Perfect final performance! BJS was the real deal. More than any songwriter or performer, he expressed his tumultuous and amazing life in beautiful descriptions and combinations of words as prose. Hillbilly genius who lived it all his way and told us all about it in his own way. The time I saw him live was an otherworldly experience. His spirit grabbed every heart there and made us all laugh and cry at the same time. Thank you, Billy Joe, and thank you God for sharing him!

what a beautiful song. was not expecting the emotion this would bring to me. LYRICS: I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna cross that river I'm gonna catch tomorrowW now You're gonna wanna hold me Just like always told you You're gonna miss me when I'm gone Nobody here will ever find me But I will always be around Just like the songs leave behind me I'm gonna live forever noW You fathers and you mothers Be good to one another Please try to raise your children right Don't let the darkness take 'em Don't make 'em feel forsaken Just lead them safely to the light When this old world has blown us under And all the stars from fall this sky Remember someone really loves you We'll live forever you and I I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna cross that river I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

For 17 years I sought the Lord in earnest. Now at 46 he's taken over my life. The Lord does things in his time not ours. When he moves in you know it. There is no second guessing. I see things differently, I actually feel closer to people, even complete strangers, don't get me wrong I'm saved not stupid I ain't wondering down dark alleys hugging strangers. But I do find myself impulsively pulling random people aside and telling them I hope God blesses you and your family for the rest of y'all's days. Who knows that may be the saying that turns someones life around.

Billy Joe Shaver, I saw you in 2004 when you came on the country festival stage in Craponne sur Arzon, France on a Sunday afternoon, I really liked your performance which I found too short. There is no word to say the emotion I felt during this concert. From that moment on I followed your career on the internet. Thank you Billy Joe, your work stays with me. rest in peace Billy Joe.

Billy Joe Shaver is my Hero. He could say with ten words what any other songwriter would take twenty five to say. I had the honor to see him live 5 times and consider myself a better person for the experience. His faith was real and his love would fill a room when he sang his songs. His ability to connect with the audience was unmatched and unrivaled. I took my wife to see him for the first time and she was mad as hell at me for something, anyway. We seen the man circle around front of the venue to get in, back door was locked. We seen him pop out of an alley, I swear he never even touched the ground with them cowboy boots. I believe he walked two inches above the ground anyway. Back to the story, my wife said he looked like a cool old dude. I said he is "The Man" just wait till you hear him talk. So in we go, grab seats, lights go down out walks the band and Billy Joe. He starts to talk, like only a True Texan can, to set up the song he is going to sing first and my wife looks at me and makes a face like maybe she ain't so mad at me anymore. So, Billy Joe started to sing and my wife turns to me crying and actually Thanked me for bringing her to the show. I said, "I told you" He's "The Man" When he sang " When Fallen Angels Fly" my wife flat out lost it. Billy Joe was holding his arms out stretched like an eagle flying singing his beautiful lyrics. God Bless Billy Joe Shaver! and all who have heard his lyrics. The world is a better place for his having traveled through it. God! I'm smiling right now remembering him. I have personally Thanked Jeremy Woodall three seperate times at three seperate shows (twice at "The Ark" in Ann Arbor and once at "The Village Idiot" in Maumee for helping to take care of Billy Joe as they toured out on the road in that white stretch Dodge van with the God Bless John Wayne bumper sticker on the back. Just for the record, it is my opinion that if Waylon Jennings had decided to fight Billy Joe that night when Billy confronted him out for not honoring his word about recording Billy Joes songs like he said he would, that Billy Joe would have whooped him up pretty fierce. Now! Waylon, was a big boy but, Billy was mad as hell (his words) and in the right, plus a cowboy with cowboy toughness. Take Care and God Bless

You are so right! He was THE MAN! I loved him so much. Loved Waylon too. They don’t make’em like they used to. Rest well in Jesus’ arms , dear man. We do miss you, and we will always remember you!!

So glad to say I got to go see him before he died. It was only about 4 years ago but he was still a great showman and a hell of an entertainer. He was underated but that's the way he wanted it, I think, at least for the most part. I am 49 and didn't "re " discover him until about 10 or 15 years ago. I'd heard georgia on a fast train and seen the video in the mid 90's but never gave him much thought after that until later I'm so glad life didn't pass me by without finding his music. I highly recommend the song "restless wind" it is one of his best.
