I wasn't even a huge billy joel fan, hardly knew that so many songs i knew were by him. Bought this record for 3 bucks, loved every song on it, and have been listening to it for months almost daily. It was the luckiest find of my life. This record, and billy joel, are absolutely fantastic.

The Stranger is Billy's best album. No question about it. Billy Joel's favorite song that he wrote is on The Stranger.

After a lifetime of serial marriages, depression and substance abuse, though, I have to wonder if Billy has wised up since he wrote that little ditty.

This has been my motto for years and although, yes, I had "heard" the song a time or two in my 32 years of life, I had never really heard heard Billy Joel until a few weeks ago. I was immediately angry at the uncles that raised me on classic rock and roll. Never had they played me Billy Joel while explaining to me why he was one of the greats. Possibly even the GOAT. Needless to say, I've had my Billy Joel playlist on repeat for a month and a half. Lol.

@Billy Joel I know this comment didn't actually come from THE Billy Joel, but when I first saw the notification about the reply, I did get super excited. The extra cool part? It was my birthday! You're the best, Mr. Joel!

@@DoyleHargraves I meant nothing against your MIL. I'm just highlighting that Joel's "message" throughout the entire song is for people to ignore God, get drunk, fornicate, do drugs and otherwise just kick up your heels and have a "good time," b/c if you don't (i.e., like your MIL), you'll either die literally (while still "young"); or "die" from a lack of (so-called) "fun" in your life. The philosophy seems to have worked out real well so far for Joel, anyway. 🙂/s It's up to you (and whoever else listens to his music) to discern whether they think he is dispensing wise, true advice; or not. 😎
