I need to seal up a motorcycle tank (temporarily - and not for gas!) and I keep seeing American videos/forums refer to a 'toilet flapper' which I thought was just hilarious. Come to look up what they are and I think they're for chain flush systems which aren't so common anymore here in NZ. But I did find your video through searching that and it's awesome, I really enjoy learning these simple concepts all our fathers & grandfathers probably knew. Bonus is I recognised the Kinetic brand is available at Bunnings so I'll measure up my tank and head on in to look at the 'seating washers'. Thanks!

Thanks Bill! Great demonstration on how to locate the source of the leak. I didn’t even know about the seal in the cistern. I wrongly thought the running water in the bowl could be a washer in the tap that fills the cistern. I know where to start first with my troubleshooting.

If anybody wonders why it isn't working - notice that there is a raised section on the inner ring of the washer. This should be facing UP when you put the washer on, as in the ridge faces upward toward the flush buttons. Once I figured this part out it worked perfectly!

Bill, great video thanks. My problem is getting to the washer as the cistern is old and the back pieces won’t slide out. I’m afraid to use too much force as it may break the plastic fittings. Any advice on how to tr6 to make it easier, or can I buy a replacement unit if I snap the fittings?
@Mike-me3sp3 жыл бұрын
Question: the surface that the seal sits against (on the plunger side where you seated the new seal) has like 6 little raised ridges on it equally spaced around the circle. I noticed it on mine too when I took it apart. That just seems like it would be counter-productive to a good seal. Any idea what they're for? Thanks for the good straight-to-the-point video. No waffling makes a nice change!
@dennispetrovic84662 жыл бұрын

Hi Bill, great work, love what you do. I cant get the new seal on, it has the exact same diameter as the old removed seal, though I noticed that the seals are a lot smaller compared to the ring that it goes on but it's the same size as the removed seal, any suggestions aside from getting a bigger seal?
