Billy Harper is well known and highly respected. Look at his beginnings to the present.Lee Morgan,Stanley Cowell,Art Blakey and so many more great had nothing but praise for Billy. He is definitely idolized.

@@albertbrown359 Perhaps he is indeed idolized, as he should be. But I think what David is tryin to say is that the general mainstream lack of appreciation for Harper in the jazz world. Which I believe to be very true. Sure, he played with everyone you mentioned, but his solo work seems to be somewhat slept on.

Billy Harper is one of the fiercest horn players out here ! FEARLESS Does not care what the norm is or what is popular he is playing for a purpose. He brings me to tears sometimes because I know he wants to reach God through his horn. Don’t take it that I’m religious freak or something he has said it himself. He writes and plays with a thing that people like Trane and McCoy and Elvin and Blakey were trying to do. He is pulling on the spiritual and trying to connect. I love his direction and I thank him for opening my spirit as a player. Billy is a warrior

Attended NTSU with Billy.. he was our Idol.. we used to listen to him in his practice room..the scales and power! The Fall Concerts were the living end.. great players.. Jim Riggs, Galen Jeter, John Monaghan, Tim Bell, Lou Marini... really miss those halcyon days of the 60's. Remember seeing the Dave Brubeck Qt. at NTSU with incredible Paul Desmond.. Both Dave and Paul signed my Downbeat magazine after the concert. Monk was on the cover.

You feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere...listening to this beautiful, almost eerie tune...Billy Harper has been in my CD collection for 35 years...so glad you posted this..hope others will hear it..like Mr. Thompson said, Harper is underrated..I believe it. But so very, very good...

Prolific composition. the amazing tenor sax of Mr harper. Is see one person went out of there way to express there dislike for this piece, They could'nt possibly know anything about music. My favorite B.H composition and my favorite tenor before Brandford.
