A couple more: You can blend watercolor pencil with a paper stump before wetting it to get different color gradations. Also, instead of shaving the point you can use a small piece of sandpaper - different grits for different size pigment particles.

Nice demo. I didn't hear you explain that Derwent Inktense is INK pigment, and will stain the paper and cannot be lifted like watercolor pencils. Good for laying down a base layer that will not mix with subsequent layers after drying. I love Inktense and use them often.
@paintingandchocolate Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes you are right they are ink. In another video I lifted them after they dried and it worked, which was actually surprising and I wonder if it depends what paper they are used on or for how long they were dry for.

@BumblebeeFern : Derwent watercolour pencils aren't nearly as good as good as similarly priced w/c pencils - Caran D'ache Supracolor and Faber Castell's Albrecht Durer, and Staedler Aquarelle, I've been working with W/C pencils for years, and got quite excited when Derwent brought out the current set, and like many ArtTubers, was very disappointed, because they are just not in the same league. Even their original Derwent Signature w/c pencils are nicer than these (I had a full set of these, but most of them are now used up, and I can't replace them, as there's no crossover in colour names with Derwent). I do still use a couple of their colours which I can't get in the other sets, but otherwise, they are set aside in favour of what I already have. I've clicked a 'like' on your comment, so hopefully, you'll get to see this. 😊
@BumblebeeFern Жыл бұрын
@@MrsBarnabas thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out!! Luckily, I still have yet to order 😂 so I will definitely take a look at the brands you listed. I am just getting into watercolor pencils and only have a small set my mother gifted me so I wanted to invest in some that could really perform. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and give me other/better options! Sweet blessings to you!🤗🥰🐝
@MrsBarnabas Жыл бұрын
@@BumblebeeFern Hi again. You might like to buy a few of the Supracolor and Albrecht Durer open stock, to play with and see how they feel. I enjoy both and use them interchangeably. Try just picking out a few of your most-used ordinary pencil colours and work from there - the cool and warm primaries and some earth tones, plus a black and a white is a good place to begin, and will give you some good mixing choices, either with blending, layering or on some scrap watercolour paper. They don't blend in the same way when dry, as they are pigment based, not oil or wax, but they will blend well with light layering one colour over another. (I use mine as much as a dry medium as a wet one, because there's no 'shine' on them as there is with coloured pencils). This video's a great starting place - doing the examples along with Francoise will give you some good idea of how they work. Always use an ordinary watercolour soft brush to activate them, though, because water brushes tend to be too firm and lift off a lot of pigment. Also, add a couple of drops of glycerine to the water, to improve the dissolving and flow of the pencils' pigments. Your local pharmacy may supply a small bottle they'll make up for you, or look on the supermarket cooking shelves (may be more expensive). I tend to try to help out where I can, especially where watercolour pencils are concerned, because there isn't a great deal of help 'out there' here on ArtTube, or elsewhere for them. I am still picking up tips 25 years on, for that reason, and there are always new things to learn, whatever the medium, I think, and it's fun to pass them on! 😊
