This is one of the best interviews with President Obama I've seen. Not only Bill's questions, but President Obama's candid answers. I didn't hear any b.s. Sure, I'm biased for him, but I didn't really hear any politics in his answers. I don't agree with all he said, but it sounds like a man doing the best he can with what he has. Which is his presidency in a nutshell.

LycanVonWolf I actually liked that answer, but then again foreign policy/the military is where I differ from a lot of my progressive friends. Agreed about the useless junk though. But that's government contracts. The government always bleeds money in everything; hence why that message plays well to the voters.

President Obama is so gracious, thoughtful, intelligent, confident, and humble. It has been great having him serve as POTUS for eight years. He and Michelle will be missed. I look forward to seeing how they will spend their time post-White House.

Unbelievable the cheerful reviews of this interview after all the terrible things Obama did and explains the reason we have the government we do by all those that swallowed the propaganda hook line and sinker even after the Princeton Study proved we have lived in an oligarchy for decades: Obama promised when running the first thing he would do is codifying Roe versus Wade and never did so Democrats could continue to run on it after 50 years of doing so. Combine that with Citigroup took more TARP money than anyone else. Obama kicked 5.1 million families out of their homes and got Wall St. to keep their bonuses. Obama adopted a right wing heath care program from the Heritage foundation that increased insurance company profits and bankrupted families. Obama dropped more bombs than Bush. Obama deported more Latinos and Bush. Obama’s drone program killed innocent people 90% of the time. Obama continued the Bush tax cuts. After 8 years of Obama and abuse from the Democratic Party, Trump was elected after making the same promises as Obama’s hope and change calling it clean the swamp.

I am conservative, so when it comes to policy, there are pronounced disagreements. But no one can ever doubt his intellect: it exudes him entirely. I respect that & I think deep down, a lot of the vitriol thrown his way comes from a place of envy.

As a member of the Liberal Enemy I applaud you for your honesty. It’s a pity so many out there on both sides, Conservative and Liberal, are unable to see past policy differences to the core of who people are. I have many times said that Lindsey Graham or John McCain are men who I disagree heartily with but who have my respect for their way of comporting themselves. I hope your attitude rubs off on others and we can get back to a place of discussion and debate in this country without all the hatred.

Well done, my friend. It takes intellect to appreciate intellect. I wish I didn't feel the need to praise you for a simple "I disagree, but respect", but it's in such short supply these days. These are depressing times, and then I'm not even an american. Even though this has escalated to new heights in the US, I can see the same tendencies of national splintering and ignorance growing over here in Europe. "This side is what I agree with, so everything and everyone on the other side must be bad, and everything on this side must be good!" is the prevailing logic. I've had this uneasy feeling around the unity of the West, and it's growing. I don't believe it's going to end well, actually.

It's the most dramatic change anyone could ever imagine. Forget about the politics, the difference in humility, intelligence, integrity, honesty, etc. almost every measurement of a person's intellect and personality is completely off the charts. I'm a poor man who works hard as a dishwasher everyday and pay my bills each month and Obama care helped me get health insurance I needed now I have glasses and It didn't cost alot of money and I get me teeth clean and my meds without paying alot of money. All thanks to Obama.

I was a powder coater who payed 450. A month but there was no way i could use my insurance. This was the problem with the affordable care act. It killed the middle class but was fine for the poor and rich. I am in awe watching two men of intellectual talk. It is a very humbling feeling. Had it not been for the AHCA my late husband and I would have been stuck with hospital bills in NC til today. Before we moved here to AZ in 2019. We had paid off what we paid from out of pocket which was less than $4,000.00.

You know that out of all the winners and losers from WWII the US is the only country that doesn’t provide medical care to its citizens. He's bombing several countries at once, the drone program he continues to support kills 90% civilians, he is aiding Saudi Arabia to the tune of billions of dollars while they destabilize and destroy the region, he has expanded the NSA far above and beyond what Dubya did, he is pushing the job-killing TPP, he made over 80% of the bush tax cuts permanent, he proposed to cut social security Didn't have to look these up. This is just an astounding interview for so many reasons. Maher asks some great questions. Obama has a sense of humour. Obama gives some thoughtful answers. And in the end, even though they have their differences, there is a level of respect and comradery between them, like strangers with different views, but who both know that they're in this thing together.

@Super Sonic Great! you had it great? So let me tell you how the world had it. Libyia, one of the most developed country in middle east destroyed. The country that distributed the wealth. If person wanted to study anywhere in the world , government would help to fund it, if people got married they received the house, every person over 18 received Universal income. Has not have civil war, was looking to make peace with the world. Country destroyed completely, ISIS was put to power, as the rebels you supported turned out to be ISIS. Then Syria, same thing, the rebels you were supplying in guns, passed it to ISIS. From regions you oversaw the trucks were transporting oil to them for ages. That is why they grew in power. And Russia showed the recording and asked what the hell are you doing? Why are you supporting rebels who in big part joined ISIS. 30 000 kids died. Big migration in Europe where people who never wanted to leave the country , had to . Often people with no language, no opportunities, mafia formed on the borders, people sold everything to get out. Went to foreign countries broken with no funds no language and no cultural understanding often. The repurcussions will be in years to come. Luckily you got Trump who also asked what the hell you are doing and this ordeal has ended. And he was not interested in starting another war in spite of obvious advice from people who have different interests. So great you feel good and lifted by nice speech of peace and unity. He is a great orator and I am sure a decent human being. But he was not competent to make these decisions. Mistakes yes, well. He did exactly the same in Syria as was mistake with Libyia. He did not learn. So do not brag how good you had it when 30 000 kids died in vain.

As a Republican, listening to Obama is so refreshing. Even when we don't agree, I can at least understand his position clearly and directly. Definitely comes across as someone you could have a respectful, rational discussion, even when you are on opposite sides of policy. Unfortunately, I don't see anyone like him in temperament in either party with any real chance making through the primaries.

Combine that with Citigroup took more TARP money than anyone else. Obama kicked 5.1 million families out of their homes and got Wall St. to keep their bonuses. Obama got AIG the insurance money so Wall St. didn’t suffer losses for their crazy derivative bets without even a haircut that was expected. Obama took us from 2 wars to 7. Obama adopted a right wing heath care program from the Heritage foundation that increased insurance company profits and bankrupted families. Obama dropped more bombs than Bush. Obama deported more Latinos and Bush. Obama’s drone program killed innocent people 90% of the time. Obama continued the Bush tax cuts. After 8 years of Obama and abuse from the Democratic Party, Trump was elected after making the same promises as Obama’s hope and change calling it clean the swamp.

I think his point is right that there is too much misinformation & people are too stressed out to get the right messages. Also, I don't think Bill Maher was staying quiet because he was in awe of his brilliance, as you implied. I think they're mostly on the same side, & Bill was just letting him speak without interrupting.

And one of the smartest things he did was to mute his intelligence so as not to scare the average dummy even more. If you read some of the things he wrote in college, he could easily have been a professor. What he learned from his mother is how to explain things to non-experts (i.e. students) without condescending, including (as we used to say) using words of one syllable or less. A difficult trick when you're that smart.

He always mentions kids and education. He seems to genuinely care about what he’s saying and how it’s received. Notice he looks at his interviewer when he makes a point. His answers are Eloquent, measured, tempered.. We need leaders like this not loose canons who think they come off as a cowboys. . Young people are frightened of what’s happening now.

Watching this for the 1st time in 2018 and it almost makes me weep to see how far the US has fallen since Trump took office. Say what you will, President Obama possesses everything you want in a leader. He's thoughtful and measured particularly when discussing sensitive issues. He's knowledgeable, compassionate, empathetic, humble, gracious and more. Try and say that about Trump without throwing up in your mouth a little.

Nice to have a President you can be proud of. People take their cues from whatever news source reinforces their beliefs, so its impossible to reason with those who have been taught to hate everything about Obama from day-1. But ultimately the day-to-day noise disappears and a President's legacy is judged on its merits. And history will judge Obama kindly because he left the country better than he found it. He will be considered a very good President. Not Mt Rushmore good, but definitely in the top 25%. And I, for one, will miss him.

Liberal Smiter Both liberals and conservatives are a threat to free speech. Liberals want to curb hate speech and force us to make our speech more in line with political correctness. Conservatives want to curb obscenity and force us to make our speech more in line with Christian family values. Donald Trump might increase freedom of speech from a religious perspective, but he will also tighten libel laws and crack down on obscenity. This will give powerful individuals more opportunity to silence what they don't like to hear and it will allow religious fundamentalists to force their Puritan standards onto the rest of the community when it comes to sexuality in media. In the end, we will not have gained any freedom of speech. Civil libertarians are true defenders of freedom of speech.

I love both Obama and Maher, and I'm very happy that they've finally met and talked about these issues and problems we still face in the Country. It's incomprehensible to me that anyone would think Obama has not been a great president, that anybody could think Trump would be a better representative and leader of this Country. Obama just oozes gravitas whenever he talks, such an intelligent and well rounded individual who clearly understands the complexity all these issues we have in this Country. In comparison, how can a simpleton narcissistic bigot like Trump get so many votes? I don't understand. Like Maher said before, "it's depressing to think that you share the Country with so many people who you share nothing with".

It had nothing to do with Hillary being a woman, if anything she got MORE support for being a woman. It had to do with Hillary simply being a bad politician, and in many ways a bad person. It also had some to do with every insulted being hurled at Trump... having been something Bill Clinton himself had already done, while Hillary stood by her man and supported him, even shaming the women that stood up for themselves. A large part of the population is tired of 'Politics as usual', and you don't get 'New Politics' by Electing the same people over and over again. Trump being Elected was a warning shot to both Dems and Reps that we're fed up, and if you don't get on our side real quick we'll vote Trump, Hasselhoff and Jenner into Office just to see your sorry asses (those Politicians) out. At the end of the day, WE the PEOPLE hold the Power. We can take every one of those Seats away. Please do remember, the Constitution itself gives us the very right to Rise Against our Government. Instead of using our Right to Bare Arms to do so (as we are given), we instead are using our VOTE to do so. It's an attempt to dismantle the system enough that they realize a Citizenry that is aware and awake can stop them, can replace them. Yeaaah I like that: such a dullard. Tremendous dullard. He has no energy. I'm the best at energy. He created Isis, we will destroy isis, we'll have a great plan. I like the poorly educated. They like me too. Have you seen these people, they're great people, i could shoot one of them and they'd still vote for me oooook? I'm the best for america. We'll make deals, you'll see. What deals? can't tell you, but they'll be tremendous, big stuff, oh yeah believe me, huuuge deals. There's illegal immigrants killing folks in this country. We'll build a wall, huge wall. No more illegal immigrants, I can tell you for sure. I know more about concrete than anyone. I have tremendous walls. I'm the best at walls. Simple solutions to complicated problems; all stuffed in short inintelligent sentences. That's how your guy speaks; if that's genius for you, your bar is pretty low.

No, Basho. It's not 50/50. According to RealClearPolitics, they take all the poll, leaning republican, democratic, and neutral, and come up with percentage points. Hillary had of 95+ % chance for much of October. Following FBI's 'intervention' in the election, that number has dropped to 70. So, with 3 days out, it's 70/30 in favor of Clinton.

This is the first time I have seen you, Bill Maher, serious in conversation. I enjoyed this program. I admire your taking on the president of the country, allegedly the most powerful person on earth. Your discussion with Obama shows he is your equal. You both have respectable ideas on the same issues, but you do it comedically, which he can't for lots of reasons. The comedy makes it much more memorable in my opinion. Having said that, I have immense respect for the both of you. I wish you both could reach more people who have the ability to understand common sense and critical thinking.

I can dig that Bill Maher is a devisive character. He's a Liberal Libertarian. I'm simply liberal-minded. Nevertheless.....unless you are Sean Hannity or Dick Chaney, you'd have to be a hard-assed hater of Democrats in general to think (after watching at least half of this video) to think that this President is evil or stupid. He's a thinker, he's open-minded, smart, aware, and seems to really like this country. Doesn't matter to me who you vote for this time. Just saying that this guy is pretty good.
