To answer Dom's question, it's surface tension. Each separate little body of water has this thing called surface tension, that in a way acts as a barrier to the world outside the drop. When that barrier is touched by another one, they merge together. I suspect that there are tiny droplets of water present, or the drops themselves are elongated enough that their respective surfaces are merging, and that merge goes all the way up into the faucet (or tap). This creates a cylindrical column of flowing water molecules, aka Dom's continuous stream of water. This is called laminar flow, and it's all due to the surface tension of the water. This is used to great effect in the animated movie, A Bug's Life.

Did anyone else pause in the last minute to immediately go and try Dom's droplet-to-stream hypothesis? It didn't work for me, stayed a droplet the whole time. I think Dom just had a leaky faucet growing up. Great episode! Adam Savage is such a genius while still being a lovely person. it was cool to learn more about his life before Mythbusters.

It's funny how Bill has the natural ability to bring Adam down to a calmer quieter level of conversation but still talk about things that excite them both. If it were only Dom, I feel like he'd amp up Adam's energy level and they'd both be riding an energy high together. Different approaches, both are good. It's a comfort to hear Adam has ADHD like I do and uses the same focus technique of ignoring the brain-noise by focusing on one thing (for me, it's artwork), and I also use music to maintain focus or spawn ideas.

I don't know how to explain the drip into a stream thing, but I kinda understand why it happens, it's about viscosity and how fluid dynamics interact with each other. Water likes to have a layer on top of it that keeps it more still, but when that layer breaks water doesn't keep still and moves very fast towards low pressure, also water follows water so it drags the rest of the water with it from within the tap. I know this video is 2 years old but I just had to leave a comment in case nobody did or in case you never found out and in case you revisit this comment section.

The reason why a drippy tap could change to a stream with your finger could be capillary action. If you think water drops on a surface beads, or in a test tube dips, whereas a liquid like blood doesn't bead. This capillary action makes it easy to siphon water. -That probably made no sense as text 😀 Love the show guys.

Appreciate Adam being humble when mentioning David Attenborough, a hero to so many, but I would love to see him make those kind of TV shows in his field. Rarely seen that kind of patient, thoughtful and passionate looks at engineering projects (or production design?), and I think he'd be great. TV bods make it happen! edit: also, whisper it, I think he might be more or less the same age that Attenborough was when he was making the likes of Life on Earth/Living Planet. Positively youthful!

Martyrs is actually a French film originally! And the skin removal thing was about them putting someone through so much pain that they might see god before death. The nefarious man is trying to find out if god is real or if it's all for nothing.

Scariest movies came from the 70s. They were less graphic, leaving more to the imagination. And I think they worked better that way. First is "The Exorcist". Second is "Black Christmas". Third is "The Sentinel". They still hold up...

I love this podcast and I’m thrilled you guys are bringing on guests that highly interest me but I don’t know why the quality has gone down. The early episodes were both Billy and Dom and then a guest in person all filmed in a studio. But now you’re both not even in the full episodes and we keep cutting to ad reads in different places and both of you aren’t even talking to the guest. Just feels like we’re jumping all over. My father wrecked film and tv for me at 5. He said never forget there are 50 people there sound fx stunt crew writers. Destroyed the A team he'd say on a cliff hanger episode. He said look in the tv magazine if it's not on next week they are FCKED.
This is great, but it would be nice Billy if the title wasn't clickbait and just said "Billy Talks to Adam Savage". Otherwise it's a straight up lie. Dom didn't talk to Adam.
