@@LeshaAnn Politicians on either side have fucked us over in all kinds of ways. I know liberals who hate Democrat politicians. I know conservatives who hate republican politicians. A fair amount of conservatives also vote for democrats in some instances. The real reason people vote for one side or the other, is not because they are in support for one particular side, but rather, it's because they see that side as the lesser of two evils at the time. The point is, politicians lack empathy. They don't give a shit about you or the issues they're voting for. Not even the democrats. They're snakes and conmen just like the republicans. But the people, no matter what side they are on, as long as it's not an extreme, often do. Maybe you spend too much time on the internet and are too scared of someone because they're on a side that you disagree with, and that's why you don't realize that anyone can have empathy, no matter their politics. These politicians only care about money and there is a concerted effort to fuck over the people. It comes from both sides. They have all been bought by corporations and private interests. You're a fool to think that any democrat or republican is on your side. You should stop blindly believing in the narrative of your political party (same goes for any of you trumpsters out there) and know who your real enemy is. It's not the conservative next door who votes differently than you. Here's an interesting quote about fascism, by a fascist. Who better to speak on the issue? “Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” - Benito Mussolini

I also understand that Obama among many others has failed with inequalities, inefficiency and corruption. Still, I won't trade business as usual for an extreme either Paul or Kucinich. As an independent, I support moderates not a liberal or conservative. BOTH are responsible for this mess. Paul, if not for himself, can't do anything for you. But it really matters little, just as much as his career did. I'm glad you support Paul, but come January 20, 2013, tell me how that went for you.

Mr. Paul says that hospitals should not be forced to help people who have no insurance, meaning let people die on street corners. Under Paul, if you couldn't pay for a needed medical procedure, Paul would tell you, "Go hang." How moral. The government should not obscure the responsibility of the citizen or not require something including expectations of welfare recipients but the idea that the government on no level has any responsibility towards its citizens is not only immoral but cruel.

I would argue that state and federal government also play a part in keeping children safe along with parents. What kind of govt does nothing to help parents protect their children from online predators? Charity and help are two different things. Giving something with an expectation is not charity. Currently, govt doesn't expect much but it doesn't mean they should do absolutely nothing. I believe public school unions should be challenged and the education system be redone completely.

If you're going to use drugs for comparison, use one actually comparable to illicit drugs. Tobacco doesn't send people on binges, make them sit at home and do nothing or cause them to overdose. Also, cigarettes have always been legal and have had spikes in usage throughout time. In the 1950s, doctors & priest smoked publicly. Usage goes down in 2012. Okay. So why wouldn't drug usage be high for 20 or 30 years and go down later like cigarettes or still be popular like alcohol?

Backwards talk again: More individual freedom but parents are responsible. Libertarians are anarchists who just don't know it yet. Unstrained and socially unconscious personal freedom leads to social anarchy. Also, most Americans rarely exercise their right to be informed about consequences while libertarians clearly are not concerned with effects of any kind. Taxing of socially irresponsible behavior only results in the use of such taxes funds to curb said behavior becoming self-defeating.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
I don't like either but both clearly articulate their social conservatism without double-talk or illusions about the intended effects even though I disagree. Libertarians have this view that we can do whatever with a survival of the fittest attitude and that won't adversely effect society at all. They disregard the true effect on their beliefs on society as a whole. That's were I agree with Santorum on his criticism of libertarianism though I think his extent is too far.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
This is what I mean by consistent. Johnson believes in personal freedom and supports same sex marriage across the boards. Paul says he supports personal freedom but is personally against same sex marriage, but then wants to give gays "civil unions" which has the "same meaning" implying that Paul worries more about language than meaning, which either makes him a hypocrite or someone with no substance. Johnson lacks that inconsistency, fork-tongue talk and emphasis on language rather than spirit.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
We are a society that mixes capitalism and DEMOCRATIC socialism. A fair balance isn't a bad thing. But both things by themselves in pure form are not always good for all members of society. Government may not have common sense or intelligent decency as it stands but to replace that with no decency and zero empathy is no suitable replacement. And "do whatever you will and whatever happens we care nothing about" makes no common sense either. That's like an absentee father.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
If your actions hit you fine but when society pays, that's not fine. Having a society of junkies, molested children, dead uninsured and ignored minorities with no govt structure is not helpful to society in anyway. How can you on one hand tell people it's okay to get addicted and then come to us to be rehabilitated for a little while later and then we'll do the cycle over again? This idea that people do whatever ignores the law of unintended consequences for which our society will pay dearly.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
You can't advocate personal freedom-based libertarianism, then believe that same-sex marriage should be prohibited while state governments should have the right to enforce sodomy laws, allowing law enforcement to prohibit private consensual sexual practices. You can't be about the safety of the country and want to defederalize airport security as if it would be harder to infiltrate private sector security as opposed to federally-regulated security
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
He tells parents that it is totally their responsibility to protect their children from internet predators and the government should have no role in helping to protect its citizens from these threats. What kind of moral mans believes healthcare isn't a right? Or that federal student loans and scholarships should be oblished. Or who at one time believed public schools should be abolished.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
You have the option to pray in school. No teacher or administration can deny any child the right to pray by themselves or with others. The push for prayer in schools is another way to subject everyone to Christian values. Paul may not be KKK but he has no pulse or interest in healing racial issues in this country. In fact, he denies they exist. In truth, the KKK would be better because we'd exactly where he stood and what he'd do.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
Under Paul, we'd pay no income taxes and the federal government wouldn't exist. He is also morally contradictory. He'll force kids to pray in school but right after, they'll come home to their parents face deep in cocaine and a room of smoke all the while the state manages poor society's various addictions. Isn't that welfare of another kind? And of course, he sees no long term ramifications of this.

I think we were fucked from the beginning. If you build a nation on hypocrisies, half-truths and dreams, then 224 years after adopting the first form of our constitution, you're bound to have more hypocrisies, half-truths and dreams. The issue is that the nation as a whole won't do what is required to change that, and whether we'll admit it or not, there are absolutely no political figures adept or honorable enough to lead the charge. Not one.

Corgan is the smartest rock and roll musician alive. He did everything except mention the word "libertarian," but what he said was philosophically correct. I love that he pointed out that Obama did not deliver on the moral social tolerance promises of his campaigning. I'd like to see Corgan himself run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, and then help organize at the State Legislative level in low population states. He has the money to accomplish that, if he does it right. (If it's done wrong, no amount of money would be enough, if it's done right, it's physically possible.) In any case, everyone needs to read about jury nullification of law: that's what individuals can do to defeat drug prohibition and other "mala prohibita" laws.

Of course, you have the stink of government-schooling on everything you wrote (the absence of any consistent high-level philosophy). People who don't contradict themselves (in spite of being trained to contradict themselves) reveal clues about how consistent their thinking is. This is what Corgan did with his statements, which were admittedly indeterminate (though not self-contradictory). He left himself "wiggle room." However, they didn't have the stink of being anti-liberty, nor "anti-liberty-by-default." Being consistently moral (defending social tolerance) actually does imply libertarianism, although that term may have been poorly-defined to you, so you may not fully comprehend its implications. No, scratch that, you definitely don't understand its implications, as you've made completely clear. In closing I should note that I don't need any more blather that repeats the government line of freshman year "Social Studies" on my feed.

That's a good point, but I would agree with Billy. When politicians make promises and promote their plan for office, you have to trust that they will act with that in mind. A lot of the time, however, they make the speeches and then abandon them once the elections are over. So, it may not necessarily be about a president defining morality as much as governing with a strong set of principles that results in their political promises becoming reality.

Let's divorce legality from drug use. People use drugs to treat pain. If it's legal, it's more accessible and children may be exposed to it by their parents, and child welfare could do anything. To do drugs is a personal choice but no personal choice should pose a social threat to a child or society, which drugs undoubtedly do. Civil unions is not equal treatment. Paul was the father of the Tea Party! This fight has been going on since Goldwater & Rockefeller, conservative vs establishment. We are just now more angry then ever before!

Free flow of all drugs into homes threatening families. If they legalize drugs does that mean you are going to do them or your children?? NOOO it doesn't so you have no point as it is a PERSONAL Choice. People are doing drugs if they are legal or not sometimes causing harm sometimes not! If you cause your children harm by doing drugs just like with alchohol you will pay a CONSEQUENCE for your action. Yes redefining a word is unneccessary if all gays want is equal treatment!

Go to a big city housing project, then tell me about no direct harm to those around. Drug murders are morally wrong but so is profiting on the pain of individuals, broken families and morally bankrupted children who will be addressed with a welfare system funded by tax money of non-drug users to manage their addiction cycles, mental illness and poverty. I'd be more supportive if drugs were legalized with no taxes. A blood diamond brought knowingly puts blood on the buyer and seller. Drugs too.

Libertarians are humanitarians & believe denying an individuals god given liberties is only going to bring about a negative reaction on those imposing their will or view of morality over them! Santorum wants to illegalize internet porn!! Do you really believe people are going to stop seeking it if it is made illegal?? Though I believe porn is a horrible industry the consequence from denying it to those who like it would be more devastating.
@joe03512 жыл бұрын
No that is the credo of an anarchist not a libertarian. Libertarians believe in more individual freedoms & less govt NOT no govt! Parents should be held accountable for their drug use & implications of it to others just like a drunk driver. Again I am not advocating people do drugs only those who choose to be educted as to the effects & consequences as only will happen if it is taxed & made legal.

If jail isn't discouraging why is money? Legalizing drugs will only lead to a rehab system that will manage addictions, not stop them. Some will quit only due to inner strength but many won't, especially when nothing and no one legally stop them. Many rehabs are funded by hospitals or govt who will sink money into managing addictions rather than put the resources to more needed uses with better prognosis for success and productive outcomes from patients. Great.

And if jail isn't discouraging why is money? If you legalize drugs, all you'll end up doing is creating a rehab system that will manage addictions, not stop them. Some will quit because of inner strength but a lot won't, particularly when nothing and no one can legally stop them. And many rehab facilities are funded with govt funds or by hospitals who will sink millions of dollars to manage addictions rather than put it to places where there is more needed use and likelihood for success. Great.

Cause it's morally irreprehensible for govt to profit off drug sales, thereby approving of behavior detrimental to children, family and society. I'd no longer vote, support or contribute to govt at any level as I don't willingly support drug dealers and govt cartel members with a "If you can't beat'em, join'em attitude." Drug policy does need change but that kind of change is sickening to me. I know this change will take place, which makes me more cynical and hopeless about this world.
@joe03512 жыл бұрын
Will you do drugs if they legalize it?? Would you try meth if it came in a wrapper saying 99% addictive with a persons face with decaying teeth on it? Fewer people are smoking, & their isn't much of a black market for it either. Tax revenue from those who do smoke fund rehabilitation & antiuse instead of tax money that was supposed to be used for something else as we now do with drugs.
@joe03512 жыл бұрын
Society is paying now! Legalizing drugs would ELIMINATE drug related murders, robbery & existance of gangs entirely! Tax money pays for rehab & cops! We have a society of junkies now, why not educate them on a wrapper what it is theyre about to put into their body? We could tax this new industry & use the funds to help these idiots who are going to do drugs regardless of the consequences as OVERCROWDED PRISONS have demonstrated. Govt has made people to become more dependant not Independant!
@joe03512 жыл бұрын
Who is Paul or you to dictate what is moral! Free will & an individuals right to choose right or wrong & pay the consequences personally is what he advocates. If we educate people on the drug they are using stop making it taboo we would eliminate all drug gangs & killings related to them. Our prisons are maxed out because we cannot afford to keep housing people for doing drugs or related crimes! We would have a taxable industry instead of one we spend billions rehabilitating & policing!

Paul said Govt has no place in ANYONES marriage & said call it a civil union with all the same legal rights as it makes no sense to change the definition of a word to accomadate a minority & offend the majority! Santorum wanted to outlaw internet Porn not Paul LOL. Private Security is better then Federal look at Sanfrancisco its airports are private security has best rating nationally in security & public service!

In the private sector businessman must adhere to the laws created by govt & still function in a manner that sustains company growth or goes out of biz. In govt they make up their own rules & never create anything that is sustainable as there is no consequence for failure. Politicians most of which are attorneys are so much better at running things?? Biz has to be competetive in service & product oir it loses customers to competition, govt has no consequence just more debt creation for us.
@Exilewilliams12 жыл бұрын
I do not endorse government takeover of business but somethings are better not left to businessmen to run. In some cases, it would be against our best interest to leave certain things up to the "highest bidder" mentality. It's also my experience that private business runs things very shitty. Maybe not like government, but have you been to stores or businesses lately? You'll spend half the time trying not to get fucked out of your money by lying salesmen and careless employees.

Although Obama is well intentioned, he is not exactly the greatest "moral compass" you could find. No politician is. He's probably more moral than some others in his line of work including his two predecessors, but Obama has failed to be effective at uniting the nation and articulating a clear message in which he can keep the narrative his own and properly sell a defined direction to the people, which is a part of being a moral compass. He has failed to do that on many levels.

Yes the establishment will win either way, why reward bad behavior vote for their other candidate Mitt Romney! I would rather advocate for someone of character with a consistant history of honesty then one of the establishment tools like with Obama or Romney. The show is getting old more of us idealists are starting to speak out! It would seem Gary Johnson is now that candidate!

Paul's ideas cannot be achieved. His basic mantra is to the extreme. Instead of a government that does what it should, he advocates that it do next to nothing. That's not going to happen. Also, he doesn't play with others, he's a troublemaker in his own party and doesn't compromise his views, which is required in political discourse. On top of that, he's a weak candidate will little personality, poor speaking skills and complete lack of charisma. Paul is not electable. His son is, however.

Yes public unions especially the teachers unions & the idea of tenure should be abolished. This would be the most beneficial act for minorities stuck in a public school system. The kids should come first & teachers should be judged by their results not how long they've paid union dues! Incompetant whites would demonstrate its who you know rather then what.
