@@Billyfishing_watch Hey man, I have no clue who exactly came up with it haha, its been a technique used here since the 60s if im not mistaken, learned it from my old man and grandad.

@Billyfishing_watch South African rock & surf fisherman were using the slide technique from the 60's & 70's. Problem with it was the fish could swim up and down the line at its peril and you had to keep shaking the line to keep the live bait out. Often you had a pick up and the bait was no where near the end of the line and it was difficult to set the hooks on a run. This was a clip on slide system and was free running, The Non Return Slide example you display in your video was a modified improvement that became very popular in the early 80's

@@Billyfishing_watch so I'm in Southern California, if I want mackerel and not on a boat, it's not exactly easy. I can buy Frozen mackerel bait from a bait store but it almost instantly falls apart. Your mackerel appears frozen solid...yes? If so, should I simply buy a mackerel from our local Asian fish market, freeze that and head out while it's still frozen? Because only times I've seen mackerel hold up is fresh. Thanks!

Thanks Nige, yes it can, but with something about 20cm or more,so it can pull the slid, so you just let the fish swim it out, no shaking the rod, I think you could do it with a small fish like a dead bait👍😁
