I have to stick up for Billy. Almost all written accounts of his looks by people who knew him said he was fairly good looking, with even features, blue eyes, and slightly bucked teeth. The famous tintype was said to be a very poor picture of him. Enjoyed your video very much tho! Thank you.

Rusty, the story of Billy The Kid is really interesting. Apparently you were in a hurry. That poor guide had to jump back and forth in the story, you didn't get half of the story.

The tour guide was excellent, although I can't say the same thing about the tourist. He needed to let the guide do his job, and not try to do it for him.

So, Billy the Kidd had multiple escapes locked up. Considering the cost of food and fuel these days and the cost of housing, staying locked up with a roof over my head and meals provided would tempt me to stay a little while!

In a nutshell Henry McCarty, his mother, and maybe a brother/cousin showed up in Silver City indirectly from NYC when he was about 13. The mother married a dead beat miner and supported the family doing laundry and running a boarding house. At some point the husband leaves and she dies from tuberculosis, the boys are farmed out to friends and eventually go their separate ways. The now named Billy falls in with the wrong crowd and commits petty crimes. Young Billy probably did kill men who may or may not have deserved it. He was now a man (boy) on the run and was befriended by an entrepreneur from England named Tunstall who was later murderer by a competitor. Billy and friends took revenge on the killers and vice versa that became part of what we call the Lincoln County War. Billy was eventually captured. While awaiting trial he killed two jailers and escaped. Pat Garrett a sheriff and maybe a friend to Billy eventually tracked him down at a girl friends house and the rest is history!!! Some have suggested Billys death was staged , Garrett got the credit for killing him and Billy disappears into the wild young state of Texas! Of course their are many versions of this story! Billys biological father is unknown and is thought to have died sometime before the family arrival in Silver City

My buddy and I took a tour there in 1996. It was one of THE BEST guided tours that I've ever done!! The tour guide we had was awesome!! With the information he gave us, it seemed like he did pain-staking research. It would tell about the way a building sat, ex. the McSween house and where the pit was that they made to keep prisoners. It was great!!!
