Had a few casts on the beach at low tide today after a short fishing session. First time trying the pendulum cast and I was shocked at how easy it was. I was using a 16ft rod with fixed spool and braid which I normally overhead thump. I paced out my casts on the sand to get an idea of the difference between casts and I added approx 28 meters extra distance compared to my overhead thump casts! Chuffed!

Hi Billy, your video is the first one I've watched on how to Pendulum Cast. I just ordered a 3 piece Heavy 13ft Demo Rod, cost me nothing but my time. When It gets here I plan on using it to learn how to Pendulum Cast, if I BREAK IT by accident it won't hurt as much. ROFL 😇😁 I was an Independent Professional Golfer for over 4 decades. I use to teach from time to time and I found that Baseball Players and Hockey Players were the easiest to teach how to SWING since they already had muscle memory for the main movements. The Baseball Player just had to transition to a more Vertical Plane from the Horizontal Swing plane. Feet, Knees, Hips, Shoulders, Arms and Hand/Wrist movement/release all remained very much the same. Watching you cast reminds me of the "Pause At Top" Backswing Method I've used with players. It looks like the Spread Hands on the Rod will be very familiar to a Hockey Player watching your video to learn this. For myself, it looks like just using a more Horizontal Swing Plane with the "Pause At The Top" (To FEEL The LOAD before beginning the Down/Forward Swing) once I've gotten the "Pendulum Rock" mastered for the "Pre-Swing" (Almost like the "One Piece" Takeaway in Golf where a FIRST move of a Forward Press of the hands is what initiates the takeaway/backswing.) will be a good starting point. Even now as an Old Codger I can get on my Knees with a Driver and bang a ball out to almost 250 yards letting the SHAFT load properly at the Transition and do most of the work, which of course being on your knees makes the swing plane much more horizontal. All of that BLATHERING text above is in case Viewers who've played Baseball and Hockey watch your video and then read these comments. Maybe they also can use some of their already practiced/ingrained movements to help them use this Style of Casting. Thanks again Billy, I'm from Florida in the U.S.A. and I Hit the Like, Subbed, and RANG THE BELL!! 🤠😎

Hi there. I often fail to see where did the lead go, so it's difficult to know if I did better or worse when casting. I see you used some kind of lead decoration that makes the lead quite visible. Did you make it yourself or is it some standar stuff you can buy? I never saw something like that... Do you normally use it when fishing or you used it just for making the video? Thanks!
@Billyfishing_watch2 жыл бұрын
Hi Javier. I did make it my self, it is like the golf ball with the holes in it, called a wiffle ball. Golfers use it for practicing their swing, I use it to practice casting because it does not fly as far. But if you just need to see how far you have cast. Then what you need is a death counter for your rod. Just cast out, connect the depth counter and wind in and when you see the measurements, you will know whether or not you cast further. hope this is helpful 👍😁

I thought fly fishing was the hardest cast to learn🤔 Now I’m not so sure watching pendulum casting. You have mastered beach fishing Billy👍 If you fall out of love with sea fishing or just feel stale , try fly fishing. I coursed fished from the age of 7 into my 30s. Then I was introduced 😊to fly fishing and it was like I had never fished in my life. Totally different discipline. On natural waters fly fishing you really have to be in tune with the environment, the weather, time of year, and what fly life is hatching off , and learning to cast is something else. I’m learning to beach fish now as a change is as good as a rest👍

This is saved. I am just getting back into surf casting after many years . Multiplying reels are not normally used for surf casting here in NZ . I know they have far more ability to both cast and fight fish. You tech an uncommon amount of sense. The economy of your action from 8:00 is a scene to motivate even the most inexperienced caster to give it a go.

Do y'all think I can manage to do this with a 7ft rod? Im going for sturgeon and in trying to maximize casting distance with my current setup. I understand that a longer rod would get me more distance but at this time alls I got is a 7ft surf rod with a baitcaster. Gonna attempt this style of cast with 4 oz and see if I can break 100yards. My real goal is 150 yards but I used to play disc golf and that's a long poke for a fishing rod in my opinion

It's the one cast I've always struggled with. I use a century Kompressor SS and can really I can feel the power it generates, I tend to rush the twist and cast. Because of that it feels unsafe and I tend to avoid the method. More practice required. Would you recommend starting with a smaller weight to perfect the technique?
@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. If it's stiff rod, more weight is a he way to go. I own the eliminator E1000, I like to not less than 7oz with a bait, and than it just right. Thanks Brother 👍😁

I am a South African and I cast like that... without knowing it's called that. Maybe like accents, to us it is just a cast... or in my accent, a caust. I am going to try your pendulum method next time I'm at the water's edge though.
@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
Hi Ross. Just a word of warning, the pendulum cast does not work well with three-piece rods. And might possibly break it. I have three South African rods, and they are designed to throw big baits with minimum effort. If you are throwing a large shark bait, I don't think you will be able to pendulum cast anyway. Thanks Brother 😁👌
@rossallchorn5746 Жыл бұрын
yeah, no stress. I'm an edibles angler, so at most it'd be a medium sized blob of squid and fishy bait cottoned onto a dingle dangle, along with a 6oz sinker hung off the bottom.

What good reel for pendulum cast bro?
@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
Hi bud. You can use a fixed spool reel or a multiplier reel it doesn't matter. The important thing is is to use a rod with two pieces not three 3, because a 3-piece rod might break, because it twists when you're casting. I have made a video on how to get started with a multiplier follow the link, thank you brother 👍😁

Does using a mag reel help with birdsnests?
@Billyfishing_watch2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, because you can set the magnets for what you need. For instance, if you're a beginner you can leave the magnets on full so you don't get over runs at the start of the cast👍😁

Could I do this with a surf rod or would I break it? This would help me cast bait further than ever.
@Billyfishing_watch3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, yes and no , it depends on the style of surf rod you use. If you use a continental style it's best not , that style of rod is best for ground casting. I have a vid on that style to, it's called cast tips for surf rods, just flow the link, but if you can slide the reel seat down the to the but of the rod you are good. Thanks Alex hope it helps 👍😁

I tried to do this today with many failures, I understand some parts of the concept, except the casting part. Saw another vid where when the guy casts, he tries to have his handle pointed up like he's going to throw a javelin then does the punch push motion with the right hand and left hand respectively. Problem is, I don't know if there's enough time to set up that position before casting. several of my throws have been hitting right in front of me, which is really bad for the line as it creates unnecessary stress and thus increases the likely hood of snapping (which happened twice or three times in a single day). So i'm wondering how do you follow up the cast after the pendulum has swung back enough? Is it more sideway of a cast or an overhead where you try to let go of the line at the 12 o clock or at the latest the 11:30 position?
@Billyfishing_watch Жыл бұрын
