i remember that day, me a few other American high school friends had ditched and had gone to Dizin, OfCourse we could not get near them due to security but remember seeing him. I told Billy and Suzie a few years ago when this video was published. got to ski with Billy finally in 2012. great memories.

My Dad has skied with Billy the Kidd as well as many other OGs of skiing. He also met Suzy at our home mountain which hosted the Winter Olympics twice once in 1932&then again in 1980.

Sad day when the Shah left Iran, thanks to Jimmy Carter

You are absolutely correct! Carter betrayed the Shah and the Iranian people!!!

The Shah was a rich heal, sucking up to US power because he couldn't achieve popularity amongst his own people. He was a brute who made paradise for shelf and a few selects, while damning the rest of the population to an agrarian wasteland, where they fell into the loving hands, as is often the case where people are kept poor and backwards by despots, of the clerics.

Park City Ski Team did fundraisers by showing new ski movies. My first year on the team, the movie this segment came from was the premiere. I loved going to those movies in the fall and getting excited for the winder.

I swear skiing in Iran is hardly heard of. Knowing about it would make it seem so much more like a tourist destination.

Dizin,Darbandsar and shemshak are definitely my favorite places to ski at once a year,For about $20 per day and now night skiing in darbandsar and spend quality time in lavasan iran you can't beat it,It's very convenience and only a 30 minute drive from lavasan and under an hour from tehran,The only thing that needs to be done in dizin is to modernize the cabin lifts,Darbandsar has already done so and its great,Dizin is comparable to Big Bear mountain ski resort.

Yea, Jimmy Carter fixed that by toppling the Shah and bringing the Ayatollah out of exile, now look at us.

@@barrygoldkind99 Let me guess, you also think the moon landings never happened, 9/11 was an inside job, and are convinced that Trump's reelection was "stolen", otherwise he would have prevented Putin invading the Ukraine? 😁

@@Gottenhimfella Everyone can now see that you are a complete nut. I was alive for all of the events, if you are saying that Carter did not reinstall the Ayatollah and topple the Shah you are a nuttier nut than just a nut.

@@Gottenhimfella And P.S. Yes, 9/11 was an inside job, the Khalid Sheik Muhamad Ramsey Yousef gang along with Hussein and Bin Laden and very bad US Intel policies which hid intel between Agencies. Why would you reply about topics you are totally ignorant about?

@@barrygoldkind99 Your world view would raise quite a chuckle if it were viewed from afar, like another planet. As it is, it's not very funny at all. It's worrying enough that so many have very little of what used to be fairly usual faculties for detecting BS, but there seems to be an increasing number who actively thrive on it, and propagate it every spare moment, in a world where information (regardless of reliability) is virtually free.

I'm really curious what is up with that almost OCD turning?? It seems like the entire run is nothing but turn turn turn. I was 5 years old when this movie came out so I'm fascinated by the radical change in style that I see today from back then. Anyone have ideas on how we evolved from this to where we are today?
@opensourcecurrency6 жыл бұрын
They were showing off their expertise for the cameras. An intermediate can easily learn long radius turns-- especially now when all resort frontsides are cat-groomed every night and skis are lighter and shorter (with sidecut). But the bumps and the trees (and steep chutes) require short, quick turns with a narrow stance. Watch a current World Cup mogul or slalom race and you will see this is of course still the case. Fat powder skis have made it easier to handle speed, but "extreme terrain" was not generally available to the public in the 70's. Typically runs were crowded and ungroomed. (Kidd and Chaffee were both great racers (retired as of 1978) and great skiers, but not stunt daredevils- which is why they are still skiing today). Only experts can control speed in the bumps and steep trees, and this still requires "turn, turn, turn..."
@DavidSkis Жыл бұрын
"Today" (or even 10 years ago when you posted) turning is still necessary to manage speed and terrain. If you're not turning, you're not skiing. That would be called tobogganing.
@SAGHAJAR9 ай бұрын
This is a different style of skiing called Slalom, you come down the slopes at a reckless speed called slaloming in a winding path, still being practiced everywhere in Iran and Europe and at int’l events.

@69ali Unfortunately, it was us who let them ruin it. We never thought what would happen after throwing one out and bringing another in. We were dreaming of forming a democratic system like France, Germany or England. But dreams went to ashes because we under-estimated too many things.

Iran always ruined becouse of religion ,and itd becouse religion is closest thing to culture, everytime a new leader will be the king they start with cultural position and slowly slide their actions into their selfishness using their favorit religion as a tool, in ancient persia ,the conflict between manaism and zareostrianism coused a civil war and ended up with a march of Eskandians into the empire, same happened in sasanid empire when they were trying to establish a strong zareostrian regime and that also ended up with a civil war and finaly islam came in representing tgeir religion is fair and so, but now we know that 70% of islam came from zareostrianism, persia only defeats by religion. same shit happened also at 1970, the khumaini talked about his true faith of islam and how a muslim country should look like, as soon as he turned in he changed his regime to an other monarcy, we Iranians have a joke: "isllamic regime is a monarcy, the only difference is that the king has a sari instead of a crown on his head"
