Hello ASL Heroes!!! If you’ve enjoyed these lessons or videos you are invited to help support ASL University. A donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for the ASL University website: Lifeprint.com. There's an easy way you can help out your humble (as well as kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher. Just click on the Paypal (donation) link below and you can be an "above and beyond" ASL Hero! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill ========================== p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and my best to you all. :)

For those wondering at 40:40 Or so he asks her what her favorite book is and she responds US Magazine but she spells it incorrectly then corrects herself. So he reiterates the finger spelling properly and shows the sign for magazine.

I didn't name a specific book. Rather I indicated that I like many different books and particularly books by the author "Robert Fulghum." In that particular scene, the trick to catching "my" fingerspelling is to watch Katelyn mirroring me. The camera angle on her hand is better and she is holding her letters in place longer. Those early videos were never actually intended for external publication. It was an afterthought. Wish I could time travel and re-do them with closeups and high-resolution recording. Oh well. Onward and upward.

@@sign-language Thank you for the explanation and being so humble. I'm going through your apple ebook lesson 1-15 and found the videos here very helpful. I know they are the same in the ebook but having them on KZbin is extra helpful as I can watch them on my bigger monitor screens!

I love these videos! I just wish you all would either sign slower, or get a camera with higher FPS. The camera makes a lot of the signs choppy and hard to decipher. Thank you for all your work though! I am learning so much!

Thank you so much for these videos! I'm a hearing person who has always loved to learn languages and ASL is a beautiful one I'm also teaching my students some of the signs I'm learning as I learn them too. It's been a great way to keep them quieter on the bus ride lol

Love the videos! I learned ASL when I was younger, but have forgotten most of it by now (LOL). So it's so nice with videos like this when you want to brush up on old knowledge! The only thing I have some problems with is when you're fingerspelling towards her because it's hard to see from the camera angle, I don't know if the later videos is better, but keep up the good work anyway! :D A bit unfortunate that I'm not from America though xD because my friends use Norwegian Sign Language and there are no good videos like this in that language.

This and lesson 9 is where I start to get lost. Lot of stuff being signed I'm not sure of, and too rapidly. That, and the video comes across blurry often.

I have the same problem! My solution was to go to their website (lifeprint.com) and click on the lesson. I first learn all the signs that will be seen in that lesson and I see them separate from each other and signed without blurriness, then I go watch the video. If anything is too fast I slow the video down to *0.25. Always does the trick. For the blurriness I can usually guess the word by the way he starts signing it because I’ve already seen the signs on the website. Better camera quality would help but I’m just so glad they’re putting out these videos. Good luck signing!

With over 100,000 subscribers -- my speed will never be "just right" for everyone. In the videos I'm aiming my speed to be just right for my current student assistant who is, in fact, a real student. Thus all the people who are slower and/or faster than my current student will feel that I'm either going too fast or too slow. Tips for your consideration: 1. Go to Lifeprint.com and review the lesson vocabulary prior to watching the video. 2. Use a browser that provides a gear icon in the video player that offers "speed controls" and watch the video at a slower speed. 3. Use a keyboard and tap the space bar then use your arrow keys to jump back or forward 10 seconds and/or use your "comma" key to go back a frame and your "period" key to go forward a frame at a time. If fingerspelling is a challenge for you, consider going to my video list and searching for some of the fingerspelling practice videos: kzbin.infovideos Or see the playlist at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJKUknSOpbulaNk For what it is worth: The original video series with Katelyn was not intended for public viewing but rather as part of an in-studio ASL hybrid course for an in-person audience. The videos were posted as "review" for those who were in the class. Later videos were created with better angles, higher resolution, and more emphasis on serving the "internet audience" (distance education students). Please know: I value the opinion of every student and am shaped by the overall feedback I receive. Thus I consider your comment as "one vote" for slowing down. Thanks - Dr. Bill Lifeprint.com

He was talking about placement as you talk to people of mention them. Bob's on one side and Johns on the other. They are in different placements as he talks or even if he were tell someone about meeting Bob and John, their placement would be the same in relationship to him. You have 2 "he's" and you have to differentiate them in your sign space. I could be way wrong but I think that's what he was saying. It's a bit hard to see.

Hi Dr. Bill Vicars! I love watching your ASL videos I started learning about 3 weeks ago! I am a hearing person but I am very interested in ASL. You make the classes a lot of fun and interesting to learn! I really appreciate you and you also make me laugh a lot! Makes it easier to learn so I have a question! It is about grammar that is the hardest part for me to learn it! On this question you used 14. YOU GO ASL CLASS what time? Can you also sign ASL class you go what time? Thank you so much! :) in advance.
