Oprah was an opportunist. She saw a way to get her ratings up with MJ'S interview yet stayed silent when he needed someone in his corner. You can see the cycle throughout the years. Blanket gave Oprah the business in that 2010 interview! Hahahaha! When Oprah reached out to shake his hand, Blanket rubbed his hand across his mouth & had her shake his sticky hand. Even at that young age of 8, he knew she was up to no good & let her have it. The family knows, my man. The Jackson Family-particularly mother Katherine-tried to forgive Oprah after Michael's death. Jackie goes on that long-awaited date Oprah always wanted. LaToya starts a show featuring parents Katherine & Joseph on Oprah's OWN cable network. Paris allows Oprah to interview her again at 14 years old. Katherine gave Oprah a drawing Michael made of Martin Luther King Jr. which Oprah displayed in a meme-worthy pic. And she STILL plays into the demonization of Michael Jackson. Even after ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley tells her the truth about her & Michael's marriage after his death (It was real). But it backfired this time around when she backed Leaving Neverland. This is no longer the TV Age, you TV Talk Show Host. This is NOW the Internet Age. And as the late great Whitney Houston said, this is an era where it's all about showing THE RECEIPTS. When THE RECEIPTS showed up after that smearjob Oprah backed, the people THEN put the scrutiny on HER instead. The Jackson Family's attempts at reconciliation with Oprah will end up working in their favor. Now there's documented evidence of her two-faced clout-chasing nature for all the world to see.

Oprah was such a unique case because she constantly swirled around the Jackson family like a vulture. I still don’t understand why she goes so hard against him vs others. It always felt sacrificial, as if she had to take him down to keep in good standing with the elites. She was so calculated with who she went after and who she secretly protected. As someone who roots for Black success, this really confused me. I don’t want to hate her solely because of being a MJ fan, I just don’t understand her snake mentality. I really appreciate your thoughtful and fair comment. Not only have I been perplexed by her decisions with MJ, it more importantly broke my heart. I was always always such a HUGE Oprah fan. Like seriously! And what bothers me most was the fact that she reduced anyone that did not agree with the poorly done documentary as simply being Michael Jackson fans, as opposed to people who just want the objective truth told credibly. And even though I am such and MJ fan, I take every accusation seriously. But they were too many holes in this documentary for her to align herself with it. She has done so much for the black community in the world at large, for humanity. And I'm conflicted because I don't want all that she has done to be completely overshadowed and discarded because of this. The irony is that she did not take that same mindset towards MJ.

I have a very unique perspective on all of this as I saw my first J5 concert at 4 years old (thus becoming a lifelong MJ fan). I saw him/them many more times over the years, including flying home to L.A. from college in Tennessee TWICE for the last two dates of the Bad Tour (MJ got sick in November and they were rescheduled for January.) I also spent 5 days at Neverland in 2002 with the kids that put MJ on trial in 2005. (Chris Tucker and I became friends before he was famous and we called ourselves “working," but we didn’t accomplish much there - which should surprise exactly nobody lol). Davellin (Gavin’s sister) was my roommate at Neverland (we were the only females in our party of seven) and I formed a bond with those kids myself during our time there. (I've always been a "kid person," so it wasn't hard for it to happen. When I became close with my parents' neighbor's granddaughter - who moved in with her grandma at 4 because her mother lost custody and her father was in prison, she became my sidekick, and all of my friends knew her. At 10, she was treated like a queen on the set of "Rush Hour 3" by Chris, Jackie, and the crew (thanks to Chris) - and I endured it - because she was a fan of both of them. Sets are exceedingly boring for me, and Chris doesn't enjoy them much either - hence his low output of movies - but that's a story for another day lol.) So back in L.A., I knew the Arvizo kids' mom, grandparents, they slept over at my apartment; they even met MY parents. Chris didn’t have anything to do with my relationship with them after we left Neverland, and I honestly can’t remember if he was even aware that I was still in touch with them before the sh** hit the fan. So here’s the point of all that background: I saw (WITH MY OWN EYES) MJ and Gavin behaving in a perfectly normal fashion with each other at Neverland, so when that Bashir documentary came out, I just about fell out of my chair seeing Gavin and MJ all weirdly hugged up the way they were. Beyond that, the kids had never even mentioned that they took part in a documentary at the ranch; I’m sure it was presented to them in a way that suggested it wasn’t going to be a big deal. But after it aired, I KNEW it wasn’t going to be good. I KNEW that Gavin (who had no small ego) was going to catch hell at school, and that it wasn’t going to do anything to give MJ a more positive image. Then the media went crazy about how "inappropriate" everything was... About a year after I went to Neverland, Davellin told me that MJ was going to be arrested about 6 months before it happened during a phone call (without exactly saying that). I innocently asked if they’d been back to Neverland lately (I only went once, but I knew they were frequent guests), and she got quiet. When I asked if everything was OK, she said that they wouldn’t be going back to Neverland anymore. I could read between the lines and said, “Just tell me it isn’t what I might be thinking it is.” She replied, “I can’t.” Then I said, “I’m not going to ask you for any details, but just tell me one more thing… Is it civil or criminal?” She replied, “Criminal.” I don’t know if anyone really knows this (I didn’t at the time), but the law changed between MJ’s 1993 case and Gavin’s. It was no longer allowed for a civil case to proceed as long as a criminal case was pending, so the Arvizos couldn’t have gone after money UNLESS the criminal case had already run its course (if the authorities were willing to press charges). I spent the next 6 months waiting for the other shoe to drop - and when it did, the Arvizos cut off all contact. I can only assume that it was because I’d been friends with Chris for over a decade and it had become clear that he was siding with MJ. I certainly have my own theory as to what really happened (I don’t believe MJ did it, so my theory is about “why” - and the timing of it - because those kids loved MJ to the moon and back), but I don’t have any proof, so I just had the enormous misfortune of being emotionally attached on both sides. Strangely enough, Chris and I never talked about it (but as I said, I don’t remember if he even knew that I was still close with the family when it was all coming out). I will say that the Arvizos never asked me for ANYTHING (my not being rich or famous probably had something to do with that lol), but their mom was a little “off” (always overly appreciative that I was being nice to her kids, as if it had never happened before; I found out during the trial that a LOT of people - who the kids never mentioned - were VERY nice to her kids.) Gavin always gave MJ and Chris ALL of the credit (at least when talking to me) for him surviving cancer because their friendship gave him the strength to keep fighting. It’s troubling that they seemingly went out of their way to portray themselves as this band of six (including the grandparents; the dad - who they said was horribly abusive - was out of the picture before I met them) that would have lost Gavin without Michael Jackson and Chris. In truth, they were getting a LOT of support from a variety of sources before and after I met them. And it just doesn't make any sense that Gavin was FOURTEEN (or very close to it) between February/March 2003 (when the alleged abuse first took place). That's 8 to 9 months after I was at Neverland with them, and Gavin's part of the documentary was shot a good six months before that in December 2001 (according to what the kids told me), so Gavin looked WAY younger in the documentary than he would have when the alleged abuse happened. Also, Gavin's voice was already dropping when I met him at 13. The other accusers were upset about being supposedly "replaced" by a younger kid LONG before they were 14 and in the thick of puberty. MJ had access to Gavin (and his younger brother) for a few years. Why would he wait until Gavin was 14 to abuse him if his "type" was younger? And why would he wait until AFTER the documentary aired (when everybody was already looking at them sideways)? It just doesn't add up or make any sense. And if none of their stories match (besides the two that joined forces - after one of them already testified on MJ's behalf), it's all BS and all about money. But, ultimately, I guess the bottom line is that people are going to believe whatever they want to believe about these sorts of things - no matter who says what about any of it. EDIT: It's admittedly off topic, but I've written 10 chapters about my Neverland experience (and yes, it was AMAZING 😁). It's all in the replies for anyone who's interested.

@@shjj1983 PART ONE: It all actually started a few months before Neverland (in March 2002). By that point, I'd known Chris Tucker for about a decade and we'd been working together to get some of his ideas down on paper for about a year. To say that Chris (CT) is spontaneous would be an understatement for the ages, so I was already accustomed to just bouncing with him at a moment's notice. One morning (and I'm NOT a morning person), I got a call to go to an airport in Van Nuys. Two hours later, I was on a private jet (CT and I being the only passengers) to NY. It's kinda weird to think about it now, but I didn't ask any questions. CT's life was so much different by that point in comparison to what it was when we first became friends (almost getting kicked out of movie theatres for having popcorn fights and him coming to my parents' house to go jogging with me) that I was just focused on what we were working on and whatever we were doing when we were together. If he had a reason to be in NY and he wanted to work on ideas in and around that, so be it. When we got to NY, we checked into suites on different floors in the Palace Hotel. After going downstairs for dinner in the lobby restaurant, I have to admit that it was more than a bit strange that the only people in there (outside of the staff) were us... and former president Bill Clinton (with his secret service detail). I knew that he and CT were friends, so I didn't think that it was a coincidence, but... still kinda weird to meet a former president and shake his hand as he says, "Hi. I'm Bill" lol. CT even joked that I would have to be his security if anything crazy jumped off because I was all he had... So I assured him that if that happened, his goose was cooked - because I'd be running in the opposite direction of whichever way he went lol. Clinton finished eating first and left, and then we did. As we headed towards the elevators, I assumed that we were just going back to our own suites for the night, but CT stopped me from getting off on my floor, and then we didn’t get off on his either. Next thing I knew, we were getting off on the top floor and then we were in Michael Jackson's suite, and CT HAD NOT WARNED ME AT ALL! Bill Clinton was also in there and I WAS SHOOK. TOTALLY SHOOK! I was the only person with no business being in that room and just getting air into my lungs had become a problem. I was introduced, and I'm sure I mumbled something, but I just wanted to escape. When the three of them started doing impersonations of each other, I made up some reason to leave (that I don't even remember) and BOLTED! So... That story is important because I had my wits about me by the time we got to Neverland, and I don't want anyone to think that I was calm, cool, and collected (despite having met tons of famous folks growing up in and around the industry in L.A. by that point) in my first MJ encounter lol. PART TWO: Nothing MJ-related happened between that trip to NY and some day in June when, out of the blue, CT said: "Let's get away from everything and go to Mike's for the weekend." (Now, I obviously knew that CT and MJ were friends, but I'd also been around from the days when CT and I were both just huge fans. For a stretch in the 90's, I was his go-to "date" for some "Hollywood" stuff because he knew that I wouldn't embarrass him by fangirling on anybody - and also because we were so firmly in the friend zone that I wouldn't read anything into it and think I was going to end up being Mrs. Tucker. When Magic Johnson opened his theatre, there was a huge party - not that either one of us expected it to be a big deal because we regretted stuffing our faces with Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles earlier that day (the food at the party was insane and we just didn’t have room to partake of any of it; those Roscoe's waffles really do swell up like sponges lol) before changing clothes (sexy girly stuff and no more combat boots for me lol; I'm straight and didn't mind that look on occasion. It just wasn't particularly comfortable day in/day out for a lifelong tomboy) and meeting back up. And the security was ridonkulous. CT had to show his ID THREE different times before we even got out of the car (I was just his +1, so nobody cared about mine lol). We joked that they must be expecting the president, which is kinda ironic since Clinton was the president at the time lol. Anyhoo, we eventually figured out that the security was because MJ was stashed in one of the 16 or so theatres - and CT was determined to find him. We started poking our heads here and there, but we came up empty. When MJ finally emerged at some point to join Magic and say a few words, CT grabbed my wrist and dragged me through the crowd saying, "I've got to see this MF up close" lol. So it was still kinda odd to go from that to the quote about where to spend the weekend.) I took it in stride when CT made the suggestion because, as I said, his plans could change with no warning at all - and he also told me that I couldn't tell anybody - so I tried not to think about it too much. When the day finally came, he just told me to meet him at his house and that we'd go from there. I still wasn't believing it 100%, but off I went. When I got to CT's house, there was a huge bus parked in front of it (like a band tour bus), so it was starting to get more real; I knew we were going SOMEWHERE within driving distance. Inside CT's house, I was surprised to find three kids: Davellin, 16, Gavin, 13, and Star, 12. I had no idea who these kids were to CT or why he was taking them with us to Neverland, but I'd find out soon enough. CT's assistant and his assistant's little brother were going too. I was kinda in my own world for the almost 3 hour drive to the Santa Ynez Valley, and kinda dumbstruck when we finally pulled through the gates of Neverland. I was actually there. I saw my first J-5 concert when I was 4 years old, saw the Jacksons and MJ multiple times after that (even flew home from college in TN TWICE for the Bad tour because MJ got sick in November and the last two dates were rescheduled for January) - and I was about to be the man's houseguest. Holy F***!!!

@@SilmeonMusic PART THREE: Once inside the gates, there was some business to attend to before we got anywhere near the house (or the amusement park, theatre, zoo, or anything else Neverland was famous for). Someone from the guard station boarded the bus. Anyone (including CT) over 18 needed to sign an NDA before being allowed any further onto the property. Needless to say, I didn’t actually read it (who would under the circumstances? lol) so I’m just left to believe that I wasn’t supposed to talk to anyone (especially the press) about my time there (especially if anything would paint MJ in a bad light). After that, the bus went up the looooooong driveway (if you can call it that because it was more like a road) until it made a right. MJ’s house was then on the left, the guest cottages were on the right, and a fountain was right in front of us. Davellin was my roommate (we were the only two females) and everybody else bunked-in (nobody had their own room - including CT) to the rest of the cottages. In our room, Davellin (Davie) told me how they came to be on that trip with us (and I’ll try to condense it as much as possible). They met CT when they participated in a comedy workshop for kids at the Laugh Factory on the Sunset Strip. Not long after, Gavin was diagnosed with a particularly nasty form of kidney cancer and the doctors thought it would kill him. His “Make a Wish” was to meet MJ, so he did. While I personally believe that CT and MJ would have met each other eventually on their own, Gavin was the one who orchestrated their introduction, so MJ and CT’s relationship was mixed up with the Arvizos from the start; that’s why they were on that trip with us. When Gavin MIRACULOUSLY recovered (and I’m not being hyperbolic in saying that; the kid really was at death’s door), he credited his friendships with MJ and CT for giving him the strength to keep fighting. So that’s that. It turned out that MJ wasn’t in town when we arrived, and since we were only supposed to be staying for a couple days, he wouldn’t be there by the time we left either. But Prince and Paris were there, and Bigi (Blanket) too - but the world didn’t know about him yet. PART FOUR: As I said, MJ wasn’t in town, but it didn’t even matter. It was bananas just to be there. Once we were situated, Davie, Gavin and Star took me on a mini-tour - starting with the main house. I didn’t know how many times the kids had been to Neverland before, but they were certainly accustomed to having the run of the place. Because of the unusual situation of the property, nobody used the front door to the main house. The back door (closest to the pool) was our entry point, and it had a code to unlock it (which we had). MJ routinely had large groups of people out to the ranch for charity events and that was just the easiest way to keep random people from wandering through his house while also allowing his actual houseguests access to whatever they may have needed (because staff offices were between the back door and the kitchen). A chef was on duty 24/7 and each meal came with a specific themed menu (but it was just a suggestion; you could ask for anything within reason and they probably had it). If we ate in the house, it was at a normal family-sized table not far from the kitchen. Also near the kitchen was a step-down den area with seating, a grand piano, and TONS of MJ’s family photos. Adjacent to that was a library filled floor to ceiling with books; I didn’t dare touch anything, but I was told that there were a LOT of first edition classics in there. Upstairs, I didn’t see any of the actual bedrooms, but the kids’ playroom was adorable, and the room set up for homeschooling was too. (I actually ended up putting Grace, the nanny, on the phone with a friend of mine who had to start homeschooling her little brother when he became ill, and she gave Grace the blueprint for how to get started for Prince beginning kindergarten in the fall). Next to the main house (connected but with different entrances) were the video library (each cottage still had a VCR and Neverland basically had its own Blockbuster in case guests wanted to watch something), MJ’s dance space (where you could LITERALLY see where he’d worn away the top surface of the floor practicing spins in front of the mirror), and the fire station (yep, Neverland had its own fire truck). I can’t remember when or where I met Prince and Paris, but I’m pretty sure it was the first day. EDIT: Someone else asked first, so scroll up in the replies if you missed the first two parts.

You forgot to mention that she allegedly watched the leaving neverland documentary first on David Geffen's yacht on her birthday. It's been suggested also that she focused on Michael because her friend Harvey Weinstein add a documentary about him coming out that was going to be making a rounds at film festival. I read that Weinstein I had a habit of trying to take the public's attention away from him by having the press focus on other individuals like Michael Jackson. So it's very possible that between weinstein, Oprah, Geffen, and whoever else, that this was planned. And if you watch her interview with the accusers on after leaving Neverland, you can see that some of the stories and things they shared don't make sense to her, but she is invested too much in doing this so she tries to help them along.

A number of things I have come to realize. Number 1) Some people are meant to be your close friends, but not all close friends are the best advisors for you. Sorry to say, Elizabeth Taylor may have been one of MJ's closest friends who stood by him through thick and thin, BUT to me it seems she influenced him on making the worst decisions ever! Starting with encouraging him to do that first interview with Oprah. Larry King would have done a far better job, blunt while being respectful. And what's sad is am pretty sure one of the reasons MJ gave Oprah that interview was to help a fellow African American succeed, witch (pun intended) she most certainly did not deserve. It was also through Elizabeth that MJ met David Geffen (I encourage y'all to read up on Donna Summer's downfall and who was behind it, then contrast that with what happened to MJ's career. His troubles started the second he started listening to that creep and his minions). He also met Dr. Klein and Debbie Rowe through Elizabeth, pretty sure he would have faired better without those two in his life! 2) I fail to understand why some members of the Jackson family allowed to be interviewed by Oprah, like seriously?!? 3) I wish someone had the foresight to encourage MJ to be interviewed either in Japan or South Africa by one of their popular reporters. You go where you're treated the best and respected and that was definitely not the US, UK, Australia where the media was brutal towards MJ and constantly ridiculed him. I remember growing up in East Africa, we love MJ and the things media was saying about him involving his skin, nose and sexuality were not relevant - we simply loved his talent, compassion, generosity and smile. Western media was hellbent on destroying him and still are.

Michael told my cousin this story about Oprah. After their 1993 interview, where Michael said that he was a gentleman and that he didn't talk about whom he slept with, Oprah pressed him on one issue, when the cameras were not rolling and nobody was around. She asked Michael if he were gay. "No", he told her. "Really?" , she asked. "No. I'm heterosexual. I'm straight". "Really?", she asked him again, seemingly incredulously and definitely intrigued. "Really", he said again. She challenged him to prove it. Do you think that Michael Jackson was up to such a challenge? Well, he did prove it to her, in the most definite and ultimate way that a man can prove such a thing to a curious woman who seemingly had to know. Now, this story was allegedly told to my cousin by Michael himself in 2001, and she repeated it to me not long afterwards. If it is true, then perhaps only Oprah knows for sure, but I doubt that she'll ever admit it publicly. Maybe she told Lisa Marie. Sleeping with interviewees might not be seen as ethical for an "unbiased journalist".
