I can't understand why this song wasn't a huge hit. Billie Myers what just ahead of her time, I suppose.

Winter Steele if you were that generation who was aware of this song when it came out, you would know that this shortly followed Kiss the Rain and admit it, everybody loved that song, people still wanted it on radio, if not, it was getting played in other countries and this song felt pale in comparison - this is the effect of one-hit wonders

@@godwindracing6056 Only heard her songs thanks to Dawson’s Creek original broadcast and reruns on TV. It’s a shame she wasn’t famous overseas, and I love her Growing, Pains album, not just Kiss the Rain.

If you know the movie "Strange Days" which came out in 1995, you know where Billie Myers got her inspiration from, or it is a total coïncidence. Anyway: there's a scene in the movie where a guy almost gets orgasmic while he only playbacks a "clip" of a young girl taking a shower. So what if the technique in that movie was real, Billie could actually experience what she sings about.

Love this song and actually bought it on single! It never gets skipped when it comes up on my iPod! I remember just before this was released it was heavily played on radio and music TV, and I think the record company were disappointed when it wasn't top 5 like previous single Kiss The Rain, and pulled the plug on the promotion when it was 'only' top 30. But this is a more alternative, adult-oriented and edgy track & video and in hindsight top 30 was a success, and the record company misjudged the track and the market by assuming that this should have been higher. The fact this went top 30 shows a solid fanbase was being built and an artist with her own style. Universal obviously just wanted a pop hit machine.

Our local Alternative Radio Station played the hell out of this in early-mid 1998 & then it seemingly faded into obscurity overnight. This song SHOULD have been a huge hit...and I'm not quite sure why it wasn't. I absolutely LOVE the sitar in this song. I've only heard the sitar used in popular music by Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman, & Billie Meyers....I'm sure there are more. But I bought the CD single for "Tell Me". Both the radio edit, & the album track sound amazing. The Radio Edit seemed to have some guitar & sitar. The CD single also has a lovely acoustic version of "Kiss The Rain". Boy yeah....this song deserved so much better. I think the mistake was that it was released to radio TOO soon. "Kiss The Rain" was still a big hit & getting lots of radio play when this song was released as the 2nd single. Her label should've gave "Kiss The Rain" a little more time to cool on the charts & then released this to radio. This song does jam at a party....I'm telling you. Just throw it on & turn it up!

@OlgaLevin9 жыл бұрын
At the time nobody cared. Unless news got out that those people were working as teachers and pastors in churches. That's when arrests started happening. Not saying that it was right that homosexuals stayed locked up in closets or anything like that. Just that back then we knew who was a homosexual from whispered rumors. Back then, by and large the general public didn't care. It only started to become an issue when people started to come out publicly. That's when we were starting to see LGBT targeted more. Then the Matthew Shephard incident changed everything.
@AegisEpoch8 жыл бұрын
+Olga Levin i think the conservative movement that happened around 2000-2001 helped make being gay an issue. during that time, there were people who were against the "sanitization" of our culture but often wen about it the wrong way, becoming ineffective. ironically, I think the whole pushback to homophobia that came around the time with shows like "queer eye for straight guy" and "will and grace" by saying "if you're a straight male who doesn't like gays, you must be gay" made it worse.
@OlgaLevin8 жыл бұрын
AegisEpoch That's another problem there too. Nothing wrong with being homosexual of course. But when society bends the rules and all of a sudden getting married is the "gayest thing to do" for straight people.

Click the time posted here to skip to the actual song - 0:33. This is my personal favorite of Billie Myers's work. While it is sad that the song wasn't more popular that it was, I still sort of understand why; when you provide a snappy way of saying "Kiss my you-know-what" without swearing, people tend to expect that sort of thing with every song you do, and it's difficult (though not impossible) to break away from that sort of typecasting.
