*THIS* is the music we heard in pubs all around Australia almost EVERY night of the week in the late 60's and early 70's . . *LOUD!!!*. . Raw and exciting!' Pretty much EVERY suburb, country town and city had a live pub venue that was hot, loud and sweaty with music like this. . It's no wonder AC/DC were born from this crucible . . If your ears weren't ringing for a day or two after you heard "Thorpie and the Aztecs" play, you must have been standing out in the car park!

No one does a guitar band like the Aussies, ACDC , Angels, Rose Tattoo, Lobby Lloyd, Kevin Borich ( NZ),to some extent Midnight Oil, Chris Cheney and many more . The pub rock scene from 1970 for 20 years was just going OFFFFF!!!!!!!!

Songs like this remind you that just amping up doesn't = heavy. It's attitude and drive and conviction. For instance Helmet's Meantime is one of the heaviest albums I've ever heard bc of those factors.

I subscribed to your channel for the Queen reactions, but loving you dive into our homegrown Aussie music. Thanks mate. Oh, and I think this might have been inspired by English bands like Black Sabbath, Uriah Heap and early Deep Purple... I think ..

Thorpie was doing this stuff before we ever heard about those bands...... Deep Purple being the first we got here in Oz, then Sabbath and then Led Zepplin with the release of Whole Lotta Love from their 2nd album. Only Iron Butterfly might have been known here before Thorpie discovered blues and rock. It was the classically trained pianist and blues guitar legend , Lobby Lloyd, who inspired Thorpie to move away from POP ( the Mersey Sound, etc ) and play real blues inspired rock as loud as possible.

That's pretty much typical guitar for a lot of Aussie bands from late 60's through to late 70's and early 80's.

I knew Billy from "Birdland" in Brisbane in the early 60's. The young boy from Longreach outback Queensland. Birdland was a Sound Lounge. They all had Live Bands in those days.

Thorpie the Wild Blues / Rock superstar was very different to the original child singer loved by Brisbane’s gangsters who became Australia’s No 1 POP idol in the early 1960’s, before being reborn as a wild blues and loud rock force of nature.
