A fine example of this style of music and guitar playing ala Doc Watson. I'm going to get ALL of those licks under my fingers. His tone will take much more work and is aided by the beautiful Martin Guitars OM Style Acoustic he plays here. Simply put, a Twentieth Century masterpiece made in the early 1930s I believe by the fine Luthiers at Martin Guitars USA. Get one while you can!
@Egg-noodles3 жыл бұрын
@@rockers2rockers616 I own a Taylor personally, and have played many a Martin in my time, and in my opinion the have a much richer, more full timbre than the Taylors. The lower action most Taylors have and the thin, ergonomic necks and deeper cutaways just make them easier to play for me. I absolutely love the Martins’ tones though, I’ve tried changing to a thicker gauge string, swapping to nylon, using finger picks, switching to just fingernails, everything I can think of to get that warm tones that Martins have while sticking with a Taylor, which from a playability standpoint just suits my style better. Sadly, nothing I try compares to a good ole Martin. If only there was something I could do to my Taylor to get that tone.

My very favorite version of this classic. I'm wowed by the disciplined voicing of the notes and chords and complete talent of these 2 prodigies. Thanks guys!

They aren't prodigies. They are masters.

I’m a huge fan of both these guys. Billy’s flat picking is always phenomenal. Love this version but take a listen to Ray Charles and Cleo Laine take on Porgy and Bess’ ‘Summertime’. It is truly the quintessential version of this masterful song.

I wish these two got together more frequently. Fire ensemble.

The tone on that Fender Marcus is playing is sublime (even though I'm a Gibson aficionado). And young Mr. Apostol makes everything sound like it comes from heaven.

I could've listened to that beginning jam session forever! "Soul" is truly a universal language.

Transcendent music: timeless, priceless. More valuable than any gold or material richness...God protect these transmitters of irreplaceable truth that rings like a bell to our soul.

It is an interesting bit of anthropology to observe that guitarists jamming can neither signal with their hands nor speak to each other, yet can still communicate with just head motion and eye direction. What a marvel we (and these particular) human beings are!

I've been listening to this classic blues tune for fifty years now. But still, once in awhile someone does this. And it almost feels like the first time. Sweet!! Thanks for sharing with us. JJ RIP. NFA

Best version of this song that I have ever heard. A good musician can just jam with anyone and make it sound awesome, and that's what these fellas do.
