I used my blow dryer and removed the tint on 2 very larger windows in about 5 minutes!! Thank you!!

Got the heat gun...didn't get it off in one piece but you saved me hours of work...thanks

Possibly a more difficult technique than some to get right, but once you get it right, it's very very productive and very very fast. I've got all the tools required for exactly this technique, my only concern is that the tint is about 45 years old and may not have the same enthusiasm for detaching from the glass, ? very best wishes John, Perth Western Australia

Thanks Bill. Just successfully removed some tint after watching your video. Happened to have a heat gun out in the garage so that was handy! I had 4 pieces to remove. 2 were ultra cheap stuff from eBay that I bought just to experiment with how dark I wanted it. The other 2 were the better quality darker one that I ended up using on my front windows. What a difference! The better quality film easily came off in one piece just like yours. The really cheap stuff was a nightmare and kept breaking, so in the end I had to warm a bit then scrape the film off with the razor. Warm, scrape, warm, scrape. Ugh. Got it done in the end though 😊

Thanks for this. We made a mess of our window using a cheap steamer.

Was just about to change over the tinting on a afternoon sun drenched window, good timing! In the next vid, can you maybe suggest some good/strong tint brands?

Really informative thanks Bill! Looking forward to the next video as I just don’t apply it as clean as I’d like. Can you share what you would charge to remove and apply new film?

+ floor steamer will do - Karcher SC3 + plastic razor blade > start with a corner edge > two layers of film, if you can just remove the tinting later, much easier and just glides off. This will leave the base/security layer which is see through. From my experience about 80% of the time you get lucky and just the outer layer comes off only with no further steaming necessary. If both layers come away then keep steaming and pull the sheet once you have enough to have a good hold of the film

are you recommending to de lamb the film and just leave a layer on there on every video? are you serious?

I watched this after watching the tinting video. now, I'm on the the other side of the world of you mate. ( its normally allot colder here than at your place) so, removing tints is not that easy.. tip 1. get a scraper, (new knife) with a long handle and apply elbow greeze. srrry, all that glue will stick to the window..... 2. have another scraper that is wide and use (water and dish soap solution) .. same as when applying a new film.... (1 teaspoon vs 1 liter of water .. aprox) apply this on the window and scrape of the glue. easy.. but it's work.. . 3. third step is that you have a clean window, and either you apply a new set of film or don't ;) ps. having allot of paper towels will help.

Can you use a hairdryer if you don’t have a heat gun? I see that someone else asked the same thing 8 months ago, but no response, so I will try it out and come back with the results. I’m sure it will help someone else.

Have 30+ year old mirror tint on house windows using heatgun but coming off in strips leaving glue
@Danger_Mouse_004 жыл бұрын
1st it will make life easier to start peeling off the tint from the top and pull down. 2nd the abrasive/glue becomes softened when heat is applied. This is why it becomes easy to gradually peel off. Tip when applying tint or decals etc is use a few drop of detergent mixed in a spay bottle full of water. Spray the surface with a slightly soapy mist and then when you apply to tint, decals etc you can position it correctly as it will slide due to soapy water. Let it be after 48 hours for it to settle and squeegee any bubbles out to the edge.
