Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, if you are in a position to, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL videos (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

So basically, the sentence *clean up the school papers and take off* is a hand-twister. Is that right?!

Dr. Vicars, I am enjoying learning and sharpening my ASL receptive skills. I also punched 3 pairs of leggings. I wear them as a Pilates Instructor, and the words are perfect. Intense, Extreme and Focused. I cue many exercise with that emphasis. Most importantly, I donated to you in the hopes you continue your valuable work in the instructing of this beautiful and vital language. You are a very gifted Doctor of Language Arts and Communication. Sincerely and Respectfully, Charletha Tatum

Charletha, Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate it. Plus, as a teacher, I'm very pleased to know that those leggings are on the legs of an instructor! Ha! That's great!

The sentences help SO MUCH. Until you asked, "How many pages is your resume?" I was reading it as resume- return to. Does that fit the topic as well, eh maybe not, but I did need to keep pausing and resuming for interruptions, so even after first practicing the vocab list I guess that's were my "head was.". Haha. Ty for the great lessons! Time for me to clean up my school papers and take off!

I feel the sign "you are/ you were" also used as "yourself" could have had come a little earlier like lesson 5-7, by now I am too used to pointing you and familiar with yourself, though the other 2 terms "your are/you were", learning now. Just my thought, thanks anyway, you guys rock 👌

I think that's because using "SELF" is less of a "to be" as it is like emphasizing the adjective or state; there is no copula in ASL, so usually just using the pronoun implies being. I remember in the first set of lessons there was one sentence where in English, "Name something that's black and white." in ASL was "NAME SOMETHING ITSELF BLACK WHITE" and it seemed like using "ITSELF" was useful to emphasize explicitly that the thing that will be named is black and white. I could totally be thinking of it wrong but just a thought lol

Can "fail" (in the sense of "I failed at a task") be a directional sign? Might you EVER move the dominant hand "K" shape TOWARDS your body rather than away? If yes, when?
@sign-language
@sign-language 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm with language I generally "never say never" -- but the FAIL sign (K hand version that slides forward across the upward facing non-dominant palm) is typically considered a "plain" verb (not an indicating verb). I personally never sign FAIL-at-a-task toward my body. F-on-a-report-card -- that one moves back toward the non-dominant upright forward facing palm.

Do some older people sign "few" with a f coming off the tip of the nose?
@sign-language
@sign-language 7 жыл бұрын
An "F" at the nose tends to have the meaning of "soon." You will also see the "F" at the chin to mean "soon" (or if done firmly on the chin it can mean "expert"). If the "F" comes off the nose and then downward with a quick motion it is probably being used to mean "not far." Sure, you may indeed see certain people using an "F" on the nose to mean "few" but it isn't a version that I would teach my students. I could see perhaps someone signing the "F" on the nose as part of a phrase (with other signs) to the effect of "soon, just a few minutes."
