. Ella had that, for example. But when either one of them does that 'quiet belt', leaning into the power of a note, with compression, but not so much volume, and the straight, even delivery gets that clean edge to it? Love that!
@MissMcFluffyStuff3 жыл бұрын
I was about 13 years old when I first heard this song. I was a little girl writing in journals poetry and watching stars from my window at night. Sure, it sounds so basic, but that was the peaceful beauty of it. The same as the simplistic beauty of this song. No crazy beats and thumps. Just a song you became a day dreamer dancing to this with the one you love. Hearing this is that joy all over again. Thank you. ❤

When I hear this song 🎶 The Very Thought of You🎶 I remember when I went to the movie theater to watch the movie “Forever Young” with Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis. It was a very lovely and nice movie and funny at times. Billie Holiday was a very beautiful lady, classy, elegant and exquisite. I was not even born when she was singing but this song stuck with me when I heard it for having a nice melody with beautiful lyrics. I have this song by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many others. And again, when these jazz singers were active singing, I wasn’t even born and my Mom never thought about ever getting married 😊😂 Very lovely video of a singing icon, Billie Holliday, of an era where elegance, class and beauty and great jazz music was very much the way of life. Rest in Peace always, Billie, I am sure you are sorely missed by those who knew you and can appreciate great music. 🙏🌹

I've heard many from back in that special time for music....when things seemed so much more pure, but I always come back to Lady Day for more. In the spirit world, I hope that she's aware of her impact and the amount of love for her... For as much as we've learned about her, even her process for selecting songs and her almost unique interpretations of her performances (there's some hints of Satchmo there...), I'll bet you that the half has never been told.

Beautiful and tender song that touches the hearts of two people in love, but due to existing obstacles between their lives, they cannot express that love. For this reason, they have no other solution than to continue living with that pain and desolation, and suffer sleepless nights thinking about the person they love. What bitterness it is to feel that the heart implodes inside the chest, followed by that sensation of suffocation to end with that blow to the stomach, a symptom of the impotence of not being able to shout, "I love you."

Theodore Shaw, "Teddy" Wilson the pianist of many of Lady's early hits was also more renowned him and Lionel Hampton as members of Benny Goodman auxiliary outfit; didn't die "so" young unless 73 years old is young , not super old, but damn sure ain't young. Born November 24 1912 Died July 31 1986 come with facts, this kind of information is so easy to research, so what have you read about Mr. Wilson yourself? Take your time there's always Google.
@td3993 Жыл бұрын
@@Jamestown-y9j Why the hostile reply? Maybe you should educate yourself on Margaret Queenie Johnson, who played piano for this piece, and died of tuberculosis at only about age 20.

Heard of her, she was from K.C. was a prodigy with great pormise, she made a few recordings, but noway she was in a band with Lady she did a session or so. though she was on the scene for a minute, and yes it was tragic for anyone to pass that young, actually Lady really never had a band, and it was common then they would put artists (soloist and singers) name on a record and say "and their orchestra" Only actual bands she was officially in was with Basie for about a year, and Artie Shaw's crew for a little less than a year or so.Otherwise Lady freelance with the top jazz musician of the day; thats why she was so beloved by fellow musicians; but her main partners in her early successes was, Wilson, and tenorman Lester " Prez Young" sorry if was crass. An excellent biography on Holiday is titled Wishing on the Moon. A great read, informative, funny and also very tragic, though she passed at 44, she packed alot of life in. But in general she for the most part did not waddle in being a victim though she was; she lived her life on her terms, though recklessly. Again apologies for my forwardness.

Very nice Billie with the core of the Count Basie band of that time. This session which included 3 more songs were the only recordings by pianist, Margaret "Countess" Johnson. A musical prodigy, Johnson was an active part of the Kansas City jazz scene as a teenager. She worked in sessions and seversl bands there including one she led. Her style on this and the other 3 tunes is quite different from both Count Basie and Teddy Wilson. She died in 1939 at twenty years old. Nina Cherry has a short but intriguing piece on "Countess" in Kansas City Magazine, Dec. 2,2021

I look at this crumbling nation so full of control and inability to support freedom nowadays, and Billie takes me back to a much stronger era of freedom and a generation who fought for it unlike today. Its was a nation preserved on civil liberty and pursuit of happiness and folks who would tip their hats while walking along the busy streets of downtown storefronts from one small american town to another. Those very small town storefronts that you now see abandoned or used as small businesses and coffee shops as some folks keep trying to hold on to that small piece of the American dream. Billie reminds me of this. She reminds me of small town Americana as a gentlemen sets along his front porch, lights up a cigar, slaps open a paper, and takes in the sweet sounds of Mrs Holiday from one of those old tyme radios that cracks and pops like the crisp sound of a turntable personally delivering the sounds of Mrs Billie straight to your ears only. Ugh. Lemme go back and never come back here again.
