AN INNOCENT MAN was a Billy Joel concept album and a tribute to Joel's adolescent years with Billy paying homage to doo-wop and soul music from the late 50's and early 60's. The album gave up at least 6 hit songs including Tell Her About It, Uptown Girl, Keeping The Faith, Leave a Tender Moment Alone and more. On Uptown Girl Joel mimics Frankie Valli of The Four Seasons If you can find Hey Girl please do. Billy's cover of that tune is fantastic.

Man, does his music put me back in high school. The 80's were so awesome for music. One time we drove from Wisconsin to Idaho and I brought Billy Joel's "Glass houses" album on 8 TRACK. Yes, 8 track. lol. One thing about 8 track is it sounds really good and it will play it over and over over. It will just flip and play again. About half way through the trip, my dad told me "sonny, if you don't turn that off, it's going out the window!". We laughed cause it was probably the 10th time the tape played already. Such good memories. RIP dad.

The title track "An Innocent Man" is also an amazing song. The other songs from this album I'd recommend is "This Night" "Tell Her About It" "Uptown Girl" and "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" The whole album is a no skip, but these songs just elevate my soul when I hear them. Billy Joel is one of those artists that created a huge catalogue of amazing songs. "Just the Way You Are" "She's Always a Woman" and "She's Got a Way" are some of the most beautiful serenades to a woman you'll ever hear.

Roy, one of his most underrated songs was "Only Human" from 1985. Had a video for it. His lyrics were always fantastic no matter if it was a movie song like "Easy Money". Billy's songs have 4-5 different sets of lyrics. It's impossible not to like his work.

They also cover "Bohemian Raphsody", "Imagine", "Sound of Silence", "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Amazing Grace" just to name a few. They are an acapella group (no instruments) and amazing harmonies

First time I heard of Billy Joel was his first hit, Piano Man, back in 73 or 74. That first album is fantastic and he continued to make great music over the next 8 albums (roughly). I was watching a video of Billy Joel just the other day, one I hadn't seen before, and even I was surprised at how good he really can be. Piano man is a catchy song but with deep lyrics about people who are basically not living the lives they wish they could live, including the piano man and those who come to the bar to hear piano man.

Not trying to be a dick here but Piano Man was actually Billy's second album. The first was called Cold Spring Harbor from 1971 and probably the two stand out songs are Everybody Loves You Now and She's Got A Way.

This was his musical homage to The Doo Wop Sound. This was from his Album An Innocent Man. In the 1950's alot of Male R & B Groups sang A Capella (without Instruments). They practiced in The Bathroom because of The acoustics and sang on Street Corners where the Street Light was their Spotlight. In the 1950's there were so many. The Cadlillacs, Coasters, Crests, Drifters, Flamingos, Penguins, Moonglows, Monotones, and that's just the tip of the Iceburg. Many of them got their start in Church then sang Secular but they would influence the next Generation most notably The Miracles, Temptations, & Four Tops. If you can check them out, they are amaizng.

Billy actually did all the vocals himself as well as the background percussive sounds. The only instruments were a bass guitar and a snare drum. EVERYTHING else is his voice.

A friend and I in high school had a couple of classes that we had to go to at the same time a couple of days a week, and we were known for singing this song in the halls to various girls that we knew as we passed by. Always different girls each day. After a couple of weeks people would wait in the halls to hear us and it was mentioned in the yearbook as an "event"! LOL
