In a past life I was a full time athlete. I had motorbike accident and did similar injuries, the time, physical and mental pain it took to come back was excruciating and relentless but I did it, I made it back to being an international athlete for my country. I think Billy is awesome and it is easy to see why he has so much respect from everyone. From an old has been, well done. This is an amazing series, about an amazing guy, doing amazing things. I'm sure Billy will never see my comment but I sincerely wish him many years of happiness, health and wealth. From a fan in the Mediterranean.

This episode is insanely inspiring. Discusses winning the title all while juggling his mums illness and then losing his mother. It has him returning to his family and how much that meant to him. Then leaving his family and going balls to the wall dedicated on his rehab and getting better. I’m recovering from a couple of surgeries atm and I keep returning to this episode. There’s something so heavy and emotional but as I said also inspiring, about this video.

After a motorcycle accident that broke my knee into 4 pieces, I had the hardest part of my life. Dr said I'd never surf again. I didn't walk for months and had really bad atrophy on the left leg. I was in rehab for my knee every day for 5 months. The physical therapy was hard, the emotional and psychological was even harder. Other than running, I'm back to my old life with a really loud knee. Stay strong Billy. My recovery took 18 months. Best of luck man!!!!

I love this series...so well done! I've been crying as I watch, envious I admit of the loving family life Billy has & his support system...such a rare gift. I had to stop surfing 7.5 years ago & have missed it every day, but I also miss just being able to walk a mile & not collapse in pain & fatigue afterward. I have 3 hernias(all need surgery), an arthritic hip/torn labrum(needs surgery), torn ACL(needs surgery), & I have a debilitating disease called MECFS that keeps me mostly immobile these days...I relate to the pain Billy was experiencing & I dream of having just my hernias fixed & then maybe my knee replaced one day, but now I'm too old and too fragile from MECFS to even dream of doing the required rehab to make surgery successful. So, why post this buzzkill comment here on such a stoked video series? Well, I have only one legacy left and that is to try to prevent others from possibly suffering a similar fate...I ended up not only unable to surf, but alone and homeless as a result of simply getting sick in the USA. If anyone stumbles across this, please take precautions to avoid COVID, upwards of 15% of people(even pro athletes) are not recovering and end up with MECFS(they are calling "post-viral syndrome" or "Long hauler"), but it is the same thing. I was at the top of the world, surfing daily, in love, planning to move to the Big Island, and I simply came down with a common virus at age 30, shingles and I haven't recovered 16 years later & I'm now disabled. I lost EVERYTHING because I wasn't believed & that is why I realize how lucky Billy is to have the support system & love around him(this is the greatest healer in life). Pro surfer Tyler Wright has recently overcome this same condition and was written up by ESPN(www.espn.com/espnw/story/_/id/31010434/how-world-champion-tyler-wright-came-back-crippling-virus-change-surfing-forever) Enjoy each "wave" and squeeze those friends & family like it is the last time...you never know when it can all change. My goal now is to simply bodysurf one more wave or feel the ocean before I die...Covid has made that less likely to happen, but I'm gonna try! 🤙🏽

This documentary represents such an important lesson for everyone, particularly ultra competitive people. The ultra competitive person, especially when healthy, like and expect almost immediate results when trying to accomplish something, but coming back from a serious injury, time is your friend, not your enemy. As frustrating and infuriating as it can be not getting those immediate results, there’s also that reward that only comes with the perseverance to overcome the pain related to rehab. It also puts you in a position for the rest of your life knowing that you can overcome the most difficult of obstacles. That was a brutal accident with catastrophic results and his recovery is awe inspiring.
