Super post. Never tire of hearing it through the years, whether on the radio, cd or watching it on the Concert video.Billy Joel and Mr Thielemans knocked this out of the park. I still get goose bumps when I see the hand signal/eye contact, between the two, at song's end. I knew nothing of Toots' musical resume until THIS evening. What a Monster(in the good sense).A contestant from AMER HAS TALENT mentions Larry Adler and I find out he ain't chopped liver either. We've bn blessed with 2 Monsters!

Travelling around the south of France in my dad's Vauxhall Cavalier in July 1985 listening to Billy Joel live at Wembley on a cassette is my absolute quintessential childhood memory. Tears to the eyes. Thankyou for posting this. The whole gig captures Billy' voice at it's absolute peak IMHO, just like Sprinsteen' work 1983-89.

OMG! I saw this when I was a student at the Univ. of South Carolina walking through the Russell House student union in 1985, and I thought this was so beautiful that this inspired me to run out and buy a harmonica the next . I was and still am in awe of this! Thanks to "Toots" and Billy, I've been playing ever since!

Saw this video right around the time "Leave A Tender Moment" was a hit in the summer of 1984 on "Friday Night Videos" and "New York Hot Tracks", the latter a local music video show and when I saw this video I was floored. Billy Joel was always a great musician, but Toots Thielemans added so much to this song. When I saw it again on KZbin a couple of years ago I was again floored. RIP, Toots..

@Oystercatcher011 It's actually from An Innocent Man - it was the fifth single released - only hit 27 on the US charts (the other singles - Uptown Girl - Tell Her About it - An Innocent man - The Longest Time - Keepin the Faith - all hit the top 20. This Night was the only single not to chart from that album.) Still that boggles the mind - six of the ten singles from Innocent Man hit the charts - can we say Billy Joel was a hit machine?
@NickJay15 жыл бұрын
I had the full concert on video too but over time sadly the tape has 'moulded' beyond playback - wish they'd bought it out on DVD!! Anyway it was 1984 but I agree, a fabulous version of the song so thanks for uploading it. I've been looking for this for ages and it's the first time I've actually found it in a search. Amazing. :)

Lovely to see Billy in his prime. One of the few songsters who stuck with his early work and hasn't ever tortured us with his 'new work'. Gotta see him live! (Mr Astley has done OK at it but don't think his back catalogue was as large)? Toots played on Tender Moment, Midnight Cowboy and the Muppets probably three of my favourites and testament that he could make it sound haunting, happy or harmonious. RiP

I remember recording this concert off Radio 2 onto cassette tape (my how times have changed) and never thought it was commercially available. By the look and sound, I suspect you recorded the simultaneous BBC2 TV transmission. Never heard a Billy concert bettered since. I remember it included a career topping version of Goodnight Saigon. Happy Days. Thanks for posting.

@carsonboy130 - Hi, this song can certainly be classed as a Hit, as it entered the UK Chart on 23 June 1984, as a Double A Side with 'Goodnight Saigon'. The highest position was only No. 29 and it stayed in the chart for just 7 weeks. Info. from "Guiness British Hit Singles" :-) I've not looked at the song listings for Billy Joel hits albums and another respondent says it's on an album 'Essential..."
