Brubeck came from a small town south of Sacramento, CA. He wrote a jazz mass "To Hope," and performed it in the cathedral in Sacramento. I had the great pleasure of singing in the chorus with him and his son's quartet at that time. It was a fabulous experience to sing with a master and in the cathedral as well. The sound of music in a cathedral is very special. This was many years ago now, but an experience I'll never forget! Judith

if it wasnt for the kind of data / information preservation the digital age and the internet has lavished us with, these old timers and their immense talent would have been lost to time. We may be growing up in a very different age, but we can count ourselves extremely lucky.

No, and your comment is high praise indeed. Paul Desmond plays the melody inside the melody, with deep soul and incredible feeling. A great, great artist with a very authentic, moving sound. Paul Desmond is always present tense.

Nobody even comes close. Way out ahead of the pack, as far as what you describe. I admire others (e.g., Coltrane), but what I hear and feel, Desmond has stuck to me like no other.

10:42 - Dave Brubeck’s solo in Take Five is probably the most amazing piano solo I’ve ever heard. Brubeck breaks free of the form, boldly shattering the audiences expectations. This solo was like nothing they had ever heard, it sounded incomparable to any of the solos from the albums. You hear everyone cheer as soon as the song begins, they all knew it, and Brubeck just flips it over entirely. The skill and chemistry of this ensemble is incredible.

Dave Brubeck!!! Wow!!! And this list of Jazz musicians. Did anyone Dave Brubeck got his start in jazz with General Patton in World War II? What a contribution Dave Brubeck made to jazz. What a pianist Dave Brubeck was. His son is also a great Jazz artist. (A very nice family man, and he did so many wonderful things to help out Afro-American Jazz musicians. Ended up here after re-visiting Donald Fagen's (Steely Dan) solo album 'New Frontier' and he mentions Brubeck in the title track. Watched the Take Five video and realized Fagen's playing and look later in life is definitely an extension of Dave. Real similarities in composition and components. Ok by me.

@@AMEER-114- no sir. I believe it is you who needs help? Has anyone but you inquired about the comment? I don’t believe so? Why do you care about a comment that refers to an actor from a television show from the 1950, 60,s ? I haven’t had time to watch again to see at what point I thought it was Chuck Conners. I have things to do in life. I make music for people when I can. I take care of a two year old a few days a week. I have a wife. A dog who requires her attention as she’s almost 15 years old. I take time for this as it can be done quickly with the voice text. Why are you so angry? Whatever the reason I hope you are free from it soon! All blessings and love to you.
