For those who are familiar with Billy Joe Shaver’s music you will know that he is one of the most underrated artist in the world. A man who wrote music for Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson and even Elvis Presley. It’s sad and pathetic how people don’t even know who this music legend is.

Him and Jerry Jeff Walker were the only two people I’ve cried over losing. At 26 and forever stuck feeling out of place in an out of line generation, it gets more lonely when we lose folks like Billy. Proud to be Texan but blessed to be from waco where Billy lays.

I love the songs by Billy Joe Shaver. I have his poetry in my mind, forever. Never forget the first lines in Old 5 "I have spent a lifetime, making up my mind to be, more than the measure of what I thought others could see...". A masterpiece.

Sorry you did get the chance to see our hero live on stage. I was fortunate enough to see him 5 times in small venues. I swear his cowboy boots never actually touched the ground when he walked. They seemed to be about two inches above it. His story telling and Texas cowboy wit would melt even the coldest heart. His honesty, toughness and True Love of GOD flowed from him. I consider myself a better person for having seen him, talked to him, shook his hand. He was a gift for all of us, I believe he has saved lives with his lyrics and story. Get his autobiography it is amazing and wild. He could say with ten words everybody else needed to use 25 to say. Take Care and God Bless

Billy Joe was my hero. The greatest writer in history and a very great singer. I loved the powerful honky tonk sound he and his power house trio created. He could rock it oh make it mild as well. His song '"try and try again" helped me get though a very depressed time in my life. "Hard working man" was played at a friend's funeral. His songs covered many subjects that many can relate to. He was one of a kind. I saw him only once and never got to meet him yet l still felt he was my friend. My all time favorite song of his is "tagged ol' truck. A true classic, but l liked all of them. RIP my friend and hero. "You've crossed the river at last. "

One of a kind man. He couldn't catch a break but his music gave Waylon a huge break with Honky Tonk Heroes album. All but one song was written by BJS. RIP cowboy.

We were playing in a bar in Anniston Al one night when this guy walks in and started chatting with some friends. He was pretty drunk so we kinda figured he was talking shit when he said he was a guitar player. he asked to play but it was early in the night and as most players will admit...when someone asks to play you tend to disregard them or at least wait until after a set or two because we've all been there when you let someone up and it's pretty bad. Come to find out it was Billy Joe.

I have also heard a story about Billy Joe showing up at a bar in Anniston, raising hell. The Gentlemen's Quarter or something like that, it was back in the 70's. It was said the bouncer had to run him off. Anyway, just a story going round.
