Thanks for the shootout , RJ !! These pedals are great . I just watched a video where Shane Theriot explains at the Daryl Hall gig/tvshow Billy cranks the 400hz up and everything else flat on a Boss EQ GE-7 and straight into a Magnatone Amp . When I did it with my setup , it sounded like I had a wah pedal half cocked lol . But I brought it down a bit and BAM ! It's damn close . Granted , I don't know Billy's amp settings but if you go back and listen to that episode , you can possible figure it out . HAVE MERCY !

Kickass. The chupacabra has been a permanent staple on my board for years now. Great playing as always!

If you want the Billy Gibbons sound you can get it like he did on the 90's. He used 3 (MIJ) Bixonic Expandora pedals. He set them up to use like a 3 channel amp. The pedal is unique looking in a small circular enclosure. The circuit is 2 Rat pedal circuits linked to work as one. Billie used one as a low crunch the second for crunch and the third as a lead/near Fuzz like sound.

I'm actually not all that interested about getting a "Billy Gibbons tone." I just wanted to hear the pedals and this was a fantastic rundown on both of them. Great job Mr. Ronquillo. Thanks.

Two great pedals. One great reviewer. (mic drop) 🙂 I own the Chupacabra, but I don't have a Les Paul in my arsenal. Still sorting out what it can do with single coils and this video gave me some ideas to try. Thanks RJ!

RJ-pedal-amp, the way God intended ! I get more than a little miffed when YT pedal releases show guitarist adding reverb and delay, when I want to just hear the pedal dry. RJ going balls to the walls always makes my day. 👍

Thanks for the video! And the awesome guitar work. These are both good pedals. I think it is still hard to beat a Red Llama. The Mule by Mojo Hand Pedals is one of my very favorites. And the Blue Bonnet, (3 knob) from Mojo Hand does an excellent job for some Texas sound!

On one of my boards! Awesome pedal that sounds like an amp on its own.
@Mr.D343 ай бұрын
Both are amazing pedals with little difference, especially at low gain. However, once you go full gain that's where you can really hear a difference. El Hombre sounds more compressed and Chupacabra sounds more amp-like. I usually prefer drive pedals with a tone knob for the sake of versatility but for The Reverend tone i would go with Chupacabra. It's definitely the next pedal on my list.
@GeoffByrdMusic3 ай бұрын
Yeah, both need a tone knob. I had the El Hombre and it sounded good but I struggled getting the right level of brightness and the other pedal might be even harder to dial in the tone. I went with a 5F6 pedal that had bass, mids and treble that was based on a tweed amp. Better.
@GeoffByrdMusic3 ай бұрын
How are these different from a tweed style pedal? It sounds a lot like a tweed amp to me.

I definitely need some twin sisters… the amp too 😄

Was waiting for this for sometime.i was gonna pull the trigger on the chupacabra. Seems to have a little more fuzz. But the el hombre is also good. If you could only put one on ur board which one would it be for the billy gibbons tones . Much respect from uk. 🇬🇧

This demo is a bit late for me, I got the chupacabra and wish I’d got the el hombre or the mla eliminator. For me the chupacabra needs a tone control, it is almost always darker than I want it to be!

Hi R.J ! Do you know how Gibbons managed to get his "loco" tone on "Loaded" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnu9iH2Mlr6soNU) ? Can you replicate that "on the brink of dying" type fuzz tone with the blips and coughs, with any pedal that you know ?
@dannyllerenatv86353 ай бұрын
The El-Hombre would be my choice if running into a clean amp. I'm not a fan of the way CMOS-style overdrives feel when run into a clean amp; it almost feels like they have a "dry crunch" to them. However, CMOS-style drives sound magical when ran into an amp at the edge of a breakup or are already cooking. The Chupacabra would be my personal choice for that reason
@lylecaine48333 ай бұрын
Both sound great but I think the Chupacabra wins. Although, with these pedal demos where certain players sound great no matter what pedal they are demoing like you and Mike Herman. That shit is in the hands.
@dancrowe78602 ай бұрын
Sounds like the El Hombre cuts more bass than the Chupacabra. Both sound great, though.
