I visited Lincoln about 4 years ago. It is truly an amazing place if you love old west history. The town is pretty much isolated and hasn't changed much, if at all, from the late 1800's. And to see that it is situated in a river valley with mountains rising up immediately on both sides of the road thru town, there was literally no room for the town to expand. For one low price you purchase a day pass for entry into all the buildings. I think it was around $10. It's cheap and well worth it. Thanks go out to the State of New Mexico for doing such an outstanding job of preserving history.

Thank you so much for the wonderful description of the town. My family and I plan on seeing this beautiful town. Imagine a town untouched by today's blight. Thanks again and will be seeing Lincoln soon.

The store is amazing, there are so many items that appear to be authentic goods sold in the early days of the store’s existence. I noticed in particular some original replacement wagon axles with a Studebaker name. I suppose these predated the Studebake automobile compay

I wonder how many times Billy escaped due to being wirey and small. He climbed up a chimney, worked hands out of handcuffs. Now I learn he fit under floor joists eating canned peaches while his hunters were stepping above inches from his person.

Isn't it funny that throughout all the murders, on both sides, the only name that is remembered is that of a boy. Too bad they are all just spreading the lies they have been told. Slandering the name of Billy. It would be awesome if, before people spoke of him, they actually read some of the series about Billy and who he really was growing up in Silver City with his Aunt and cousin Joseph. They would understand better that he didn't drink or dance or kill anyone who wasn't trying to kill him. He wasn't crazy nor did he travel like every one says he did.

My old friend is from there. A lot of family stories and hate between the 2 sides and to date both relatives now would say the other side was aggressor or problem. A very good history and historic area.

I don’t really know what is true or not anymore. I have read and watched about everything I could get my hands on regarding billy and the Lincoln County Wars, including the same for Sheriff Pat Garrett. People then were like people today, they lie, embellish, steal and kill for money and other reasons. Even the people of that period and Lincoln didn’t know the truth. All you can do is rely on facts and records from that time period. I do the same with the life of Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Doc and Wild West. What I have found was many stories were repeated and exaggerated to sell stories, similar to media and Hollywood today. And the characters themselves liked the fame, seeming to always share stories that would make them appear less guilty or shine. Same as today. I would encourage folks to research and look for truth if they really enjoy history. I have always been fascinated with the Old West. But as I became older, I wanted to know the facts instead of the legends. I don’t know how many men billy killed, but there are only a few on record that I know of, not 21 as reported. And I learned something today that I hadn’t heard, don’t know if it was true yet, but Billy allegedly only knew Tunstall for three months or so. Anyway, please share if anyone has any facts. I love true history. Thanks.
