Such important advice. Knowing that you as a drummer are the one leading the other musicians, assert that dominance but be receptive and aware of your surroundings. Chemistry really is key.

an immature musician will not appreciate this advice I grew up playing improv and that summed it up well. sometimes the simplest explanation is the best

as a guitarist, I feel some drummers and bassists really dont get that, they're just playing basic stuff and keeping time and they dont understand how much they lead guitarists and singers along, jsut by the feel they create. I play with a band and I notice it the whole time, they dont get that somethings end up sounding the same just because of these little touches and details that move everything along. The rhythm section literally draws out riffs from other instruments. if they know what theyre going for they will draw it out

Actually, anyone musician can be the band leader. It needn't be the drummer, and the drummer needn't be the one everyone turns to to find where they're at.
