Billy Showell's Water Colour Palette | Which Colours Does Billy Showell Use?

So let's talk about Billy Showell's watercolour palette!
She does have a set list of colours that she uses. She uses mostly Sennelier paints and does have a set out for sale of all the colours that she uses.
While I don't have this set I have found the colours that she uses from a couple of brands, mostly the Jackson's house brand which is made by Sennelier anyway.

You may want to double check Sennelier Yellow Deep (PY83/PY153) and Red Orange (PO43/PY83). The first one is a warm yellow while the other is orange. Your swatch showed the opposite.

Thanks for this video; I really do love seeing in-depth videos like this. You said, I believe, that Jackson's watercolours are from Sennelier. I know this has been conjectured quite a bit here on KZbin, but wonder if there is really a reliable source for this? I haven't been able to find one myself. Happy painting!

I recently got a sample palette from Billy Showell's paint set (Eve sent it to me) so I will be trying it in an upcoming video. Many of Billy's choices are more opaque or granulating than I would prefer. As you know, I also prefer to include secondary colours rather than split primaries (I can easily live without a firetruck red or ultramarine at all, and use a single yellow almost exclusively, but I do use a lot of greens, violets and oranges for mixing). However, this is probably because I paint a lot less flowers than Billy and many other botanical painters.

Hi Dan... the PR83 you have swatched here is nothing like the Sennelier PR83 Alizarin Crimson Lake 695 I have ..... mine is a beautiful (albeit fugitive) Pink ...... could yours be either the Sennelier PR209/PY83/PR179 Alizarin Crimson 689 or the Sennelier PR206 Permanent Alizarin Crimson Deep 699 , both of which are browner, particularly the 699 ? I do like the colours in Billy's set although I miss a good sap green and some earthy tones.

The wrapper says PR83 on however I know that sennelier and Jacksons have an issue with pigment and name labelling. I have also found this "PR83" to not fade yet in daylight. I don't think this is PR206 as it isn't red enough. But yes I do question whether or not the pigment info is correct on this one 😁

Well, someone already recommended you the true alizarin crimson shade within the sennelier line, but in my case I'd also recommend if you can, snatch the Rembrandts version. This and their ultramarine blue were my first artists quality paint tubes! The shade of AC is so enchanting...

Hi! How lightfast is the PY3 from Old Holland? I've been wanting to try the PY3 from Sennelier since Handprint.com lists it as one of the best options, but it's written so many years ago and perhaps other brands are great. Have you tried Senneliers, and if so, how come you prefer the Old Holland one? :)

It's very lightfast. I've recently got the PY3 from sennelier but not had a chance to try it. I find old hollands one very pigmented and last a long time. I find other brands PY3 too weak or too opaque. M Graham makes a good PY3 too.

It's very ironic but I'm not a fan of Ultramarines. I tolerate it and have it on my palette but I could never love this colour.
