Great content. I was freshwater fishing most of my life, fell in love with saltwater fishing. I'm in Southern California so pier fishing was the start...not thrilled with pier fishing so I moved to surf fishing...addicted now. Where I'm at, limited to perch and halibut for the most part so I moved on now to Leopard Sharks, Shovelnose and Rays. Your vids are helping me with the casting...my biggest problem now is sinkers. If I chunk an 8 oz pyramid sinker out 75 meters, it will move laterally about 50-75 meters in 15-20 minutes. Sputniks grapple massive kelp we have which sucks so I've ordered some Hatteras sinkers. Couple of tips there have helped me Billy. I used to put too much leader on the reel and did indeed end up with braid wrapped around the rod after some casts. Luckily no snap-offs. Keep hands high is another good point as it adds more leverage to the cast enabling a further throw with the same effort. The only issue with off the ground casting is the tackle needed. When using a regular clipped down rig to the lead or Gemini (Other brands are available haha) rig clip, the hook will fall out. To remedy this you have to use a more expensive clip method such as a Gemini Splash Down.

Hi Billy, i came back to this video because i have a question if you dont mind :) if you do just tell me to bugger off 🤣do you see any issues with using a Braid leader onto a mono main line? Everyone uses Mono to Mono but i cant see why Braid wouldnt be better do you? This is for both Multiplier and fixed spool reels
@Billyfishing_watch8 күн бұрын
Hi bud. The benefits gained from doing what you suggest, are minimal! The main reason for using a braid leader is. To cut down and wind knots, when using fixed spool reels! The manor filament leader travels through the guides more slowly, and causes knots! By proxy will also help with bite detection. With multipliers! It cuts down on birds nests when pendulum casting! And in both cases it loads the rod more quickly. What kind of reel are you using?
@Rogalandfishingadventure8 күн бұрын

Hi Billy, all good points. Obviously OTG won't work for any clipped down rigs but I need a Mr Sniffles to practice my casting. I do use 40lb braid with 60lb mono with an FG knot and no problems with line crack off. I do sometimes see the mono slowing down the cast causing a few main line issues from time to time. Will certainly look at braid but does the braid shock leader get easily damaged on rocks, barnacles etc? I know many who use tapered mono with braid too. What knots would you recommend from main line to leader and leader to clip? Great video 👍 tight lines and have a good Christmas and New year.
@Billyfishing_watch2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, is your reel hi or low on the rod, I have my own leader knot, I think the fg is too big, and hard to tie in bad weather. I have no problems with the rocks, with the 4 strand leader . For the rig link , I use a Palamar knot👍

I haven’t watch all your videos so you may have addressed this. You are right handed but you put your left hand at the reel and right hand above even though there is a lot of rod below the reel. I guess you have a really long rod and want to space your hands pretty far apart. I have Penn Carnage III 11’ rod with a Penn Spinfisher 6500 reel. If I do it your way I’ll run out of rod length. Cheers from the Texas Gulf Coast

Hi TX. Yes, that rod is 15 ft long. But that not the all of the story. I will make a video about it soon. But everything else in the video, you can apply why to your fishing. Thanks Brother 👍😁

Would 40lb 4 strand be much worse than 8 bud?
@Billyfishing_watch2 жыл бұрын
4strand is cheaper, but 8 strand casts much better on that type of spool. But if you use a long cast spool, you could use 10 or 15lb 4 strand. Hope this helps out 👍👌

@faisalrafique6107 The UK left the EU two years back, I had problems get gear too. Try southside angling. If you can't find it contact me on Instagram or messenger. I know they used to ship to Africa.
