Crazy how good articulation and aesthetics these figs get just by hitting the sweet spot in neck and torso.
@leepicciotto4 жыл бұрын
That torso cut on the top of the abdomen does zero for the "ab" crunch. If someone wants to get more movement bending backwards then it's fine. The only thing that needs dremeling is the bottom torso/abdomen hole being drilled the way displayed. That's where all the added movement is coming from. Its good of you to show people how to easily add more articulation to McFarlane figures. I'm not trying to step on that in any way. Just trying to inform people so they don't disrupt the nice tight look of the figure for no reason. After that top hole is drilled it never looks as perfectly molded(one of the great things about this wave) again and looks a bit gappy over the abdomen

Whatever works for the client. I have had nothing but positive responses from clients for adding more range to both sections. I personally like having as much range as possible for photography as the angles can compliment the articulation. Some people are against calf cuts and some are not. For me it is all bout the client's wants.
@leepicciotto4 жыл бұрын
@@billmaru I apologize if it seemed like I was downing anything you showed or have done. I think it's great of you to make videos showing people how to do this stuff and whatever works for you personally and for your clients is obviously the right way to go. I'm a customizer as well and am a huge fan of McFarlanes lines because of it. all of the lines use the same or very similar construction which makes them interchangeable and extremely easy to modify. I was just merely pointing out something I've realized after working with his stuff so extensively. All of the crunch really does come from the bottom hole of the ab section on almost every figure from all of his more current lines. Next time you're working on one please try it before drilling out the top hole connecting the ab section to the chest and compare it with one you've drilled out both holes on. Again sorry if it came off like I'm being negative to what you do or your video, I think its great. It helps teach people and also shows something great about his releases that a lot of reviewers are overlooking.

@@leepicciotto You are totally fine. It did make me think about putting the effort into the added movement. I experimented with it this weekend and found it did give more range which I believe is great for the toy photographers. Not arguing at all. We all have different methods! No offense at all!

Hey man! Awesome job. I sold all my figures a while back, but recently got an urge to do a custom nemesis because he’s like 200 just for a loose one. I hunted around for a bit and found the kikimora head would work great for nemesis, and got Martian Manhunter, because he seemed tall and had dark pants. I’m going to sew together his clothing and paint his skin. Hoping the head will fit the ball joint on the Martian man hunter figure. I tried customizing a waist and accidentally made the hole too big sadly. Hoping it goes right for my Nemesis. Great work and thanks for sharing your technique

I’m about to do this to a Batman. But I’m worried about the ball joint not being tight enough afterwards.are you not dremeling all the way into the main holes. I’m going for the crunch range of Batfleck (mcfarlane) to do the same to fondjoy Batfleck because it has terrible ab crunch.

Does the neck modification work on figures like the fox x-marvel legends or retro spider-man? Just asking because I know those figures have longer neck pegs

I don't believe it would due to the build of the articulation. This mod works with the barbell system. It would work on old DCUC figures.

@22626064 жыл бұрын
thank you for these videos!!! very educational and happy to learn something new for this hobby. Do you know how to tight the mid section articulation on the MOTUC figures or super 7 figures ? this is the most difficult area for me to find one good solution other than dropping super glue
@billmaru4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words AND the questions! I would have to look into the figures. Are you referring to the ab crunch area? If so then you can tighten them with superglue. There are "precision" tips you can buy for super glue bottles. This allows you to insert it near the peg base and add a little glue. You then constantly move the section so that it won't allow the glue to bond but it will dry, expand, and make the joint tighter. If it isn't to your liking then try it again. Just use a tiny bit at a time and take your time!
@22626064 жыл бұрын
@@billmaru thanks bro! i will take your advise and maybe I'll try again with a better kind of superglue. I did a mutant leader (from Mattel 's TDKR wave) and it worked for some time but then again it became loose again...

Very nice work, thanks for share your knowledge, is there any way to add range of motion but preventing that the ball joint pops out easily? I mean give the figure the necessary range for dynamic poses but not worrying about that the figure disassemble in your hands
@billmaru4 жыл бұрын
You have to apply a good amount of pressure for the ball to pop out but you could lace the ball in superglue and either A. Insert it and move it while the glue dries COMPLETELY or B. Lace the ball on na even layer of superglue and wait for it to dry. Then heat up the cavity and insert it. If it still pops out then repeat the process until it no longer comes out on its own. I personally would rather have a joint pop out with added pressure than the peg snapping on me. Good luck!
@cristianmonroyreyes18344 жыл бұрын
Billy Mahoney thanks for the advice, I asked specifically for that because I love figures with an excellent range of motion for dynamic poses like you said keeping the line of design and sculpt of the figure, because I think we always try to recreate a comic cover o something like that, but I also like the fact that the figure feels solid in my hands, not a piece of plastic that’s going to crumble at the minimum extreme pose, sir, you are a master, thanks a lot!

I noticed that some of the figures have a longer thigh hole to give the peg a bit of space for thigh/hip drop down, I debated shortening my thigh pegs to prevent the pieces from separating because of it. It’s annoying having to constantly push down the top portion to fix the gap. 🤣🤣
