I was on that ship for a Deaf Co. Cruise. I went with many stars on that ship. Everyone on that ship was deaf, and not one hearing person. Even the crew! Although the Capt. wasnt deaf, he was hearing but can sign ASL. And you might be right, Freedom Of The Seas was pretty big. We had our own Starbucks inside our room, and our own Ben & Jerry's. I have to admit though, the QM2 looks pretty big. But then, that would mean some competion between the both of them. Nice video. Enjoyed it!

Progress that harkins back from the liners from the early 1900s. I love it.

It's really more then a $Billion boat. It costs millions to fuel this ship, supply it with not only food, but gourme food, and to staff and maintain her. It seems like a lot of pressure to be under to stay in the black. One wrong move and the ship loses a ton of money and could slip into the red.

Panama is planning new wider locks for the canal in the near future so Queen Mary 2 and other huge ships will be able to transit the canal. This eliminates the expensive round South America trip when she is doing cruises.

Cunard was building ships over a century before RCCL even existed. It built speed champions and some of the largest ships built in their time. They built liners that could go over 30 knots. RCCL cruise ships can barely do 20 and can't stand up to a storm like a liner can.

There's planns to preserve this & put it next the QM1. i hope they do that, rather than scrap it
@utthapa10 ай бұрын
This ship is not as beautiful-looking as The Queen Mary for it to be preserved. The top decks just look like nondescript apartment blocks. Apart from the size, there's nothing beautiful about the exterior of the ship. It's certainly no Titanic or SS France. It's better to scrap her on retirement.
@acvossius15 жыл бұрын
Waves create a pendulum motion for ships, flatbottom ships have no keel, they would tip over, capseize and possibly sink. Can`t just slap a keel on the flat bottom, it would snap right off. Hull design on oceangoing ships are fairly uniform, a flat bottom would actually make it verry unstable.
@jjarchit17 жыл бұрын
Also, QM2's ratio of balcony cabins is becomming somewhat low when compared to other new builds.
@christiangoth8416 жыл бұрын
A ship doesn't sink if it has too much weight, it sinks if it's total buoyancy is less than 0. Buoyancy comes out of a ratio between weight and the amount of water that the ship displaces. If you make the hull large enough you can accommodate any amount of weight.

This OCEAN LINER, does not frequently cross Cape Horn, the documentary exaggerates the whose situation. She's actually even the safest passenger ship out there. And she features many safety features from the past ocean liners. Plus there's a new panama canal, eliminating the requirement of crossing cape horn.

@Gotred Actually, I think that there are plans to do exactly that. Actually, not the canal itself, but there are plans to build new sets of locks, parallel to the existing ones, which would accomodate wider container ships. I don't know how far along the project is, or when it will be completed.
@homeric916 жыл бұрын
A shame Mr. Arison didn't put this level of design and thought into at least one more ship within the Carnival brand. we are constantly subjected to the same old Vista and Panamax ships with the same decor, same layouts for all his different brands time and again. Carnival acts incredibly complacent with its product and I sincerely hope soemone takes over Carnival and gives both Mickey and his company the kick in the butt it needs,

James Russell invented the compact disk in 1965. James Russell was granted a total of 22 patents for various elements of his compact disk system. However, the compact disk did not become popular until it was mass manufactured by Philips in 1980. The first Cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper. Yeah and last time I checked he did invent the lightbulb who gives a flying fuck about previous inventions. Simple thing is that they did it and they were a US citizen.

Some info, the Titanic was the biggest for her year 1912. Since then there has been hundreds, hundreds of much larger ships, the titanic is small in comparison to ocean liners of the late 1910s, 20s, 30s, 40s, & 50s. For a person to refer to the titanic shows how out of view you are to the world and history around you.

2years later: And the new panama canal is finished!!!!! Captain: oh hey, we can now go through the panama canal
@jjarchit17 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, QM2 would have been better if she hadn't been built with Carnival's management influencing Cunard. Except without Carnival's deep pockets, Cunard could have never afforded to build a ship this big. Still, she looks more like an average cruise ship than a liner. I think I remember hearing that Cunard had two identical sisters planned before Carnival came along. Another thing I don't get about the video...isn't there a good amount of cruise ships that sail around Cape Horn?

1:14 no wider than the Panama Canal? QM2 cannot fit through the canal as she is a post 'Panamax' ship. The QE2 was a Panamax ship with dimensions of 964x105. QM2 will be able to transit the new locks at the Panama canal when they are completed.
