One of the best train layouts and trains I have ever seen.
@tmotorman7 жыл бұрын
Thatta Boy Bill!! You've displayed (what was) the greatest train in the west! My all time favorite. Been to California 2 or 3 times to see it going over Tehachapi. Last time I was there I didn't even know it was ending very soon after. Caught loads out and empties returning throughout the same day. Once, I followed it upgrade from Caliente, through Woodford and on up to the loop. When at the loop, it had to take the siding (Walong). When the train slowly came to a stop I was trackside taking it all in on film. The engineer saw me and tossed something out the window. Moments later a very long Santa Fe freight came downhill. It was unbelievable! It had 9 engines on the point, a couple were even the F-45's. Moments later the train even revealed a set of mid train helpers. Well, after the Santa Fe freight was clear, the Tank Train quickly throttled up and headed out of the siding. After the rear cans cleared the switch, I walked over to where the engineer threw that item out the window. All I could see is that it was something white and wrapped in plastic. I picked it up and saw it was a "crew pack" it said on the label, with the scarlet red and yellow SP setting sun emblem on it. Guess the engineer was giving me a little souvegnier for chasing him all the way from Caliente! I still have it today. Of course! Got another interesting story about the "Athearn TANK TRAIN" car too!

Thanks for the fascinating story. Did you ever post any of the footage you shot on KZbin? If so, I would love to see a link to it posted here.
@tmotorman7 жыл бұрын
No, never did. At least not at this point. It was shot on VHS back in 1998, if i remember correctly. Not 100% sure how to accomplish that right now. But it's a great idea! I've seen other video of similar encounters on You Tube but actually think mine might be better. It was very fast paced and non stop action. At this point I haven't posted anything on the tube.

The No1, best model railroad video in HO on the net, in my opinion. I keep coming back to this. OUTSTANDING. Period! Try matching this. Fantabulousssss!
@jalbhagwagar33534 жыл бұрын
I cant get over this video. CMRM is run like a professional railway. The smoothness of operations is so prototypical. I have seen some wonderful layouts, but, when their trains run, there's wobbling of cars and stuttering of the trains due to electrical problems and kills the show there and then, giving it a toy-like feel. Not so on this layout. Running humungous, even monster trains just like the real thing, takes my breath away. in this particular video, I just love to see the auto-racks overtaking the oil cans and then the oil cans moving on. Prototypical! Even the trona hopper train in the opposing direction is a hit. You guys are my own No.1. Beauty and difficult technicals, running all taken care of: first class. Impeccable. Allagash comes a very close second. Based on what Ive seen of course. There must be many more geniuses that I haven't seen and my respects to them. Thanks a ton.

We run the oil cans on the La Mesa Club's layout occasionally. At least one of our members owns a set of oil cans, and visiting modelers come by once in a while. Keeping a train that size in operating mechanical condition is a big job!

Outstanding model railroad. I also compliment the videography: one of the reasons I watch is to figure out "How did Bill get that shot?" Reading the comments there is a dolly. I knew it had to be that or an amazing drone that was quiet and not kicking up the air, dust and scenery.
@billr9917 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ted. We have talked about using a drone, but the consensus is that we don't want to risk crashing and damaging the scenery or structures.

I watched the entire video, 35 minutes of my life that were very enjoyable. I must say that either I have something wrong with me or I am a Train Enthusiast..., I grew up riding trains from Denver to Ohio, always have loved them, loved the smell, love the motion and action of their movements. I was very impressed with the length of the one SP train, the one with the 9 engines. Is that actual, I mean is that a true representation of a train pulling that many cars, with 5 engines up front and 4 engines in the middle? In any case, just being able to watch it enter one side of a mountain and travel on another level of the railway was amazing. I have subscribed and will be watching your videos from now on. Great videography, especially the view of the passing trains from a first person prospective. Thanks for sharing your guy's work.

Interesting read, I actually rode the train line to Bakersfield from Fort Hood Tx, when I was in the military. It was for a training exercise we had at the National Training Center (NTC), I, along with some other Soldiers were the guard force and road in the caboose. Which is while reading the article it was of interest to me why they eliminated the cabooses from train. Thanks for the information and knowledge.

This is likely top 5 greatest ho layouts in North America period. Been to Colorado last two winters and both times on the days y’all weren’t open and went to the rail museum and forney to see big boy 4005. Hopefully I catch y’all open one year so I can see this with my own eyes. This layout is a inspiration for all who seek to create there own model rail empires. This layout, bnsf Fall River sub, La mesa, and a couple of the Ho on30 Sierra narrow gauge layouts that are toured on a main model rail review channel are just above so many. There’s probably another 5 or so channels with personal layouts that are just as high including the guy with the 10,000 sq foot Wyoming Evanston sub layout that’s to scale mile exact
