The main problem with keeping neat and extensive files on your own people is that you're one mistake away from delivering billions of dollars worth of espionage efforts to outsiders.

This is no different to any western nation's national databases. This data leaked here is not particularly centralized. It looks like the PNC in the UK.
@pudy2487

It's just booking information and crime records basically. There's not anything in there that a normal police database wouldn't have; in fact, the FBI database is almost certainly more extensive.

@@otismessingabout8468 Most of that information is critical for the functions of government and can hardly be considered within the purview of "privacy". How do you expect to get mail if the government doesn't know your address? What use is a social security number, whose sole purpose is to be a unique identifier, if there's no database to verify who it belongs to? The only data that doesn't belong in that database is perhaps phone numbers, but Chinese society is also more reliant on cell phones so I could see there being a need for it as well. There's no good reason to not want the government to have your name and address of all things.

The general population of China has incredibly high trust of their government compared to any Western country, which is why many Westerners find this so baffling. It's quite trivial to see why not even being able to trust your own government would lead to people being more concerned about privacy. I do not remember the exact statistics of the poll, but while in the USA only about 50% of respondents said they trust their government, in China the figure was 95%. This was from an independent survey unrelated to the Chinese government.

Does downloading a 500gig file vs 1gig file make it less secure no… but downloading more and more files gives you a higher chance of downloading some very suspicious yes if you want to call that less secure then yea it does. Hope this helped! :) (ps. Sorry for probably bad spelling it’s 3am rn)

If that were remotely true, endpoints would be screwed. Let's not wonder about things that are above the average commenters technical expertise. Especially when it takes no effort to poke a massive hole in your logic. You cannot seriously believe you are smarter than the community behind tor, shining light to new potential issues. What normies **need** to know when connecting to tor is already common knowledge. I also preemptively reject the notion that this is some light hearted security conversation of genuine curiosity (its not. and this would be the worst place for it) normies get out of my castle
