On episode 4, while showing the two new syllable blocks, the second one (with the vowel in the middle) says that the first consonant should be on the top left. It may be a typo, but I don't know if many have noticed.

@@grim5113 Thanks for noticing that! Yes, it should simply say "Top." However in this case since it doesn't affect anything as there aren't any other "Top" spaces anyway, I'll leave it unless someone finds a mistake in that lesson which I could fix together with it.

As a native Hindi speaker, some of these pronounciations are really easy for me. Like the eu vowel(simple horizontal line), it sounds just the same as one of the vowels in Hindi. Thanks for the videos, Billy :))

This is so helpful! I casually learned to read 한글 a few years ago as a teen but never learned it "properly". The sound differences are so much easier to tell apart now! Just yesterday I watched 현우 산생님's video, the one where you visited him on your last day in Korea and I felt like I fried my brain. 😂. So I could "hear" the difference, for example when you said 영 and 용 but I couldn't hear the difference when I "said" it, but now I see that 오 is a somewhat more base sound than 어. So thank you very much for that Billy.

Hey Billy loving your classes so far making my pronunciations better and one more as an Indian I'm akso a native hindi speaker ofcourse you said don't romanize Korean sounds as they only create confusions plus we don't have the English alphabets that fit exactly the Korean pronunciations but I feel if I connect the hindi sounds we have in our language with the Korean sounds I feel better.. As for 어 we have ऑ for 우 we have उ And many more which make the same sounds.... thus it's easy to differentiate between Korean sounds...all thanks to you what a clear pronounciation you have!!!

As a Dane, some of these pronunciations that others have to practice more, I find extremely easy since they are almost pronounced the same way as letters in my language:) Like 어 is pronounced like å, 으 is pronounced like æ so it’s very easy to remember for me

If you are an Indian so it is really easy to learn this hangul what is consonant cause the pronunciation are same as our swar and vyanjan it was really easy but it is also confused because there are so many pronunciation and other type of work but some are similar to each other so this is why it is little bit confusing but if you will concentrate then it will be very easy and thank you for this series Billy ... it is super easy and it is also so helpful that is a good thing... Please take your time! The most important thing is that you're learning the material, and not just making your way through these videos. If you're practicing along the way, you'll be much better off by the time you finish, and will actually be able to use most of it when you're done :)

"ㅗ" sounds more like an actual "O" with rounded lips. If your lips are rounded like that, it'll make the "ㅗ" sound.

It will just take time. Don't try to fight it or stress yourself out about them. Once you start learning the language and grammar, and listening to more Korean, they'll come more naturally to you. In the beginning, there's not much you can do until you have enough experience hearing them and using them yourself.

The number is just the "official" count (which doesn't include double consonants or diphthongs), but if you know all of them in this course you've learned all of the ones you'll need to speak Korean :)

It might help to think of it as 리 + 요, just said quickly together, because originally that's what ㅛ is (just ㅣ + ㅗ).

The way I learned, the vowels in these two words are pronounce differently. In the word for pen 펜, it takes on the same sound as English. But the word for dog 개 the sound is similar to the a in "hay" but shorter like in "cat" if that makes sense. I've heard some of the vowels combined with W have no real distinction when pronounced. So many subtleties in Korean, some more important than others.

Originally they did have a slightly different sound, but now in Korean they're officially considered to be the same sound so it's no longer necessary to teach them as separate sounds.

14:36 It seems that 's' doesn't only turn into a 'sh' sound, but that for most of the pronunciation in the bottom row the 'y' sound disappears as well. Is that correct? And is that always the case? You want to avoid romanization for this reason, among many others. It's not going to be consistent since it doesn't match with English. It's best to listen with your ears and not try to equate it with the English alphabet.

It simply sounds the way it's written, but it will take time and practice to be able to make that sound quickly and accurately every time. Just make sure you're practicing what you're learning, and exposing yourself to plenty of Korean along the way.

No. Literally, they're similar but not the same. In this course you'll learn both of those forms. They're what's known as "Nominalization" forms and I also have other videos about that on my channel.

That's just the "official" number, but as you noticed there are also diphthongs (two vowels combined). The same thing happens with consonants. You don't have to worry about the "number" since it really doesn't matter. If you learn all of the ones I teach, you'll know all of the ones you'll need :D

ㄴ is not the same as an English "N," nor are any letters the same as English letters. You'll just need time and practice to help your ears adjust to the different way these sounds are made in Korean :)
