@@EdwardHoraceChristensen I found my 13th reason why: to become a actress
@videohistory72210 ай бұрын
Another big thing: Joe was in the zone when he was auditioning, but not when he was actually performing. He was on point, he didn't miss a single note but he still wasn't actually enjoying himself.
@danaportnoy915310 ай бұрын
This is an interesting observation. I know for myself as an artist, I experience enjoying a performance and being “in the zone” as two different things. I can be enjoying myself while performing, but also be not quite as tied to myself, and how the music feels to embody, if that makes sense? Like, if I’m in the zone, it really does feel “out of body” in the sense that every ounce of my focus is on the sensation of the music. That’s why it’s so jarring to be pulled out of the zone and why someone like that actress might forget where they were in the script entirely, because suddenly your senses are reminded of everything in the world around you again, all at once. Versus performing while not in the zone, it still is enjoyable, and the result of my life’s work, and as you pointed out, it can even go perfectly, but that meditative “out of body” experience isn’t there because something is pulling my focus. Even in a subconscious way. Sometimes it’s someone coughing in the audience, sometimes it’s being really hungry. Not every performance can be one that’s in the zone. But whether they’re in the zone or not, the joy of accomplishment, the joy of feeling the music so deeply in your body, goes away. The audience leaves, the stage closes, life goes on. That’s why you can’t base your life around these benchmarks. There’s so much more to be present for and to live for. All the time.
@maloneaqua10 ай бұрын
So many gems in this movie but my favorite part is the story about the young fish - he is looking for "the ocean" because the idea of the ocean sounds so grand. But when you're actually in the ocean.... it's just water. Joe thinks he's not living his dream but what he claims to be in love with is playing music. As a music teacher, he does play music - every, single day. Yet he's unfulfilled because "middle school music teacher" doesn't sound grand. But it is literally his dream - he is a professioinal, full-time musician. He just doesn't appreciate it.

22 couldnt find a spark as a soul because her spark is life itself, the beauty the sounds the food the smells, she didnt have a spark before because she had never experienced being alive
@billbill609410 ай бұрын
I don't think I agree with that interpretation because the appreciation for life has nothing to do with your passions or proclivities, as seen by Joe when he has all this passion and can't enjoy what he already has. She found her spark when she gave up being so opposed to existing because she found just existing isn't something to fight. They reflect that in that convo "maybe my spark could be walking, I'm really good at walking" "that's not really a spark 22, that's just regular old living." It's reflected when we see a "sad" memory of Joe eating pie alone after a rejection was actually a happy memory of him enjoying a really good slice of pie. We don't need to know what her spark is, that doesn't matter really because the same spark that can put you in the zone can entrap you. It's about how you view life outside of it, how you give your own life meaning. So it doesn't matter what traits 22 picked up while she was alive, just being alive made her receptive. For all we know she may want to cook, cut hair, take care of animals, become a tailor, comedian, teacher, musician, or several other things she does. But the meaning is in the journey instead of the goal.

@billbill609410 ай бұрын
@@virtualmc9139 What I said was living is not her spark, just all creatures should appreciate living regardless of the purpose they give themselves. If living itself was her interest, it betrays even people swamped down by their interest or their inability to appreciate life by being overly goal oriented can eventually change. Their passions or their goals don't need to for their perception to shift. I'm saying "sparks" and enjoyment of life were set up to be two different things, one of which can hamper the other, which is why I do not agree with the op's comment. I'm saying 22 worked backwards from enjoying life _first_ to then not being so standoffish to _let_ a random passion hit her. It's essentially what children can do that we adults struggle to.
@videohistory72210 ай бұрын
Neat little thing you could miss: When Joe shows 22 his memories, there's one where he's sitting in a diner with a piece of pie, looking dejected, making you think it's a sad memory. But when Joe's at the piano and we see that montage of memories, we see the diner scene again, and we find out it was actually a happy memory, despite not starting out so great. It's like the hockey memory in Inside Out. It started off sad, but because of her friends and the team, it turned happy.

I heard this quote from the Ghost and Molly Mcgee "Maya Angelou once said: What is a fear of living? It’s being preeminently afraid of dying. It is not doing what you came here to do, out of timidity and spinelessness. The antidote is to take full responsibility for yourself - for the time you take up and the space you occupy. If you don’t know what you’re here to do, then just do some good."

I was just in awe at the artistry behind the story and thought “I need to see this again.” Since then I’ve watched it probably 3 or 4 times, and I take something different away from it each time. So many messages, and each character and plot point focusing on a different life reflection. You might wanna look online in your area, Pixar is doing a limited time release of this in theaters right now. The date is technically passed, but it’s sticking around in some places. That's what happens when you don't pay attention, but then again, we're not going to have it in our control, when it's times up its times up. Sure, it might seem unfair but that's not for us to decide all we have is to enjoy the time that is given to us. Life strikes when we least expect it to. But this movie truly is something it truly makes you think and look at life differently.

The Princess and thw Frog takes both main characters, people of color, and turn them into frogs The Emperors New Groove turns a person of color into an animal... Again.
